If you’re looking for a lovely quiet getaway away from kids and big party crowds then this is the place for you. We were so happy with our stay, the staff were friendly, the food was abundant (and SO FREAKING GOOD), and they have a number of excursions included in the price which give great value.

If you’re looking to be loud and party with a big group like the other reviewer from Mississauga then this place is definitely not for you and yes, you should look elsewhere.

We enjoyed how relaxing and quiet it was with couples and small groups. the bar was close to the beach so a short walk, or the staff would serve you right on the beach using a flag system. Fruit and veggie bar right on the beach too for snacks and a poolside bar near the opposite end of the beach as well.

We did a number of the excursions including Dunns Falls (make sure you don’t go on a cruise ship day), glass bottom boat tour, and the shopping tour. They also have a tour desk in the front lobby where we booked a couple other excursions at an extra cost including swimming with dolphins and the luminous lagoon.

I also did the scuba lesson and then paid for a dive in the ocean - it was truly magical and we saw a large ray on the bottom of the ocean!!

All transportation is arranged for you which is lovely - they take care of everything (I highly recommend Carlos and Bones for drivers!). If you’re looking for something specific staff will go out of their way to find someone who can offer it to you or give you the experience you are looking for. Here staff are encouraged to sit and speak with you so you never feel like just another customer, they really personalize your experience and make you feel like part of their big family. Even though 1 week is really only a blip to some of them who’ve been there over 10 years!

Great room service twice daily unless you put out your do not disturb card. They even come in the evening and prep your bed and curtains for sleep time!

Lots of daily and evening events, it’s really impossible to do everything they have to offer. The first night they set up the pool deck with glittering lights, live entertainment and a HUGE buffet. They had a fire show, acrobatics, piano bar, and lots of other wonderful local acts to keep you entertained.

If that’s not enough to sell you, they also have a coffee bar, gym with yoga classes, beach volleyball, and 3 restaurants that are spectacular. Eight Rivers is the fanciest one and the food was incredible.

Overall we had a wonderful experience and are crying today coming home to 2 feet of snow. Will definitely be back.

This is the second time we have been here and yet again it didn't disappoint. The hotel is lovely not too big with great views whether it's over the ocean or the beautifully kept gardens at the back. The rooms are spacious and kept spotless and even tho the drinks are all inclusive seem to be sound proof from noise. The staff are great all seem very happy in their work as they seem to laugh and chat all the time. Food is very nice even tho I don't like spicy food too much I could always find something to eat. The 2 separate restaurants offer
a la carte menus with waiter service. Entertainment is good. The only critisisms I have is that the dress code for evenings seem to have gone lots of shorts loud tee shirts and caps !! and the staff in the main restaurant seem to try and serve too many people at once leaving some waiting a long time for water and achohol. Having said that we have booked to go back again next Christmas as we enjoy it so much. Well done couples !!!!!

Prior to booking I read many reviews and wondered if those reviewers were similar to me and my spouse. We are middle age professionals who travel once or twice a year. If this is you we may have common feelings about what is good quality.

We visited Couples Swept Away in February of 2017 and would rate it as near perfect. We priced Swept Away again and the price had gone up over $1500! So we decided to try Tower Isle which was reasonably priced. Below are Pros and Cons:

Pros: Very clean resort
Nice staff, the tennis coach Collin was very knowledgeable and two servers at
Eight Rivers stood out to me, Garfield and Kevon. Both were top notch.
Food was great with the exception of two entrees at Bayside. The fish was heavily breaded in a Snapper dish and there were literally tiny bones in my husband’s chicken dish.
The pools were nicer than those at Swept Away
The free excursion to Dunn’s River Falls was nice considering people were paying $35 a head to enter.
Our room in the 5th block was away from resort noise and still had a nice ocean view.
They do not try to sell you any sort of timeshare (Aberostar was awful about this)
The spa was nice and I had a great facial, I so wish I could remember her name. My husband had a great massage by Marie.

Cons: the resort’s hallways are dark and unlike Swept Away which has bungalow type rooms with an Island Vibe Tower Isle is an old school type concrete hotel.
The catamaran cruise at Swept Away was about 10x better because it is scenic and you swim in a cave. Tower Isle’s involves putting around very slowly for about 2 hours too long with a little swimming in open ocean given as an option.
The drinks definitely seem to be watered down. I had 4 pina colada’s and had no buzz but a stomach ache from all the sugar.
The house red wine is not palatable at all. And I usually purchase bottles at Kroger for $10 so I am not a wine snob.

So overall we had a very nice time. If you have the extra money Swept Away is better but if cost is a big consideration Tower Isle is nice.

Every year we visit, it is always an awesome experience. The staff is always very personable and willing to help out, the resort is always maintained (considering it is steps from the ocean and we know what sea air and water quickly does to buildings). The resort is small enough (approx 220 rooms) that if you need to make a trip back to your room, it is quick instead of a long haul. There are so many included activities included (diving and golf to name a couple) that will keep you busy all day, if you want. Or you sit on the beach with your drink flag and not have to get up from our lounge chair to go to the bar. Want to be venturous, they also have a small island off the main beach that is au natural. Regarding food, it is amazing!! There is such a variety from the more formal French restaurant, to Asian (over the water), Jamaican restaurant, Veggie Bar and a pool side grill. Want to just chill in your room, order room service and enjoy a drink from your own mini bar. Couples also has room service from morning until late in the evening. Oh so good!! If you have food allergies, let them know and they will take care of you, no worries!! Alcohol drinks are so good, anything you want or can't make up your mind, the bartender will make you a drink. A must try is the Espresso Martini - can't just have one. . . . A great resort to experience, relax on the beach with your significant other or participate in resort activities, it is up to you. Need to relax a bit more, book a massage at the award winning spa from couples massages to individual spa treatments. It will definitely make you relaxed. Be romantic and have a couples massage outside in the spa courtyard area under the stars. As the saying goes, 'Once you go, you know.' We went once in 1997 and have been back numerous times. Have gotten to know so many staff and made some great friends over the years. If you want to get off the resort during your visit, please don't miss out on exploring the beauty of Jamaica.

This is a great place to vacation. The staff was incredibly friendly an efficient. The resort very clean and well maintained. After we arrived (free shuttle from the airport) and walked in the door we we immediately given a cool towel and a drink. The staff even had our registration information right there and we were in our room in a matter of minutes. Every night they had something different thats was fun. The restaurants were all great, except for the breakfast buffet where the scrambled eggs were always very runny and I don't know what the breakfast sausages were about, but there were plenty of other options, also getting coffee was sometimes a challenge. The yoga on the island was a great way yo start the day, and the gym was nice. Once you get there be sure to make reservations at guest services for the week to make sure you get the times you want, also the tours are a good way to learn your way around. The dinner at the private island (extra charge, but worth it) was a great experience, and since I had told them I was was planning on proposing at dinner Joel made it very special night. Also finding that they had decorated our room with rose petals and flowers with champagne and glasses as well was unexpected and just an example of how the resort goes above and beyond to make it a special vacation (thank you very much Nisa). Be sure to walk the gardens in the front of the resort and visit the birds and kittens.

Excellent accommodations and excellent service! Couples always provides top notch service to their guests. It's our first time staying at this property and Couples did not disappoint. Even though occupancy was extremely low, the staff did a wonderful job catering to our needs, and it appeared the same was true for the other guests. And the staff does an excellent job at managing cleanliness during the current Covid situation. Hand sanitizers were everywhere, and were required to be used upon entry to the restaurants, gift shop, etc. I really like that. And wiping down of tables is quite rigorous.

We actually felt safer at Tower Isle than in most any resort location in the US. Part of this is because the Jamaican government required that all US visitors be tested negative for Covid within a short time before arrival into Jamaica. The second part of this is because the Jamaican people seem to take the threat of Covid very seriously, so the behaviors are very deliberate and cautious to not impact others.

The only shortcoming at Tower Isle is the beach (compared to Negril). Of course, this is not the fault of Couples, it's just the difference in the landscape (much more rocky in Ocho Rios). So you need to be careful in the water because there is an abundance of rocks. We went into the water only on one end of the beach that was free from rocks for the most part. But if you venture too far east on the short beach, you will get into a very rocky situation.

So happy that Couples is open and continuing to deliver the excellent quality that is hard to find elsewhere. Thanks to all those hard work folks that made are stay memorable.

We got back from our third trip to Couples Tower Isle last week, would have happily stayed another two weeks.
There is so much to do that the days feel way too short. Tennis lessons & scuba diving are excellent. Pickle ball is a great addition to the resort.
The food is outstanding, from casual dining at the Pool Grill and Patio to formal Eight Rivers and romantic Bayside. Reservations are needed for a couple of the restaurants but there is a fair system in place that ensures guests do not use these special restaurants daily. The main restaurant (Patio) had varied options from healthy to indulgent for breakfast, lunch & dinner.
The evening entertainment was great on some days (cultural show, steel band, acrobats) and not to our taste on others. Gave us a chance to have an earlier night or a drink in the piano bar.
The beach is not the biggest but it is nice enough and we tended to spend our time swimming in the sea and enjoying the view.
Pools are great, one swim up pool bar which seemed to be super popular and a quieter pool for relaxing and swimming. They have water volleyball and aqua aerobics in this pool now and then, we found it very entertaining and not disturbing at all. Reserving sun loungers and not using them for hours was definitely popular this year..would be good to prevent this!
The rooms are not luxurious but they are spacious, bright and generally well maintained.

The negatives we chose to ignore...
Some of the staff are very clearly only interested in tips and will keep you waiting or even on the rare occasion refuse to do something. There are very few who do this and unfortunately it is thanks to those guests who cannot resist tipping for anything and everything. The resort had a policy which worked very well but as more and more guests distribute handfuls of dollars, one can hardly blame the employees for wanting a piece of the cash.

A couple of the managers (sorry but I will call you out as I had to make a super effort to not let you ruin even the slightest bit of my vacation),
water sports and entertainment, would be better of hidden away in an
office. Try not to cross them as they
have an attitude I have not
encountered anywhere else. I am going to leave it there.
Overall, Couples Resorts are a wonderful place to stay and we will
definitely return. There are so many
fantastic people working in CTI who show great
enthusiasm and skills every
day, greet you with the biggest smile
and let you have an unforgettable
holiday. They are the reason why
guests return year after year or even
several times a year. Thank you to
all of you!

Hotel is in a good location but beware its a full 2 hrs from Montego Airport. Check-in ok but a little slow.
Rooms are a bit old and tired and need a facelift.
Staff are friendly but a little unorganised. For example breakfast tables are not laid up ready. Once seated, 1 person lays cutlery, another pours hot drinks and another pours water and clears table. This leads to delays starting your breakfast and getting a drink.
Food was excellent in all restaurants. Hotel could do with 1 more, as at peak times you were would struggle to get in.
Water-sports readily available but beware scuba is not included. Training is free but a dive is $50pp weekday’s and $75pp weekends.
Excursions were all very good.
Sunbeds in the sun at a premium. Only one side of each pool and small area of the beach get sun all day long.
Bars were all good. Piano bar is the best, just a shame the pianists only play for about 30-40 mins. They are the highlight of the ents team.
We didn’t visit the private Island as it contains the nudist beach.
Nice hotel overall, worth a visit but we have stayed in better at Montego bay.

Pros

Food is excellent throughout the resort.
COVID sanitation is excellent.
Au Naturel Island is very unique and comfortable.
(Most) staff are friendly and accommodating.
The gym had good equipment.
The grounds are beautiful.
The spa villa room has nice lighting and a nice decor.
The climate control in the spa villa works perfectly.
Lots of towels available.

Cons

Dinner service can be slow sometimes.
Some staff are grumpy and uninformed.
The spa villa private plunge pool was too hot and not adjustable from the room. We were not informed that it can be adjusted until another guest who is a repeater informed us.
The shower is not hot, low pressure, and positioned very low so most people will need to crouch.
The pillows and mattress are not comfortable and gave us neck aches.
The room mini fridge was not stocked regularly even though requested every day using the menu card and calling the front desk.
Couples massage was not side by side.
Body scrub was not a scrub at all and no exfoliation.
Massages were cold and oil was not warmed when applying.
New Year’s Eve gala at the main patio was not announced and not on the activity board. Staff did not know about NYE details when asked. They even took our dinner reservation for NYE even though the restaurants were closed.
The entertainment board is not accurate as a few events never took place as listed.
The same band performed every night, with different singers and under a different band name, lacking energy to make you want to dance.
Didn’t see any guests dancing all week except for NYE where they brought in the New Year with a DJ.
We looked forward to the Veggie bar, but the staff there are unhappy and out of most menu items and don’t give you veggies unless you ask. They give you chips and hummus.

All in all was a nice stay, but for the money which we have spent on other stays, especially for the villas, was a little disappointing. And with better communication between staff and management and staff and guests, we feel this could have been so much better. Maybe a more detailed list in the room of how things work or from the guest check in, especially for the spa villas where we paid a premium, would help.

We visited CTI for our honeymoon in early September and had a wonderful time. It was about 30% capacity. We tried just about every water sport they offered and had a private tennis lesson that was awesome. We had great experiences scuba diving and visiting Dunn River Falls. The food was always delicious and featured so many fresh fruits and vegetables at every meal. The staff made sure we were always having a good time. It made us feel really safe that they were cleaning everything frequently and wearing face masks consistently. We loved our garden view room and listening to the tree frogs at night. We had a few issues with our "private" island dinner but the guest relations staff were very receptive to our feedback and helped remedy everything.

From talking with other guests, it was a different experience than it would have been pre-pandemic but we didn't miss anything since this was our first time. We would definitely like to visit Couples again once things are back to normal.

Answer from Jeanne W
Nebraska3,698 contributions35 helpful votes
I would like to highly encourage you NOT to do the dolphin excursion without doing the research to see why it is a really bad idea. Dolphins are magnificent creatures and do not belong in captivity. Captive animal attractions are cruel. We have been lucky enough to see them swimming by the resort and have them play and come into the bay from catamaran trips. Please do the research first, if you still feel the need to participate, go to the Couples Website and click What's Included and then Ocho Rios excursions you will find the costs of the Dolphin activity. For the Scuba, click What's included and scroll down to Unlimited Scuba
