We stayed here as part of the “Eat, Sleep, Retreat” package. The room was beautiful and clean, the chocolate covered strawberries were delicious and the glasses of Prosecco were a lovely touch. Dinner in the evening was also delicious with plenty of options.

Our spa treatments were lovely and relaxing, however the reason I’m only giving 3 stars is that I feel the Spa’s “Covid-19 procedures” let the experience down. You have to book a two hour slot in the pool which seemed like a great idea, but the pool area was actually packed when we went in. There was only one lounger available (there were three of us) which one of the staff members told us we could use, however this was less than 1m away from a stranger and we didn’t feel comfortable being so close to somebody we don’t know. Luckily some people left so we were able to sit together, but there was no cleaning or wiping down of the lounger between uses or facilities to do it yourself. Other people’s cups were left at the poolside for the whole 2 hours we were in there. We felt awful for a couple who walked in after us as there wasn’t a single lounger or chair available to them. A family of four had to share one lounger between them.

Are people expected to put their towels and robes on the wet floor? It was really disappointing, if you have to book a time slot for the spa due to Covid-19 you’d at least expect there to be enough loungers for the people booked in. I think it would be good if people are booked in and assigned a specific lounger which is cleaned between each usage. There were also multiple households in the hot tub and sauna/steam room (which were advertised as being closed on the website due to Covid-19) and the numbers weren’t being policed by staff at all.

Overall, the hotel stay was lovely and the staff were so welcoming and accommodating. It was just a shame that the spa has really let Hatherley Manor down. We didn’t feel very safe in the pool so for that reason won’t be returning, at least not until the pandemic is well and truly out of sight!

I Stayed at Hatherley Manor on the 23rd September in the most beautiful room (the Swallows) I had such a lovely stay straight from the moment of check in. Really helpful reception staff who explained everything, I booked a time for dinner in the restaurant and they offered room service breakfast at no extra charge because of the current times we are in which makes you feel so at ease, I got to the room it was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed. I booked a 2 hour slot in the spa, I have been to some hotels and been disappointed with the spa facilities this was outstanding and all looked brand new pool, jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, hot tiled beds to relax on, my partner and I loved it they only let a certain amount of people in at one time to ensure social distance we were so relaxed. Then evening meal in the restaurant again amazing food and attentive staff!! I will definitely be back. Well worth a visit I’m sure you won’t be disappointed 5*****

I have just returned from an overnight break. I booked the “Rural Retreat” package online in March in time for when Covid restrictions were lifted this week. My friend and I were not disappointed. I received several welcoming emails prior to my arrival and updated information regarding Covid Guidelines.
We felt very welcome and safe at Hatherley Manor. Our room was on the ground floor overlooking fields at the back of the building, very near to the Spa and Restaurant. We were given a very warm welcome at reception and directed to our room. Chocolate dipped strawberries were ready and waiting on the bed and we enjoyed a glass of Prosecco outside the front of the hotel sitting in the sunshine. We had a luxurious neck, back and shoulder massage followed by a facial. Spa staff were very accommodating and wore correct P.P.E. during our treatments. Evening dinner in the Dewinton Restaurant was superb. Despite restrictions the hotel surroundings were atmospheric and subtle but effective signs were in place regarding social distancing. Our room was very clean and comfortable. Paper cups were used in place of glasses and we were advised to put wet towels outside for replacement as the room would not be cleaned until after our departure.
Overall I was very impressed with the hotel and its adaptation to the Covid restrictions. I would highly recommend the afternoon tea and will definitely be returning. Thank you for having us.

We booked a dinner, bed, breakfast and spa day via spabreaks.com.
We stayed in an executive double which was nice and clean, but we could hear absolutely everything in the corridors outside (other guests talking, slamming doors etc) and rooms near to us. If I’m being picky, the decorative cushions on the bed were really tatty, almost threadbare, probably would have been best to leave them off altogether.
The grounds are beautiful and we had lunch outside, the service for lunch was particularly good (17th July apx. 3PM, the young lady couldn’t do enough for us) and the food was lovely too.
The food at dinner was also good, everything was tasty but it felt rushed with no breaks at all between courses and were asked if we were ready to order three times before we were ready. We were also given the wrong menu so had to change our order.
Breakfast was a real disappointment. We had room service and we were missing things from our tray e.g. butter for toast, spoons for cereal, missing pastries and the cooked breakfast itself looked as if it has been sat under the pass for a long time including our poached eggs which ended up more like hard boiled. I did mention this at check out and the £5 tray charge was removed from our bill as a gesture of good will.
When we checked out our bill was completely wrong, with our dinner allowance and complimentary drinks not being accounted for which was rectified.
The spa is modern with good facilities, we both had ‘back to your best’ treatments which were great. The ladies changing rooms could have done with a bit of TLC cleaning wise as by 1PM there was lots of hair and other debris on the floor.
We had a nice stay overall, but there are certainly areas that could do with improvement.

The spa was lovely, new building, very clean. Really nice outside space to relax in. Nice products in shower area in changing rooms. One of the best family friendly spas that I’ve been to.
Staff at spa reception were mediocre. I feel like their role was more security guard/ rule enforcer rather than guest experience.

The hotel in general is very run down. The dining room for example is dark and dingy and not nice place to spend anytime.
The room we had was pretty awful. It was above the kitchen and smelt like food all the time. We couldn’t open the window in August due to the noise and smell from the kitchen. The room was so hot with no AC or anyway to cool it down. The kitchen staff (I assume) started at 4amish every morning so there was noise from the kitchen from then onwards.
The room was in need of redecoration. The blinds were filthy. Carpet needed a clean. Paint flaking off walls and woodwork etc.
Bed wasn’t great- no mattress toppers, cheap duvet and pillows etc.
1 x one-use cheap shampoo and 1x one-use shower gel left in the room for 3 people for 3 days. We had our showers in spa area as products were better and showers were cleaner/ newer/ better. The rooms just weren’t consistent with the level of the spa.
It was liveable but just not very comfortable.

Food was ok but nothing to write home about. Service was ok providing the dining room wasn’t too busy. As soon as there were more than a couple of tables occupied the staff were under pressure and wait times were long, drink orders were forgotten etc.

It’s such a shame as this could be such a great place but they need to invest in the rooms and internal building and maybe some staff training. There seemed to be enough staff but not sure they were all pulling in the same direction.
We’ve stayed in lots of similar UK hotels (family friendly, spa, countryside, leisure hotels) in similar price Brackets and there are other places doing this much, much better than Hatherley manor are.

I’m reluctant to write this review but feel the shiny impressive website is such a long way from the actual reality that it’s only fair for anyone considering staying here.

Before departure we reserved our next visit. We had a most enjoyable experience and the points we make should not detract for our opinion that this is an excellent place to spend a couple of days relaxation, etc. Things are a bit different presently because of C-19. However when we arrived cleaning staff had left a used flannel inside the room by the door and the pedal bin in the bathroom had not been emptied. As rooms are not serviced daily, due to C-19, the provision of a toilet brush should be considered. We enjoyed the spa and the restaurant. However, as we had booked very much at the last minute, the spa treatment preferences of my wife could not be met. We didn't spend anything like what we had budgeted for!!. (The dauphinoise potato I had as a side dish on the first night was weird. A slightly wobbly semi-solid puree; not unpleasant but visually and in flavour unlike anything I have experienced before.)

Arrived for a staycation for our 40th wedding anniversary.

The hotel is a little tired in decor due to age but the building is in a quiet location, within easy reach of other main places and of course you are in the Cotswolds a beautiful part of the country. The spa facilities although limited times due to Covid were excellent, everyone was social distancing without compromise to your enjoyment of the facilities, the room was close by and a lovely roof terrace to be able to read and relax with a Prosecco or drink of your choice. Staff were accommodating and happy to help with your requirements. The reservations manager was lovely and had upgraded us to a beautiful spacious room with views across the front lawns which was a nice surprise and a lovely place to be for our relaxing staycation.

In the restaurant the menu was limited but still adequate to try a different dish each evening. Breakfast was plentiful to set you up for the day ahead.

The hotel manager was very nice to speak to and approachable, all staff would greet you with a smile and a good morning, afternoon or evening.

Another guest had an emergency one evening, the night porter was easy to reach and alerted medical assistance quickly, so it is good to know you are in safe hands should you need help.

Very pleased to have booked this hotel for our stay.

We were so excited about staying at our local hotel, but our stay was marred immediately by discovering that there was no soap with which to wash one's hands after using the toilet forcing me to leave the room to go in search of such a basic requirement. I had to ask several times which was even more disappointing. In addition, on going back to our room after dinner, we were horrified to find that the light did not work and my husband tripped on the two steps leading to our room and could have done himself a serious injury. I asked to speak to one of the managers and I'm still waiting. The only saving grace was our dinner which was executed competently. Again this was spoilt by me having to wait an extraordinarily long time for my starter while my husband finished his. You only have to read the reviews to see that the management are taking advantage of people wanting a break while they cannot even fulfil their legal obligations to ensure their guests' safety. My husband ordered a newspaper and he was charged for it, although no newspaper was actually left in the room. The biscuits left in the room were soft and stale. This was a totally upsetting experience and we couldn't possibly recommend this hotel to friends and family. Our local hotel is sadly an embarrassment.

We booked the swallows suite, one of the premium rooms for one night. Included in the package was dinner or afternoon tea and breakfast, and two hour slot in the spa (which I think was more restricted to manage social distancing). Hotel had sensible rules on distancing and face masks and hand sanitizers. We weren’t informed we should book tea times / breakfast time’s / spa times before hand, but it didn’t turn out to be an issue as we had the times we wanted.

The room was fab, bed was comfy, water tea and coffee available and internet connected tv. Nice shower.

The afternoon tea served in the lounge was good. Staff were lacking in knowledge of what afternoon tea was. Waiter admitted he only just found out scones came after sandwiches, and when I asked what selection of teas they had, I had a very confusing exchange where the upshot was they had a lot of teas, but he didn’t tell me what any of them were (he had a long lost in his head???) and so I just picked breakfast tea. All in all, okay for £15-20, but would’ve been nice to be given a tea menu!

Spa is excellent, nice pool, hot tub and temperature rooms with steam, sauna, warm beds, ice and specialised showers. That was fun. Towels, gowns and flip flops all good.

Had a drink in the lounge that evening, waitress very good, but could do with a menu to select from as once again trying to guess the order!

Breakfast was very poor. Ordered the food off a typical cooked menu. Was offered juice and coffee, what you’d expect. When the cooked portion came out was served a sausage that had been flashed under a grill for a couple of minutes. No colour, cold in the middle, looked like it had come out the packet. Waitress looked confused when I asked if it wasn’t a pork sausage (some other cured sausage maybe) and then asked her to change it because it was clearly raw. Then had to ask as well to change my plate of food that had contained the raw sausage. Got served another that looked no better. Decided not to eat any of it in the end. Bacon was underdone yet dry, eggs runny yet dry. Think they’d just microwaved my original plate I returned. In the end asked for a refund for our breakfasts as it wasn’t worth having.

So my 3 is this:
Room 4/5
Spa 5/5
Afternoon tea / lounge 4/5
Breakfast 0/5

Reception were fine, they refunded breakfast without quibble, booked what we needed. Was just a shame to leave on a bad experience.

I recently enjoyed an overnight spa break here with my boyfriend and would recommend it for a relaxing night away.
The highlights are the fabulous contemporary spa, good food, and the modern and spacious bedroom, stocked with everything you'd need including lovely Elemis products.
We booked a package to include Dinner, B&B, 55min spa treatment and a glass of prosecco which was excellent value for what we experienced.
The therapist who did my treatment was wonderfully professional and welcoming.
The steam rooms/sauna/shower experience area is a great addition to the pool and jacuzzi. Luckily it wasn't overcrowded on a Sunday afternoon with about 7-10 customers there but I can imagine at busier times it may not be as relaxing. The treatment rooms and relaxation area was great and clearly a lot of money has gone into this spa.
Some of the hotel areas (like staircases and corridor walls) haven't yet had the same modern treatment but can imagine it will follow and didn't dampen our visit.
My only criticism would be to change the music in the restaurant as the sad love song covers were a bit depressing, especially at both dinner and breakfast!
Overall we both thoroughly enjoyed it and came relaxed and refreshed.
