Again a fantastic stay at Oakland house we visit quite often and is such a lovley place to stay with great food, great views and fantastic Hospitality and very clean rooms. Many sites to see and great places to go from this location.
Wow! From the moment we booked the wonderful Oakland house, nearly a year before the wedding, we knew our stay would be brilliant. We initially booked just the Saturday night as that was the day of the wedding and the owner, Marcia, had said that she would organise atleast one room for us to get ready in. Luckily, the week before, we rung and were able to also book the Friday so we wouldn't be rushed. Marcia then gave us the number of her friends taxi firm to get us to the church and this company were £10 cheaper than our relatives travelling from the same village. We were blown away by the hospitality, Marcia came to the village hall to pick us up at 10.30pm so we didn't have to sort a taxi, she also then went out and picked up the guests in the room next to us at 2 in the morning. Even after this she was able to cook us the most delicious fry up we've ever tasted. She had even sorted out Gluten free cereal and toast for one of our party. This was honestly an amazing stay and we would most definitely be back when we visit our family again. Amazing, thank you Marcia.…
On the second leg of our three-day hike along the Mendip Way to Weston-super-Mare, my wife and I arrived footsore and weary at Oakland House to a warm welcome from our hostess Marcia. The lovely three course evening meal she cooked for us was an absolute life-saver, as well as being delicious, and we spent a pleasant evening with her chatting away. The room was clean and comfortable and provided the perfect rest for us before Marcia's homely breakfast helped set us off on our final day's walking to our destination, where we arrived at tea time. A very good b&b all round.
During the West Mendip hike I stayed for one night. The place was cheerfully decorated and very clean. My room had a nice view with a very spacious bathroom. The host Marcia was very friendly. She kindly let my friend sit in her living room while he was waiting for a bus, even though he did not stay for the night (there was nothing open in the village on Sunday evening so no other place to go). So we could comfortably chat there. I felt very comfortable as a solo traveler and I enjoyed a nice chat with her. The breakfast was wonderful, with delicious strawberries and blueberries directly harvested from Marcia's greenhouse. She also cooks scramble eggs beautifully. With enough energy I could continue on the 3rd day of the Mendip Way : ) I highly recommend her B&B!
We stayed at Oakland house for 2 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We stayed in the pink room which had excellent views across the countryside and the room itself was very large with impressive facilities. The breakfast was one of the highlights of the stay with a selection of juices, cereals and fruit with the option of a full English ( which we would thoroughly recommend). The hosts were friendly and welcoming and had good knowledge of places to eat and visit in the local area. The location itself is near many tourist attractions such as Wookey hole, Weston Super Mare and Cheddar Gorge.
