Detailed Reviews
Right from the initial welcome we were made to feel at home in this wonderfully comfortable and superbly appointed establishment. Both the accommodation and food are first class and the location is ideal for exploring the beautiful surrounding countryside.
High praise doesn't come close to describing the magnificent menus which were presented to us before each delicious freshly prepared meal cooked by the Chef/Proprietor. This is fine dining.
We stayed in their loft suite with it's feeling of luxurious comfort in a private secluded location looking out over the wide vista of local farmland - good for the soul!

I have visited Blackwell House for work a couple of times now and the experience has always been excellent. I was met by the owner who is friendly, welcoming and showed me my room (an annex building) where I found everything clean, tidy and fully COVID secure with all facilities wrapped in plastic after being cleaned. My room was complete with a sink, kettle & fridge. A table in the window for breakfast and the most sumptuous bathroom I think I have ever seen.
The house is set off in the countryside but only 15 min from Banbridge so fully accessible considering the remotesness of the property. When lower level COVID restrictions allow, food is served in the main house and is usually booked way in advance but breakfast is served in my room. Breakfast is brought in a wicker picnic basket complete with fresh coffee, I chose a natural yoghurt with granola but a cooked breakfast was offered.
The attention to detail at Blackwell house is superb, it is always a pleasure and a joy to stay here whenever I get the chance.
I would highly recommend this property whether for work stay over or a weekend away visiting the area. They are booking up fast, so get in while you can.

We visited Blackwell house during St. Patrick weekend. We stayed in the lounge suite with our corgi (Fanta) and we had a marvelous time. Fanta enjoyed a lot the space in the room and the homemade cookies that Joyce prepared for her ( the Pups In Pyjamas package is simply perfect). Steve was extremely welcoming and helped us every day with recommendations on nice walks around the area and also with restaurants booking for dinner. Also, we dine one day in Backwell House taking the 5-course menu and goodness, we could have eaten there every day, every single detail of the meal was perfect ! The a la carte breakfast in the morning is also stunning (photo attached ) . We enjoyed extensively our stay with Joyce and Steve and we are looking forward to coming back soon !

From the first contact with Blackwell House you are treated like a member of the family, nothing is too much trouble. We arrived on the Thursday night late and had arranged for a platter to be delivered to the room and this was amazing with cheeses meats and homemade breads and salmon terrines. The purpose of the stay was to chill out and we certainly did that. Blackwell House is ideal if you wish to explore the local countryside or just relax in their lovely grounds. All of the food is cooked by Joyce the Chef Patron and her husband Steve looks after the Front of House. We stayed in the Blue Room which is beautiful, overlooks the fields and has an amazing bathroom. We will certainly be returning soon.

We stayed in the orchard room as it is dog friendly and our wee fur baby, Betty, was with us. A bed, towel and doggy treats (homemade by Joyce) were provided. The room was exceptional and the welcome from Steve, Joyce and Murphy (for Betty) was first class. The cream tea on arrival was scrumptious and deliciously enjoyed after our journey from Scotland via the P&O ferry into Larne. It is also just an easy 10-15 minute car journey into Banbridge where there is a good selection of independent shops as well as high street names and independent restaurants such as Jinglers and The Vault.
The Irish stew made by Joyce on our first night and the 7 course taster on our last night were beautifully cooked and served by Steve and the rest of the waiting staff. All the staff were very friendly and professional and we can't rate everyone highly enough. Definitely recommend a stay at Blackwell House. A lot of care was taken too with hygeine to ensure we were all kept safe.

We chose to spend our anniversary at Blackwell House and we couldnt have selected a better place!
From the cream tea on arrival and a bottle of bubbles from start to finish everything was perfect.
Enjoyed time in the hot tub and every mouthful of the tasting menu was delicious.
We spent a little extra to stay in the luxury Loft Suite which was a great choice on a sunny weekend as we spent most of our time on the private terrace balcony. The room itself was tastefully designed and complete with all the mod cons.
Steve and Joyce are great hosts who went above and beyond the call to make the stay a memorable one. Murphy the dog was also just as good to us and there were a few surprises for our anniversary too.
We would highly recommend Blackwell House and have already booked a return stay at what is the BEST place to stay in Northern Ireland.

We went for a wedding anniversary night away towards end of July and were completely blown away!
Joyce and Steve are incredible, welcoming and warm hosts and have thought of everything possible to make your stay as homely, comfortable and exceptional as can be. Hugely comfortable rooms with incredible lengths to covid proof everything. We stayed in the beautiful blue room in the main house with the most comfy bed, large adjoining bathroom with roll top bath, and lovely views of the garden.
Nothing is too much trouble. And the food is incredible (the only issue is choosing what to have) and hugely deserving of their Breakfast of the Year award. So much skill, love, imagination has gone into every dish, made with the freshest local and home-grown ingredients. My sister (a serious foodie) stayed the next night and had the five course dinner and was completely wowed.
Just go! This place is a real treat and you won’t be disappointed. Can’t wait until our next stay!

my husband and I booked here early in July to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I had high hopes for an enjoyable stay as the reviews were amazing. To say we were blown away by the attention to detail and the beautiful surroundings is an understatement. Steve met us at reception and showed us around a bit before settling us in the garden with a complementary cream tea ( warm homemade scones fresh from the oven ) , the outdoor spaces are so peaceful and we felt instantly at home . Both Steve and Joyce are really friendly and couldn't do enough for their guests , we had a lovely chat with them in the garden where Joyce and I discovered our mutual love of Agatha Christie 😁
We stayed in the colonial room which was beautifully and tastefully decorated ... we felt as though we had stepped into another era with the roll top Bath and four poster bed. There are so many other details that I could ramble on about but I wouldn't want to spoil the experience for future guests. Needless to say we will be visiting again in the near future.
Stay at Blackwell ! you won't be disappointed!

We stayed for 5 nights whilst visiting family.
The whole experience was exceptional from the moment we arrived to the day of departure.
Joyce and Steve are incredible hosts and supported by such lovely staff.
We have never stayed in such a beautiful b&b. So much attention has been paid to detail, whether in your room, inside the guest areas or garden. Stunning.
The food is delicious, which makes choosing breakfast difficult with so many tantalising choices to chose from.
On this note, if you stay includes one of the evenings where you can also choose to dine in for an evening meal, don’t miss it. We cannot recommend it enough.
Thank you Steve and Joyce for making our short break so wonderful and will definitely be rebooking for our return next year.

We just had a much needed relaxing week+ at Blackwell House with our two dogs. Steve and Chef Joyce went above and beyond, and took such good care of us while we destressed. In fact, we were so comfortable, relaxed, and cared for that we primarily slept and ate and recharged, with only occasional ventures out to see the local sights. We ate at the House nearly every night, it’s hard to walk away after seeing Chef Joyce’s daily fresh and local menu. Her foods are edible comfort, with a gourmet touch. Steve is pure kindness, his every effort is to give you the experience you need. We plan to return soon!
