From owners welcoming smile, Brigitte, made sure all was good. I really like when the property owner is available and involved, it makes things just go so much better.
The bungalows are as advertised, steps from the very quiet beach with perfect swimming/floating enjoying the warm water. The bungalows are clean well taken care of with all the basic self catering needs. A quiet place to do your own thing. we loved our stay.
Notes: You will need a car. The resort is a distance from most things. The Hilton is a 150 meter walk down the beach for pretty expensive meals if you want. Fruit stands and basic food need are 5-10 minutes by car.

The good snorkeling is just past the little reef if your a confident swimmer.

You can't take the lounge chairs down to the beach due to turtle activity and high tides will take them away.

When we come back, we will stay here again.

Life in our beautiful surroundings was tranquil. From our chalet it took 30 paces to the beach. Breakfast was eaten on the patio watching the sea glisten in the sunshine, bliss.

This was our fifth visit. We were ready to chill out in paradise. The chalet is well equipped, comfortable, well maintained. No bed making or cleaning leaving us to cook and clear away and enjoy ourselves. The fridge/freezer makes life a lot easier. Want a coconut? Just ask. We bring basic foods for the first few days. Not far along the road is a handy shop. Up the hill, either by bus or car are several supermarkets. Or, walk along the beach when the local fishermen arrive later in the day.

Sun loungers with comfortable cushions can be pulled towards the beach to shade under the Takamaka trees. It’s a joy to snorkel here and shower once back on grass level.

We moved here after 5 days in a hotel, which was lovely, but were made aware the island was in lockdown before we left. We were a little concerned but bought everything we needed the day after arriving. We hired a car for a few days to shop and explore.

We had only been here for 4 days when Brigitte informed us how conditions had rapidly changed regarding the Corona Virus and our flight home had been cancelled and brought forward. We’re grateful for all she did in helping, from keeping us in touch with our daughter and liaising with Gary at Creole Travel, in getting us on a flight home. Plus checking we had sufficient food, luckily we did. We loved our holiday here and will return.

It certainly was a holiday not be forgotten with world events rapidly changing. But we do look forward to welcoming you back very soon to complete your holiday and hopefully snorkel all day long once again. Stay well and healthy.

Just spent 2 weeks mainly in Mahe, 3 days on La Digue. Stayed at Chalets Anse Forbans in the SE of Mahe. accomodation fine, on beach with good snorkelling 2-3hrs either side if high tide. Not good for Eating, nearest restaurant about 4 miles, Chez Bastiste ot Plantation club. Being there over holiday period meant that there was not much selection in shops. Had to hire car. Everywhere took Euros and pounds.
On La Digue stayed at Domaine de la orangerie. excellent small hotel. Lovely accomaodation and breakfast on verandah.

We had a wonderful time in the Seychelles, first we stayed at La Residence then went to Chalet Forbans where we had been in 2002.
Chalet Forbans is a beautiful location but the owners are very bossy. On arrival instead of showing you to your room to relax they take you through a long drawn out booking in procedure where your credit card and signature is taken several times.
If you like being in the Headmasters office this is the place for you.
Accommodation very good.
Don't break anything unless you want to pay for it. Very petty we broke a glass and was billed for it.

It is truely a magnificent setting. We have young children and there was plenty of grass for them to run around on.
It is however a long way from any restaurant or supermarket, so you will need to hire a car.
If you have young children the sea may be a bit rough, but there is a swimming pool at the plantation hotel which they allowed us to use.
The owners are friendly and are an abundence of knowledge. However, beware of the wicked old mum, she still has her South African hospitality ingrained.
Summary - If you are going to want a pool, restaurants and diving then this isn't the place. If your prepared to drive (to the supermarket) and want isolation then this is it.

Traveling with two young kids (4 yr old and 18 month old) limited us a bit as some of the nicer hotels didn't allow children or they were too expensive to consider.

The Chalets offered a very relaxing holiday and great time for all. We stayed in the two bedroom chalet (there are two available) which was set back from the beach and very private. The chalet itself was well kept and quite a good size for the 4 of us. They nicely provided us with a crib and high chair, and Brigitte was always there to accomodate our many questions or suggest activities to do.

The only downside of the chalets was the lack of AC in the family area. The weather there is quite hot and very humid so it was a bit toasty eating dinner. Thankfully we did have AC in the bedrooms. It would have been nice too if the chalets had a pool as well as a children's pool. Our youngest wasn't a huge fan of the beach so a baby pool to cool off in would have been nice.

We did hire a car which is essential. Relying on the buses would be tough especially traveling with kids. We used City Car who delivered the car to us and picked it up after we left. The beach there is great for kids - not rough at all and nice soft sand. Plus, it was only about 30 steps away from our chalet.

The owners of the chalets provided complimentary milk, eggs, bread, water, two sodas, small jelly and tea for our first night, but we hit the grocery store with our cab on the way in from the airport. I would suggest for those traveling with young kids that you bring some of their favorite foods, diapers and swimmy diapers. The little stores in most of the towns don't have the typical foods that little ones like, so we brought packaged oatmeal, snack bars, etc. They don't have fresh milk there, only long life milk or milk powder, and most of the groceries we needed we had to drive to SupaSave in Victoria. You can get diapers up in Victoria but it is about a 30 min drive up there from the chalets and if you don't have a car the first day you might be out of luck. I would also recommend bringing your own bug repellent as it isn't easy to find there.

Most places did take rupees, and we were able to charge as well. We did come with a lot of US dollars which we changed into rupees with various people at a much higher rate than given by the banks. The chalets can arrange to have a personal chef cook you a traditional creole dinner which we did - excellent meal and very reasonable price wise.

If you want a fun, relaxing, and less expensive visit to the Seychelles, I would definitely recommend going the self-catering route, and the Chalets de Anse Forbans is a good choice.

The Chalets are at the southeast coast of Mahe, located 30 Minutes by car from Victoria. Its a very remote area and you will definitely need a car, to get to the supermarket (unless you want to walk 25 minutes up a hill). The car can be hired right at the Chalets for 40 Euros (other places rent out for less, so you might want to compare prices). The Chalets are okay, but compared to other places, they are much too expensive. The promotional pictures must have been made by a very, good photographer.... the beach and the houses are by far not as pretty as they look on the pictures. The estate is close to the street and consists mainly of a lot of grass, a couple of chalets and a parking lot. There are palm trees at the beach, of course. The chalets are okay, but not great. The water didn’t get hot. WiFi only works in front of the office (considering the mosquitoes, you don’t want to sit there at night). The beach is very, very, narrow and most of the time you can´t lay down there. There´s also a riff with a lot of sea urchins close to the beach, so swimming without shoes or goggles is not recommended. The service was very disappointing: when we arrived, there was nobody at the office. The owners left a note at the door with a telephone number. Though calling from a foreign cell is quite expensive, we called... but nobody answered. We even walked to the owners private house, but nobody opened.... In the end we had to wait more then one hour, outside in the heat, until we were able to check in. Very annoying, especially if you pay 160 Euros a day.... At least, there was one nice thing: There were water, eggs, tee, coffee, bread and butter in the fridge upon arrival. Still - there are by far prettier places at better locations for half the price on Mahe, so I would rather not book there again.

Response from Forbans, Owner at Chalets D'Anse Forbans
Responded 20 Jun 2011
Dear Regilein We are rather disappointed with your review of Chalets d’ Anse Forbans and we feel that your comments have been made without any merit. For the benefit of our future guests we would like to clarify the false statements made in your review. Your booking was made via an agent and not directly with Chalets d’ Anse Forbans. As a result we cannot be held responsible and nor can we dictate the price an agent decides to charge to their clients for their services. It is at your discretion to search the local market and to look for the best value offered or else book directly with us. Our direct rates are very competitive. You confirmed via email (16/05/2011) of your arrival date, flight and time at Chalets d’ Anse Forbans and we had arranged to meet you and welcome you to the Chalets. It was unfortunate however that you missed your original flight due to your late arrival at the airport in Germany and were subsequently re-booked on an alternative flight. Your new flight information was not communicated by yourself to the Management of Chalets d’ Anse Forbans. When you did not arrive at the Chalets d’ Anse Forbans some 5 hours after your original confirmed arrival time we contacted your local Seychelles agent to confirm your whereabouts. Your local Seychelles agent informed us that you where a NO SHOW on the flight and they would be in contact with us once they had established your whereabouts. This lack of communication on your part resulted in there being no one to welcome you to the Chalets and as previously discussed why did you not make contact with us when you had your transit via Dubai. We pride ourselves on our service to our clients and feel your comment re: our service is not justified. We may remind you that we contacted our personal doctor to see you when you did not feel well, we organised all your taxi trips, we organised your transfer on Cat Coco and in turn assisted you with local knowledge of surf spots, places to eat, and things to do etc... You also had a daily visit from the owner of the Chalets to check on your personal health. All this should actually be handled by your local Seychelles Agent. Having said that, we are always here to assist our clients and be of service where possible. In relation to your WIFI comment this is a free service and you never communicated with us you were having difficulties. We have re- checked the access from your chalet and confirm you are able to get WIFI from this chalet bedroom. We are pleased however that you did appreciate the starter food hamper that we provide for all our guests knowing that most of our clients have just stepped off a long haul flight. We trust that the above response will clarify any misconceptions to our future guests. Regards, Daphne

Always wanted to go to the Seychelles and I wasn't disappointed for one minute. The quiet location the the Sout East coast was perfect.

The chalets were better than I thought they would be, cleaned every day and fresh linen every day, more than enough room for 4 adults.

The owners would do anything they could for you, they answered all our questions, including history lessons, set us off in the right direction, booked our car etc etc.

The staff were wonderful too the Seyshellois people are lovely people. The gardener would crack open the coconuts for so you could drink the milk, what a perfect way to start your day sitting on the beach.

We were right on the beach, it was glorious, sitting with your head under the coconut trees. Apparently it is one of the best beaches on the Island for snorkling, it certainly lived up to expectations. The water was so clear and warm it was like stepping into a giant bath.

The only trouble with the sea in the Indian Ocean is, it has spoilt me, the Costas can never measure up to that. Having said that we went to a couple of beaches where the hotels were and the sea was quite rough infact, it was dangerous, but that has something to do with the time of year and the trade winds. So all in all we were very lucky.

You do need a car to get around if only to get your shopping and going out for a meal. Driving around the Island is a must, it is so beautiful, every turn in the road, you see a little section of deserted beach, I wanted to jump out of the car at every turn.

My 2 sons went diving for most of the holidays, the dive centre would pick you up and drop you off at your accomodation. They had a really good experience.

I read in a book that self catering is the way to experience the Islands properly and I truly believe that, we met some lovely people. Even the guy who owned the tin shack that was called a shop was a pleasure to meet, I loved going to his "shop" just for the experience.

We went by plane to Praslin and La Digue, if your a beach lover don't miss La Digue.

All in all a perfect holiday destination for us.

We stayed at the Chalets in July 2009 for two weeks. We were four family members and we stayed in one of the double chalets but we got both halves of it and so we had the whole chalet to ourselves.

We were a bit worried before getting there because of all the mixed/lack of reviews and we didn't really know what to expect. When we arrived there after driving all the way from the airport (and during the days after that) we realized that these chalets have the best placement of all self catering accommodation on the island. All of the other chalets are across the road from the sea or far away from it. These ones are on their own beach (there is nothing else on that part of the beach so it's like having a private beach).

The private fenced area around the chalets is beautiful and the garden is huge and very well kept. There are full grown trees and grass and flowers and birds everywhere around the chalets.

When we arrived, Daphne welcomed us and even though we were there early we checked in immediately and we went to our chalet. We had complementary food for our first day until we got to do some shopping. Daphne and her family (Brigitte and Pierre thank you!!) were all very friendly to us and advised us about everything they even booked our boat trips for us. They were extremely polite and nice.

The chalets very clean and big and they had everything inside (except a TV which we wanted to avoid using anyway). They looked like they were recently renovated and painted and the furniture looked new as well. In the kitchen there was everything we needed for cooking including kettle, toaster, and all utensils. We also rented a barbecue from the chalets and cooked food a couple of times. The staff (cleaning staff, gardeners, and security) were very polite as well and were always smiling. Our chalet was cleaned daily and got new towels every morning.

The chalets are not crowded there is a lot of space between them and they all have sunbeds outside and flowers around them. But you must be very careful when you go to the beach not to leave anything there because in the evening the there are bigger waves which sometimes cover the whole beach. The sea in front of the Chalets was great most of the days, sometimes it was a bit too rough to swim in but on most days we were driving around the island in our rental car and it was very easy to find another beach not far away where it was sunny and the sea was calm.

Overall we are extremely pleased with the chalets so much that we are planning to go back this summer. It was like our private paradise. Everything was perfect and above our expectations. It is definitely a good value accommodation. In comparison to all the extremely overpriced posh hotels on the island, i believe that the chalets are not as posh but it's a great place to relax because it's so beautiful and quiet and it's quite cheap to eat out at restaurants so we definitely saved a lot of money and had a great family time.

I would recommend the chalets to anyone going to visit the Seychelles as top quality and value for the money.

Also some advise for the people going there for the first time and staying at a self-catering place: the shops there don't have most of the brands you probably are used to buying and are very limited so if you need something like specific baby milk or other important things then bring some with you. Also in order to make the most out of your stay i would definitely recommend hiring a car and going around the island to see all the beaches (don't forget to visit the Jardin du Roi). Also if you're staying in that part of the island for eating out i would recommend the Eclipse Restaurant, the Anchor Cafe, and Kaz Kreol. They have very good food at very good prices compared to the hotels which are usually overpriced.

The island in general was beautiful and nature was amazing. People were generally friendly and the service we got was very good everywhere we went. We were very pleased and glad that we decided to visit the Seychelles (and stay at the Chalets D'Anse Forbans). We'll definitely go back soon.

We spent four weeks in January in the Seychelles as a once in a lifetime trip with our 1 and 3 year old children (quite brave!).
We spent a fortnight at this lovely spot!
The chalet is spotless, cleaned to perfection daily. Thank you!!
We stayed in number 15 a 2 bed chalet and it was very spacious. They are newly refurbished and very nice. Kitchen a little underequipped. I have never seen so many empty kitchen cupboards but the basics are there - pans, plates, glasses, cups and cutlery.
The gardens are stunning and the beach at this time of year is gorgeous - very sheltered and perfect for swimming (worth checking this if going at another time of year). The beach is very quiet - sometimes we even had it to ourselves! Loungers are not allowed due to the turtles so many people lie on their loungers in the garden not the beach.
Due to lack of breeze it was very hot and it's worth noting that only the bedrooms are air conditioned. The main kitchen has fans and could get very warm. Much of the time it was too hot to eat on the patio area but when it was cooler it was lovely.
The family who run it are absolutely lovely. They were very concerned when I was unwell and kept checking on me. They are a fount of knowledge and recommended so many places to explore and places to eat out at too. Invaluable.
The gardeners are very friendly and cut coconuts for us.
Nature lovers paradise - fruit bats, geckos, crabs, birds eg Fodie, snorkelling. bright stars at night. Simply beautiful!
Lovely solid wood cot supplied. High chair and baby bath too.
No TV - worth noting.
There really is only the beach. I know that may sound stupid but as it's so hot time at the beach/ in the sea has to be limited and there really is nothing else. No ice creams/ shop to walk to etc. It was hard work with small children at times. Even going out in the car was so hot. Once we got used to it we explored more but the winding roads with sheer drops are terrifying at first. The location is a great base for exploring the island away from the crowds.
Most other guests are couples seeking a quiet time. Not a problem but we were very happy when another family arrived.
We brought our own indoor and outdoor toys and bucket and spade etc. Thank goodness as it was hard to find. I went to 6 beach shops before I even found a ball for the children to play with! My suggestion would be for a collection of buckets, balls, simple toys to be stocked centrally.
Be aware that eating out is expensive. 3 simple portions of fish and chips plus a bottle of water will set you back £50 at least. Whether at a beach shack, a restaurant or the Hilton!
Self catering is not straightforward with kids. No big supermarket, just lots of little shops in different directions all selling different things. Fresh fruit and veg is extortionate apart from the bananas at the side of the road. The majority of food is imported and very expensive. We ate pasta and banana split most days!
During our stay wifi became available in the rooms.
All in all I would definitely recommend but bring supplies with you!!

Ciao!
