Coordinator – our wedding coordinator was brilliant from the start; Liz was great in communicating, understanding our needs and providing flexibility and attention to detail to planning. Liz made sure we were consulted every step of the way, was quick at getting back to us, made us feel like everything was in hand and taken care of. The final details were handled well and Liz ensured the team was fully briefed for the big day.
Team - the staff did a fantastic job setting up the venue. We provided certain decorations ourselves and the staff did a great job decorating to exact requirements. The operations manager, Lajos, was our coordinator on the day. We were very impressed with him. Lajos was at the venue late the night before and present for the entire wedding day. He checked in on us at every step, without overwhelming us and really made the day flow smoothly and stress free. Everyone knew their roles, the day was well orchestrated and if there were issues on the day, we didn’t know about it. Very happy with Lajos and the team.
Hotel – the rooms were beautifully made, especially the honeymoon suite that overlooks the rear of the hotel and the gardens. It made the day even more special. The hotel grounds were immaculate and every guest commended on how beautiful the grounds were.
Food – the taster menu was arranged 6-8 weeks prior to the wedding. We made suggestions to the menu and were happy with how the food came out on the wedding day. The canapés, wedding breakfast and evening buffet were delicious, beautifully presented, and the breakfast the following day was superb.
Cons
Dance Floor - the room allocated to evening dancing, is required to have a proper dance floor, roughly £600. No other venue we visited required a dance floor.
Overall, we were given the best possible wedding day.

I suppose review writers are as varied in their opinions as there are stars in the sky but there are facts and there are opinions. So opinions first:- we had a split level room which was cleaned to my highest standards especially the bathroom. The bed was softer that I`m used to but tolerable. The staff including the do it all manager were exceptional doing all they could to assist. The lamb and the beef choices at dinner were tougher than they should have been whether by cut or cooking.
Now some facts:- there were four of us in two rooms staying a total of three mights. We arrived at around 2.30pm to be informed that our room was ready. The others had arrived the day previously. Drinks prices were very high but I suppose to be expected at a venue which the AA gives 4*. What was unexpected and a fact was that on the account for our stays all extras were shown with additional service charges. So on top of the dinner costs was added 10% service. On top of the drinks prices was a similar service charge, the afternoon tea also had brasserie food service charge added but what was the most heinous addition was an "early entry" room charge addition of £50.00 as the book in time was 3.00pm. None of these supposed "service" charges had been previously advised. To his credit when the above mentioned manager was confronted with this traveller telling him that these charges were totally unacceptable especially the last mentioned he removed them without too much fuss. Considering the total for our stay was close to £1,000 the arithmetic on reduction is easily calcuable.
So BEWARE. This abhorrant underhand sneaky practice might be common but I was truly shocked as having never encountered it anywhere. Then perhaps I don`t get out enough.

After a long day getting soaked in the pouring rain we could not have wished for a more beautiful location. Firstly we could not help to notice the most beautiful grounds and setting on the long drive up to the hotel.
The receptionist gave a us a warm reception and was extremely welcoming . We were directed to a beautiful room that looked as if it had just been renovated , it was spotless , warm , cosy , inviting and it was absolutely faultless . The furniture was clean and immaculate and the shower was to die for!!
The bar staff were pleased to see us and nothing was too much of a problem, and their service was excellent. I would like to highlight our breakfast , it was far more than what you would expect and some. The breakfast staff again were nothing more than delightful to us and gave us excellent service!
We were late to leave the following day and the staff were so kind to us and they gave us that little bit more time to leave our room without any complaint.
All in all guys you made our trip extra special and I rarely write reviews but felt you ALL deserve it !! You have a great team and it shows!!!!
We are booking a 2 night stay at the end of November and already can’t wait to go back to this wonderful retreat.

Not a luxury hotel in the slightest, unless you’re used to travel lodge. It’s unwelcoming, cold and dull. There is no attention to detail, the bar menus are tatty and stained, the furniture in their ‘best room’ is tatty and worn. It looks like the interior designer quit halfway through in about 2013. The decor just doesn’t work. There were no staff, the reception lady doubles up as bar staff and as lovely as she was, doesn’t make cocktails very well. Whole place is very much mediocre. Has the ability to be great if it had some investment, staff and paid attention to the details. It sounds like the management don’t really care. It was great of housekeeping to start hoovering the hallways at 8am on a Sunday, really enhanced the relaxing vibe. Honestly if you’re paying this much, find a real luxury hotel because this place certainly isn’t!

To say I am disappointed is putting it mildly. At the end of June we booked an afternoon tea for 4 of us at 2pm at this venue. This booking took a lot to book, as 3 of us need to get support care in for family and 1 of us is coming from Ireland. Today I received a call cancelling this booking due to someone block booking the hotel. Hmmmmmmmmm nice to know existing bookings are so highly thought off. Changing date was offered but for us it is not possible and yes we will find some else to accommodate us, to get old friends that want to catch up together. Just be careful booking here, as if they get a better offer your booking will not be valued.

I took my wife for an afternoon tea at this hotel one Sunday. Our anniversary treat turned out to be memorable...
The good news – the food was excellent.
That however was no compensation for the shockingly poor service.
On arrival we were ‘greeted’ in an offhand and unwelcoming manner. The tables we were offered outside on the terrace were dirty and had cracked (unhygenic) plastic surfaces. We were served tea after about 10 minutes, and only then did a server come to clean the table around the crockery!
After half an hour we had one desultory semi apology for the long wait. One hour and ten minutes after we arrived we enquired again when our food would appear. It then arrived almost immediately. By this time the tea was stone cold and we were not offered refills of tea or water.
Had the food arrived one minute later we would have left in disgust. The food was a round of sandwiches, cakes and pastries. Not something I would expect a hotel of this size to need 70 minutes to prepare. Especially as we had booked for a specific time in advance.
On leaving, the staff member taking our payment seemed equally offhand, failing to return our credit card. This would have been the ideal time for them to comment and indeed, apologise for the delay in serving us. There was not even a “did you enjoy your afternoon tea?”
I really did not expect such terrible service at a luxury hotel. The staff seemed bored and indifferent and no-one appeared to be bothered about our impossibly long wait. The experience certainly did not warrant the cost.
At the hotel's invitation a few days later I completed their on-line review of our experience. I opted to make this private, expecting them to contact me to say something. But as they have opted to ignore me, I am making this public.

We recently attended a family wedding evening reception here at the fabulous Barnett Hill Hotel near Guildford in Surrey. My wife and I arrived late afternoon to enjoy the evening reception with family and friends. The hotel was a perfect location for the wedding reception with spacious adjoining function rooms for all the guests to enjoy the evening hospitality and entertainment. My wife and I stayed over in one of the excellent comfortable chalet rooms within the hotel grounds and enjoyed an impressive buffet breakfast the next morning in the hotel. A most enjoyable occasion and visit to the Barnett Hill Hotel.

Beautiful hotel in stunning grounds. The staff are amazing and nothing is too much trouble. The cooked breakfasts are very high quality. Lots of parking and outside space to eat/drink looking at the gardens. Small toiletries are provided in the rooms which had very comfortable mattress and pillows. I stayed with my daughter in a superking size bed with two sinks in the bathroom. We really enjoyed our stay.

I would not think twice about booking to return to Barnett Hill Hotel. I stayed with my daughter and her retriever so perhaps expected a slightly second class room - however, I was very pleasantly surprised- the room was outstanding in terms of its size, quality, cleanliness, together with amazing quality bed linen and towels, the bed was a superking, extremely comfortable with what I assume are goose down pillows. No expenses spared!!!!. The en-suite had a huge freestanding bath, double sink, huge mirror and spacious walk in shower. Generous sized shampoo, conditioner, bath oil, shower gel, moisturiser were all provided, as well as tea and coffee making facilities.
As well as the room being outstanding, the staff, despite there being a wedding celebration in attendance, couldn’t have been more prompt and welcoming. They seemed genuinely delighted to meet the retriever who enjoyed the attention and who was made very welcome in the bar which meant that we didn’t have to leave her in the room.
The hotel is perfectly located, a 5 min drive to Guildford and some great local pubs and walking distance from the heath. The hotel also has a lovely garden to walk around. I simply cannot fault this hotel, it’s staff or the location. I can, without hesitation recommend it to couples, families or corporate folk alike. I will definitely return for another stay! Superb

Beautiful grounds and location. This was the first time we had been to this hotel and as soon as we arrived a staff member called Kyle came out to help us take a photo and was so attentive and helpful throughout our visit. We were also served by Josh when we had afternoon tea and he was extremely attentive, lovely and helpful too. Very impressed with the grounds/ service and afternoon tea was delicious and very reasonably priced. We will definitely be going back, thank you.
