Detailed Reviews
Just returned home from an overnight stay here with very mixed feelings about it. First off the positives - the staff, in particular the spa staff who were beyond helpful and super friendly and really go the extra mile for visitors. A real asset to this business. The spa facilities are great, better than most of the other spa hotels I’ve visited. There’s a great selection of facilities and it’s very clean. The bathroom, we stayed in the Parklands Suite and the bathroom was really great, a huge spa bath and shower which really is the highlight of this room.
Unfortunately there were a few negatives. On arrival our room temperature was set at 10 degrees, it was so incredibly cold and uncomfortable it took quite some time to heat up, perhaps having the housekeeping staff ensuring this is set at a comfortable temperature for guest checking in would be a good idea.
The mattress in the Parklands Suite really needs replaced, the springs are obviously broken in the middle of the bed and it made it very uncomfortable. If you lay on either side of the bed you couldn’t help but roll into the middle as the dip is quite extreme. I did have a quick look at the mattress as it really bothered me and it does look quite old, you can see it’s well worn. This isn’t a case of everyone likes a different type of mattress, it just needs replaced.
The pillows weren’t great either, I’d have expected there to be a mix of firm and soft pillows like almost all other hotels I’ve stayed in. Instead we had 5 super firm pillows that were very uncomfortable and not in any way luxurious.
We were woken at 6am by what we thought was construction going on outside of our room, this turned out to be the air con/heating vent! Luckily we retreated to the spa for some relaxation after a really terrible nights sleep due to the uncomfortable bed.
Most of the negatives I wouldn’t have minded so much however, this room is £200+ a night. Not quite what we were expecting when we booked what we thought would be a very relaxing luxury night away. Having the opportunity to get a night away is so rare and I can’t help but feel incredibly disappointed that we choose to spend our hard earned money on this room. I woke up feeling sore and uncomfortable which defeats the purpose of visiting a spa hotel.
I’d suggest if your planning on visiting this hotel for an overnight stay and are considering booking the Parklands Suite I’d recommend just booking one of the less expensive rooms, the space in this room is great but it does lack luxury and finishing touches. You can see they have tried to achieve this but haven’t quite delivered. Had it not been for the great spa facilities making up for this stay I’d really have thought about approaching the manager to discuss our stay.

Decided to take my wife here for lunch.
How else can I describe this apart from WOW.
As we entered Michael’s bistro from a wet miserable day outside we were welcomed to this lovely restaurant with the log effect fire burning in the middle of the room. We were met at the door and gave our details for track and trace and were sat down. Now if anyone knows my wife, if there is a fire she almost want to sit in it so we asked if we could move tables so she could be closer to the warmth which was no problem to the staff.
We ordered our food and did not wait long before the starters arrived, and boy they were good. She had the spring rolls and I had the soup. Both items were so tasty and started the meal off well.
Then onto the mains. I opted for the Teriyaki fillet stir fry from the specials and the other half opted for the bean burger. I was a bit apprehensive as stir fries can be bland but this was a taste explosion from the first mouthful to the last with the steak and veg cooked to perfection. The bean burger she loved but personal choice she felt the 2 burgers on the bun was too much for her as she had to leave a bit to allow room for desert.
Desert. We ordered Sticky Toffee Pudding and Hot Chocolate Brownie. I have never heard moans of delight from my wife like that in years as she tucked into the sticky toffee pudding which shows she was enjoying every mouthful. My brownie I was expecting hot/warm going by it’s name but was served cold. It’s more an observation than a complaint as I really enjoyed it cold and if it had been warm I might not had enjoyed as much.
One thing I noted was after dealing with cash and certain other duties on how the waiting staff sanitised their hands before going back to serving keeping good hygiene practices within this new times we are living in.
Highly recommended and when we are back through this way again we will be back and might even add some spa treatments and make a day of it.

Dear TheThomsons2001, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit to Michael's, we really appreciate all feedback. I am delighted the team looked after you and made you feel comfortable. I am really glad you enjoyed your meal and have passed your kind comments on to both the Restaurant and Kitchen Teams. I am sorry your brownie was served cold, this is supposed to be served slightly warm to add a perfect gooeyness to the center. We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

My girlfriend and I booked a 2 night visit,
it was our first time visiting Glasgow and the surrounding areas.
We were greeted by an extremely friendly receptionist (Chris)
the room was immaculate and the safety precautions regarding Covid-19 were fantastic throughout the Hotel and Spa.
Chris on reception was excellent, he helped us plan our day visits to the city, talked us through the covid safety precautions, printed local walks, and site seeing routes.
he was just a lovely guy to talk to, and excellent at his job.
All the staff were friendly, extremely clean and hygienic throughout the premises.
The Gym and Swimming Pool area was also spotless the gym had a wide range of apparatus and was not very busy at all.
Overall we had a delightful stay, we wish we had booked for a week!
Once again many thanks to Chris for all of his help.

A last minute spa trip for 2 nights. We booked the hotel mainly for the leisure facility which looked great on their website.
Leisure Facility
The hydro pool with jets, steam room and two saunas were all very good. It is adults only in the leisure part after 6.30pm which was much appreciated, as we were in need of a relaxing break after a whole year of working without a long holiday.
Breakfast
It is table service and it was cooked beautifully. Very organised and staff are very prompt and efficient. It shows it is a well run hotel where all the staff are trained really well and care about what they do. Having had terrible and chaotic breakfast set up in other hotels post covid time, this was much appreciated.
Service
Staff were so friendly and helpful, which made the stay special. Fraser at the restaurant got me bags of Earl grey tea when I ordered it at our breakfast table (there is none in the room). The American staff (AJ? Maybe?) at the spa turned on the jets for us 10 min before the closing time. Mel at the bar didn’t charge us for our drinks when there was a little delay in our drinks arriving due to a mix up of orders (there was no need to waive the charge, but thank you Mel!) Susan at the reception was really welcoming and friendly too.
Rooms
We initially tried to book Parklands Suite (with a bath with jets and a terrace) but could not book it for 2 nights so booked a standard double room but it was the biggest standard double room we stayed in, with a lounge area with a sofa and a table and a really big bathroom with beautiful tiling! It was very clean and the bed was really big. We stayed in 202, close to the lift, and it was very quiet apart from one morning when we briefly got woken up by sound of children in the corridor.
Location
Hotel is outside Glasgow, but being very tired parents who just needed time to relax and chill, it was perfect for us as we didn’t really need to go anywhere else. There was an Italian restaurant nearby which looked lovely and Millar and Carter is nearby too so if you choose not to eat at the hotel there are other options nearby too.
In summary…
We normally go to Sheraton in Edinburgh if it is a mini spa break, but as their thermal suite was under refurbishment, we gave Parkland a go this time and glad we did. If you have the same amount of money and two nights instead of one to spend then this hotel is a good alternative - particularly for very tired parents who just want to relax for a couple of nights :)

We'd seen this hotel come up a couple of times in reviews and eventually decided to book it for a celebratory treat. We followed our GPS system and got parking at the back of the hotel. Despite signs saying "Parklands ****", the back of the building is horrid & dirty. My partner & I were baffled when we entered the building - it was all cold brick walls (like an old sports centre) and there was a queue of people lining up to pick up their kids from the onsite nursery. A kind parent saw we looked confused and gave us directions through the building to the main reception. Before reaching there, we saw signs for a pool with observation deck (odd for a spa hotel?) & there seemed to be adult sports going on in a hall, as well as a kids karate class in another space.
When we eventually reached the main reception the receptionist asked for a card for the security deposit. She tried my partners card multiple times before suggesting he had no money on it and asking him to add £20 to his account. He checked his online banking and got a notification to say the expiry date was being typed in wrong - the receptionist tried again and it went through. By the time we reached our room we were pretty unimpressed only to find the £35 extra we'd paid for our wee celebration treat (swan towels, prosecco, chocolate strawberries and rose petals) was pretty dire. The towels were lovely but the petals were fake and 6x strawberries provided. We asked to see the spa facilities and were told we weren't allowed in our normal clothes (despite local members swiping in with cards with outdoor clothes) and told to look at the photos on the wall for an idea about what it was like. The pool was open for all the public to see and so was no different from a leisure pool i.e. not the standard of a relaxing spa that the hotel's literature would make you think.
However, the bed was comfortable and bathroom was really clean. The food in restaurant is lovely and the staff in serving were fantastic and attentive. Can't fault them or their service at all!
Okay for a basic stay but hard to see where all the top reviews and awards originate from.

Responded 29 May 2022
Dear DMairi, I have responded to the same review on booking.com and find it difficult to understand why you felt it necessary to post the same review on two different platforms before giving us a chance to respond to the first one. As already said in the first review the sign at the rear of the building does say Hotel Parking 100yds with an arrow and had you followed this, it would have taken you to the hotel main entrance. We do not have a pool with an observation deck and can only assume that you mistook the viewing gallery at the Sportshall for one. The Sportshall gives us extra facilities for our guests such as badminton, basketball and table tennis which we see as a bonus. Due to hygiene reasons, no one is allowed in the spa area in outdoor clothing. The members who are 'swiped' through have to change into appropriate clothing to enter the spa or the gym. Again apologies for the issue with the card but it was simply human error and your comments have been taken on board to be used to retrain the staff. We feel our packages for the rooms are a reasonable price as to purchase a bottle of Prosecco at the bar is almost £30 so you have the swan towels and petals and chocolate dipped strawberries for an extra few pounds. We cannot use real rose petals as these leak colour and stain the bedding and the carpets. I am pleased that you found the room to be clean and comfortable and that the restaurant staff looked after you. Your comments will be passed on to them. Had you spoken to a manager or myself at the time of your stay, a lot of these issues would have been addressed prior to your departure. However should you decide to return to the hotel we would be delighted to welcome you back. Kind Regards Gil

I phoned to ask about £20 they had taken from my account to be told that it was in my T&C and that I was making my self out to be stupid and look silly. The £20 is a pending transaction apparently but this has been taken from my account and they are refusing to deal with it, in my eyes they have actually stole from myself as they refused to deal with the issue and refunded me the money.
I then raised a complaint about the room being dirty for the “manager”to reply “ why didn’t you raise it with me on the night” as it was my partners birthday I didn’t want to ruin a special night but he didn’t let me actually finish my sentence I asked to speak to the owner for him to reply “the owner is my dad” He refused to deal with my issues to which i replied I would take the issue further whether that means social media his reply was laughter and “ that social media doesn’t work with me i will be sure to reply to you” and hung up on me.
I think it’s a disgrace that in the middle of covid-19 pandemic the hotel room was dirty and the manager refusing to deal with it.
Evidently this “manager” thinks he can speak to people any way he wants as his dad owns the hotel so if you have any issues with you’re stay you won’t get this resolved as the manager lacks in customer service.
I would also like to state the hotel is very old and run down the spa was not up to standard and for award winning hotel the stay was a shambles.

Response from William Furie, General Manager at Parklands Hotel & Country Club
Responded 17 May 2021
Good Afternoon Nadia, As we have already responded to you on various other review platforms, we feel there is nothing further we can do to assist you with the matters you have raised and your review is nothing short of incorrect and inaccurate information. However for the avoidance of doubt and to provide other travelers with the full full picture I have posted our previous reply below. Thank you for your review, we appreciate all feedback. I would like to offer my apologies you were unaware of the £20 Pre-Authorisation Process we have within the hotel, Pre-authorising a guests credit/debit card upon arrival is a standard practise across most hotels worldwide. It also forms a part of Terms and Conditions which you must agree to in order to book a stay with us and signage is also displayed on our reception desk advising this. During our call you also mentioned the receptionist checking you in advised we were placing a hold on your card in the event you had any incidentals. I take on board your point and will ensure this is communicated in a better manner in future. Regarding the cleanliness of your room, I must admit I am perplexed regarding your comments as the hotel is normally praised in terms of cleanliness and our response to Covid-19 and the pandemic. We also undergo routine and random inspections from local environmental health and other professionals and to date there has been no concerns raised in relation to cleanliness. In response to your claims the hotel is "old" and "run down", we are a new build hotel having only completed the build in 2016 and opening mid June 2016 therefore would not consider ourselves old after having only welcomed our first guest 5 years ago. I ended the call as I don’t appreciate being shouted at or spoken to in the derogatory manner I was, the team and I are here to assist customers and we do not tolerate aggressive behaviour towards the team. Further to your comments, I would like to clarify it was myself you spoke to on the phone and I am not a member of the family which own or run the club. Kind Regards; William Hotel Manager

I booked an overnight as a surprise for my daughters 13th birthday. One of the main reasons I booked this hotel was because of the spa facilities. No where on the website did it say only over 16’s only but when we arrived we were told under 16’s we’re not permitted to use the jacuzzi which was very disappointing! We decided to make the most of it anyway and go to the pool for a swim which was a waste of time! Nothing relaxing about it, kids swimming lessons were taking place so the pool was overrun with kids splashing about and nowhere for us to actually swim! We went back to the room to have a relaxing night with some face masks and a movie which never happened. 7:30 hit and the DJ from the function below us started. The music was ridiculously loud we couldn’t concentrate on the movie! We got on with it and again made the most of our night. When we were finally able to fall sleep we were woken at 1am with the room next door having a domestic, shouting and screaming at each other! There was an adjoining door from our room to theirs which made my daughter terrified that the man was going to get in. We sat scared trying not to make a noise listening to the argument next door terrified for the girls well-being as she kept saying “Please leave me alone, don’t hit me!” This went on for a while before the man left the room. We were able to fall back asleep until he returned again shouting and banging on the wall. Eventually he we could hear him being sick and o assume falling asleep. If I hadn’t had a drink with my dinner I would have left the hotel and driven home. My daughter and I had a restless night after that not managing to have a proper sleep. When we got up in the morning we both went for a shower and whilst we were listening to the radio drying our hair the man began banging on the wall/door again shouting “Fu**ing shut up!” My daughter was terrified to leave the room incase he came out of his!.. All in all I didn’t pay over £100 for 1 night stay only to be sleep deprived, intimidated and my daughter having a nightmare when we thought we were going for a relaxing girls night. Complete waste of money!

Dear Jodie, Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. All guest feedback is important and helps us to provide a better experience for future guests. I believe that i did respond to your initial review on booking.com and as i stated then, had you contacted our nightshift team then they would have dealt with the disturbance in the next door room. Due to various reasons to do with health and safety, under 16s are not allowed in the spa area. If those rules do not suit you then I apologise but we are only looking out for the health and safety of young people. Regards Gil

We booked to stay here as a family and the catalogue of errors and the way they were dealt with must rate as a comedy of errors.
We arrived and decided to go to the pool and spa, one of the main reasons for our visit. Unfortunately the hotel had run out of towels so we had to go back and get the towels from our room and use these throughout our stay as there were no towels to be had throughout the hotel.
Be warned, go elsewhere for dinner unless you want to pay over the odds for very poor quality food ranging from undercooked pizza to burnt deserts.
I didn't ask for a discount but quietly spoke to the lovely supervisor on that evening just pointing out that things weren't great.
Come 2.30am our neighbouring guest decided it was timefor a room disco. Night porter twice tried to alert said guest by knocking on his door. I guess there was no reply as music continued on till after 4am.
The next morning still no towels. I was unfortunate enough to mention these issues to the hotel owner who makes Basil Fawlty look like mother Theresa. To be told that he had been in the business much longer than i had and he knew how guests should behave (i add that i didn't ask for a refund and am a 50+ female) and that i was clearly "one of those type of guests".
I didn't get to ask why the rooms were so hot (no air conditioning and cover where air conditioning should be hanging off) or mention the glass on the carpets.
Paid for 3 nights, and left after 1 with owner refusing to refund for booked night that we didn't stay. I cannot reiterate enough that you avoid this place not because of the staff, who were lovely but because of the owner who must be one of the most ignorant men i have ever come across.

We stayed here for two nights before and after our wedding. The executive suite was perfect and included everything we needed and more. The bathroom was huge with a massive tub and walk in shower and the bed was comfortable.
The breakfasts were amazing with a freshly cooked hot breakfast to order and a great selection of fruits and juices.
The staff here make all the difference. We asked about returning quite late on the night of our wedding and were assured this would be okay. When we came back after our wedding we were greeted by the night porter who congratulated us and provided me with a vase for my bouquet. We then went to our room which had been serviced while we were out and found towel swans, rose petals, chocolates and a card wishing us well as husband and wife. This was such a lovely surprise and helped us to end a fantastic day with happiness.
I cannot recommend this hotel enough. Thankfully we live locally and will be back.

We booked two rooms to stay over the Christmas period at this hotel and were disappointed overall with our experience.
We booked this hotel it as it is advertised as a Country Club Hotel & Spa but country it certainly isn’t and the spa was closed early each day of our 4 day visit as well as the gym being closed entirely for our stay. None of this was mentioned when we booked.
We had made a reservation at Michael’s restaurant for our Christmas Eve dinner but it was the most depressing of experiences, with undressed tables and minimalist cheap Christmas decor that look like it was sourced out of ‘Poundland’. We were originally given a tiny 3ft square table which was below an air vent which was blasting out cold air and in fact the whole restaurant was freezing cold every time we visited for breakfast, lunch or evening meals.
The food was mediocre and more roadside cafe than fine dining and the awful loud live music didn’t help the overall experience.
On the plus side the restaurant staff we very friendly and helpful.
The limited spa that we got to try was extremely busy and the whole place felt and looked like it had seen better days and was in desperate need of a refurb.
The rooms are nicely decorated though very dark however, and as many other guests have complained about and commented, there is a bright green (security/fire) light that is permanently on inside the room at the bedroom door and we found it annoying and difficult to sleep with. The hotel front desk have a well rehearsed line that ‘it’s a fire requirement’ however in all my years I’ve never experienced this in any hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Additionally, there are extractor fans in the bathroom which NEVER switch off and are very loud and add to a disturbed sleep - even with the bathroom door closed.
I expect that both the safety light and the fan issues are due to poor wiring and neither have be permanently on, though the hotel will try to convince you it’s a legal requirement and not their fault.
If they are so concerned about fire safety they should take a look at the hairdryer they provide as ours smelled and sounded like it was go going to burst into flames and not only was the filter blocked with a years worth of dust but also the out-of-date fire/electrical regulation sticker showed it as an iron.
Finally, on our last day there was no hot water in the hotel for over 10 hours. We were never contacted by the front desk to inform us of the issue but when I enquired all they said was that they were working on it.
To summarize, their website is more appealing than the actual experience and I would say that we would have been far better dining out at the many good restaurants in the local area.

Dear Roving, I am indeed sorry that you felt your experience was not up to the usual Parklands standard and i will indeed pass on all your comments to the Food and Beverage manager as all feedback helps us to improve our service. AS our extraction system is centralised, we cannot switch it off at any time and on most occasions we do find that if the bathroom door is closed, it does not disturb sleep but obviously this was not the case with yourself and for that I apologise. With regards to the 'Green Light', for new build hotels, Building Standards insist that this is incorporated in every room and we did indeed have no choice in that matter. I do wish that you had let us know about the issue with the hairdryer and we would happily of replaced it with a new one. Most issues if reported to reception can be rectified within a short period of time and we are happy to help. We do hope that you make a return visit to experience our normally high standards. Regards Gil

Breakfast both cooked and pastries, cereal, fruit, yoghurt etc
Hi there is a lovely restaurant about a 10 minute walk away (max) Called LL Italiano on Ayr Road
We were regular customers of Parklands.Several of us have membership to the gym.
We always played a non gambling game in the hotel bar at least once a week.
The owner, was well intoxinated and very dunk with a group of associates and was verbally rude to us and accused us of gambling, which certianly was not and never the case.
He saw the lads hand one of us £2 each to cover costs of chocolates given to a very friendly team of bar staff for xmas..
He shouted and verbally abused us publicly (which is an offence) He banned us from club.
On several occassions we aked for an apology, which on all requestd he ignored.
The owner Mr Modlin is extremly rude and arrogant horrible person. He has lost our custom, in which will result in all of us unable to support his business. One of my colleagues from a well known company regulary used hotel for a group of employees which averaged 25 rooms per year, will not let any employees stay at this diabolical managed hotel.
