Mine was an unusual stay for I was relegated, in my tent, to a promontory opposite the hostel. By my own choosing I might add, for much as I should have loved stay in the hostel itself I am the most anti-social of sleepers and could not have put the other occupants of the dormitory through what would have been...

I'd recommend a visit to loch ossian youth hostel to anyone wishing to experience the Scottish wilderness without having to "rough it" too much. It is in a gorgeous yet isolated position, and you're guaranteed a warm welcome from Jan, the warden. The hostel is small and basic, but is clean, warm, welcoming, and has everything you need.

Our stay at Loch Ossian hostel stands out against strong competition from a wonderful week spent on Rannoch moor and Lochaber this spring. The hostel is basic but the location spectacular. We watched herons tend their nest on the island just across the water before heading to the Corrour Station House for a very satisfying meal. After a long couple...

Ideal overnight stop for hill walking in the remote Rannoch Moor. Possible to get an early morning start (5am) to make the most of some of the longer walks around loch ossian and ben alder area. Excellent location and facilities more than adequate.

Stayed for one night at the end of April. The warden was friendly and helpful, and was able to provide us with lots of information about the area and answer our questions. We arrived early, before the hostel reopened for the day, but due to the poor weather (it was snowing), the warden let us in so we could warm...

I have just spent two nights there with my son (age 9). We both really enjoyed it although the lack of showers was challenging! Also the lack of potable water made life harder (I drank it with no ill effect). The welcome was great, and the views spectacular. My son walked his first Monroe and was really pleased with himself....

Stunning location where you can leave the hassels of everyday life behind. Helpful and welcoming staff, cosy atmosphere created by log burner. Lack of showers and plumbed toilet is a small price to pay for such a great place.

Stayed mid November. Had great weather. Scenery stunning. Got off the sleeper train and you think you could be in the Andes, NZ etc Scotland at its best. Fiona showed great hospitality / welcome. Great place to cleanse the soul / hassle and get fit.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Loch Ossian Youth Hostel is a small, homely eco youth hostel, situated on the banks of Loch Ossian with exquisite views. Our eco hostel has a fully equipped self-catering kitchen but no fridge. Perishables can be kept cool in the north facing washrooms or in the loch! Drying is available on two overhead racks and boot stands by the fire. Although there are no showers, the wash rooms have hot water and towels are available for hire or purchase. Loch Ossian has a small shop with 'Beyond the Beaten Track' ready meals, a range of snacking essentials, postcards and sundries, such as midge repellent! At Loch Ossian Youth Hostel the staff are very proud of the eco-hostel status. Electricity is provided by a wind turbine, composting toilets are used and a reed bed is used to soak away for grey water. Wi-Fi during your stay: We do our best to deliver a free Wi-Fi service but apologise that connectivity, particularly in our rural locations, can be intermittent due to the level of our current broadband provision along with high usage when the youth hostel is busy. Please be assured we are endeavouring to improve where we can. We thank you for your patience and understanding. ... more   less
