I realize this isn't a five-star hotel, and that's not what I was looking for. I was on a cross-country trip, and I was just looking for a clean, affordable, decent place to sleep. I would arrive late, and leave early the next morning. I didn't need a fitness center or 24-hour room service. I arrived at this hotel at about 10 p.m., without a reservation, and the staff was friendly, professional, helpful and accommodating, and my room looked very nice. It seemed like a clean, affordable, decent place to sleep. (Arrived 8/31/2021, Room 215) I can't say for a fact that my room had bedbugs since I didn't actually see any, but I woke up the next morning with dozens of itchy red bumps on my lower legs. The itching woke me up at about 4:30 a.m., with me clawing at my legs. I got into the shower and washed my legs, and that relieved some of the itching. (I don't usually travel with itch-relief cream. I will from now on.) I was still tired, but I wouldn't get back into that bed, so I tried to sleep in a chair for the next couple of hours. On a trip like this, I usually don't make reservations, since I don't have a set schedule or itinerary. I drive until I get tired, then look for a place to stay. If I'm planning to spend several days in a destination, I'll research and read the reviews before picking a hotel. Had I done that in this case, I would have seen the previous post about bedbugs. Three days later, even with lots of applications of itch-relief creams and ointments, my legs are still itching. Despite the friendly staff and affordable prices, I definitely do not recommend staying at this property. I contacted Choice Hotels management to inform them of my experience. After a few likely computer-generated emails, I was told that they could not refund my room charge (or the cost of the medications I purchased to treat the bedbug bites), but they could offer me points if I joined their customer loyalty program. I told them that I was not interested in joining their customer loyalty program (and providing them with even more personal information), as I would never be staying at one of their properties again.…
