Did you know this was a former Mortuary my dad worked there as a kid. So you Ghost Hunters beware you might get more than what you are asking for. So now I got to put in some filler words so they would actually submit in posters I'm not a blue IQ where have to use bunch of extra words to express my point but I can keep on going on and on and on

My husband and I were recently visiting the area, our son is doing a summer internship nearby. I love to stay in B&Bs when possible especially in old homes like this. So much history. It was a beautiful place built in 1885. Each room was elegantly furnished. We stayed in the "Ballroom" on 3rd floor. It was very nice and accommodating. Our breakfast the next day was excellent with puff apple pancakes, fresh fruit. If in area again we would certainly stay again.

On arrival we had to call because door is locked which was okay they answered and let us in. Showed us around. We stayed in miss Martha's room and had a bathroom down the hall which we were unsure about but it wasn't a big deal! Had breakfast next day and it was very good! This was our 1st B&B and loved it. Loved the old ness of the home and could admire the work in the rooms and etc. def would stay again!

My husband and I were given a gift of a night at The Oaks as a wedding present. When I emailed a couple of weeks ago to make the reservation, my email was answered and the date was set for April 2, 2016. When I tried to call to confirm on the morning of the 2nd, I discovered their toll-free number was disconnected, their domain had expired, their email address was no longer valid and the other number I had was busy all day, and still is 24 hours later. We made the drive anyway. When we arrived they were in work clothes and acted like they didn't expect us or want us there. The place smelled so strongly of mildew and mold and dust that it would have set off an asthma attack if I suffered with asthma. They put us in a room with no heat, an old mattress, and bedding that stunk like the rest of the place. Clearly, they are not in business yet they took my friends' money. The only way to contact them is to drive out there which I am not going to waste 2 hours of my time doing. And since they did offer us a bed, I'm sure they can justify keeping the money. I will report them to the better business bureau.…

We were captivated by the beautiful original details in this B&B. We stayed in Master John's Quarters. It was very comfortable. The only drawback was the step up into the shower/toilet room (looks as though it was previously a closet). For breakfast we were delighted with the delicious Eggs Benedict & potatoes. It would be great if the entrance were lit!

We chose this B&B since it was close to New Salem and Springfield. It took us awhile before we were able to contact someone to make a reservation, and the hosts took some time to answer the doorbell when we arrived. The house is impressive, but in need of maintenance, as do the grounds. Our room at the top of the house was nicely decorated, though dim (small, high windows) and a bit dusty, but the bathroom was clean and well-appointed. The bed was very comfortable, and the air conditioning ample, though somewhat loud. We were given a good recommendation about the local pizzeria a short walk away in the village square. A stroll around the neighborhood was pleasant. The breakfast was delicious, and the dining room offered individual tables. The rates were quite reasonable. An improvement in both customer service and maintenance would help make this a more welcoming place.…

Over priced, unkempt grounds, surly owners who were rude, and average food. Would not go again. Unless you are visiting a relative in the area this place is really not worth the bother. There are other accommodations in the same town with much better B&B appeal. Best to check them out.

What a memorable family get-together we had last weekend at The Oaks! We have always wanted to experience a Murder Mystery and The Oaks was the perfect setting for this event. We arrived Friday early evening and Ken checked us into our rooms - the ballroom, the maid's quarters and Olivia's room. All were charmingly decorated and for a building that was built in 1875 were extremely comfortable. Dinner was served shortly afterward and was simply amazing. Our waitress "Wanda" (who we later discovered was part of the Murder Mystery) welcomed us with plenty of "beverages" and Chef Susan prepared a delightful crab cake appetizer, a mouthwatering salad and succulent coq au vin! Although we were all just about in a food coma, we managed to try dessert . . . the most scrumptious banana foster! The next day began with an amazing breakfast followed by the scavenger hunt which led us around Petersburg to find clues to prepare us for the evenings Murder Mystery Dinner. The meal was again absolutely delicious and the characters were a hoot! If you enjoy a good "Whodunit" and gourmet cuisine in a fabulous historical setting, then make sure you book a Murder Mystery at The Oaks!!!…

Spouse picked this place as a surprise gift. When we arrived, the welcome by the owner was not accomadated with a smile or any warmth. Breakfast was very good and the wife was functionally polite. Aloof couple...not sure why running a B & B where you have to interact with people. We wanted a getaway so not looking for a fireside chat. The room was gross...tv stand was dusty and I couldnt look at the peeling paper and mold on the walls. The bathroom was nice and clean! Yea! Appreciate this is a big property and there is a lot of maintenance required but come on... It is a beautiful place but in dire need of repair. Great peace and out of way location...Would have enjoyed the stay better if the owners were a little more nice. Didnt ask if we enjoyed the stay ...just seemed to care less. Disappointed and will not return. Happy others enjoyed their visit.…

It's been awhile since we stayed, but I remember it fondly. We decided to do a little sightseeing on our way home and meandered into Petersburg. When it came to looking for a place for the night, we decided to look for a B&B. The Oaks had one room left for the night and we headed over to find it. The house is stunning. The room was a smaller one, but cozy and comfortable. The breakfast was amazing. I still remember how perfect the bacon was, plus we got a good serving of veggies in with our eggs! Delicious and healthy. We look forward to making our way back for another stay.
