Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had the pleasure of having our complete wedding day and reception at The Mill House and everything from start to finish was great. Faultless. From initial booking to meetings and to the main event it couldn't of gone better. All the staff were so helpful and we had the smoothest of days. Great feedback from all guests too regarding the venue and food. The food especially went down well both the dinner and evening buffet. All rooms were clean and comfortable. I would highly recommend The Mill House. Thank you all.

We went for a afternoon tea , and i have been before , but the last time i went we paid in cash , this time we was told they don't accept cash , the staff were brilliant , the food was lovely as were our drinks , its a shame because this is not down to the people who make it such a lovely place , but i would not go back because they do not take cash , and i am all for cash is king, and cannot understand anyone not accepting what is legal tender , but could not fault the service and food

I stayed at the Mill House Hotel as it was close to where I had just started work. From the outside it looks lovely and traditional and has onsite parking. When I checked in the staff were lovely and told me that I had been booked into the bridal suite. In the room was a very comfy 4 poster bed, a fridge and a jacuzzi bath. I really thought i'd hit the jackpot but I was actually disappointed. The room could do with being updated, the mattress was on top of some ripped leatherette sheeting, the chaise long had lots of stained marks on it, the toilet sounded like a beast was trying to get out of the back of the unit (Think it was a sniflo toilet) and the filter in the Jacuzzi bath kept on coming off. Also when I used the shower I had to almost contort my body to get under the faucet because the head was mangled and the water came out like points on a compass and the best one was when I soaked the bathroom floor when I turned the tap on at the sink and the tap turned over the side and water went every where. Lovely garden out the back if you want to enjoy and relax with a drink or just some peace and quiet. Disappointed because it really looks lovely. Maybe I was just unlucky but if that's the bridal suite it leaves a lot to be desired.

We were married here and had an amazing day. Staff were very attentive and helpful. Garden was beautiful. We had some minor quibbles, but nothing major and overall would have rated this as 4 and a half stars out of 5 if we had the option to do so. We had many compliments from our guests about the venue.

We celebrated our daughters wedding at the Mill House yesterday. Absolute perfect day nothing was too much trouble for the staff to organise. The gardens and marquee were amazing. Mark, Chris, Kim and Kate were all so attentive and accommodating. We would definitely recommend this venue for a wedding. Very reasonably priced too! Shaun and Hayley Jones

Set in a nice area , we were there for a family get together .. Greeted by nice staff and shown were room was , room was spacious with coffee , tea and biscuits ,nice clean bedding and a very large bath room with clean towels and shower wash, shampoo provided. A couple of small downsides , no internet which is unusual now a days and small areas in the bathroom needed some TLC due to damp or a leak from the roof. The hotel its self did need some freshening up paint in places as well. Breakfast next morning was freshly cooked with nicely presented. All in all a reasonable place to stay.

We held the funeral service for my father at Easthampstead Park crematorium, and had looked at a number of potential venues for the reception afterwards. The Mill House felt to us to be exactly what we were looking for - a nice, homely feeling hotel, in a lovely location. Emma, the Sales Manager, was very helpful. On our arrival to view the hotel she was waiting for us, to open the door and show us in which made us feel very welcome. We talked about what we wanted and nothing was too much trouble. We booked the interior option (They also have a marquee, more suited to weddings). On the day, we had early access to set up photo boards (the Mill House provided stands for these) and a screen and PC. When the guests arrived, a manager was on duty to direct the parking, with family having parking directly in front of the hotel. There is plenty of parking in an additional car park behind the hotel. The food was very good, and good value, and all the staff on duty were very friendly and helpful. There is a well maintained and decorative garden, and the room we used had direct access to it. The only note of caution is that there are steps to negotiate on entering the hotel and getting to the function room, which the elderly guests had to use with care. No-one tripped, though, so it wasn't a major problem! Overall, I would recommend The Mill House and we will certainly be happy to visit again.

We were due to get married in 2020 but because of COVID we made the decision to cancel and try again later. In 2022 we started looking at venues again and this time we found The Mill House. It was everything we had been looking for, it feels so private and hidden but is close to transport links and it has a beautiful outside area and marquee that was just perfect. We had the whole venue just for our wedding party which was perfect and with its 12 bedrooms was great for our close family and friends to stay there with us. We got married 11/02/23 so as a winter wedding we weren't sure what the outdoors would be like but they maintain the grounds beautifully and it looked perfect, and lucky for us it was a lovely day. The attention to detail of all the staff was incredible, we had to make so many changes to table plans and we added on/changed things later and the venue were so accommodating and the staff so friendly. They put in so much care to make it perfect for us and we have had so many compliments from our family and friends about how smoothly the day went. The food was delicious and they asked all the right questions in the meetings beforehand to get the details right (some things I didn't even think of). We just had the best day and couldn't recommend it enough as a wedding venue, it will always be so special to us.

We did not stay overnight. We had driven up from Somerset for a family funeral. We had googled and found that was dog friendly, so brought our two dogs with us.. We were told they were not allowed in eating areas (this was in a bar area where we had private only booking.). I asked where dogs were allowed and was told ‘down the lane outside’.

Response from , Owner at The Mill House Hotel and Restaurant
Responded 10 Feb 2023
Hi We are very sorry that you were disappointed when you visited us, there seems to have been a miscommunication. We were not aware that we were being advertised as dog friendly so googled, and found ourselves on a Dog friendly website. We have requested removal from that site as, even though we do allow dogs, they are restricted to outside areas only. Again, we are sorry for the inconvenience. Very best wishes Mark & Kim Pybus
