Firstly I have to say what a great place and excellent value for money. There are a couple of things that we felt did let them down badly however and would not take a lot of effort to fix. On arrival (after an 8 hour drive) we found that the desk was not manned. We followed the instruction on the notice to press the buzzer for the manager, no response. Called the number then on the board and had to wait almost 10 minutes for the person to appear to check us in. Not the best reception after a long drive but we went over to the pub for food which was excellent. After an 8 hour drive we arrived to an unmanned desk. Called the number on the board and had to wait 10 minutes before someone arrived. I remember the time specifically as we had booked a table in the restaurant which we were then late for. I was then awoken at 5.10am (our room was at the front of the hotel) by the catering/laundry truck driver trundling a trolley back and forth between the pub and the van. Considering we had to be up at 8am to get ready for a funeral was not great. The thing that bothered us the most was, when we returned from the funeral at 10.50am we could not get into the premises with our keycards. Purely by chance the Celebrant who had attended the funeral happened to be staying too and his wife (who was still in their room) managed to come downstairs and let me in while my husband was told by the contact number to go over to the pub for assistance! The cleaning staff was in the room next to mine and very kindly allowed me access. I explained that my keycard wasn’t working and I was told that they hotel quite often cuts the keycard access to rooms off before 11am (even though checkout is 11am). More annoying was the fact that we were booked in for a second night and had to go through this inconvenience (especially right after a funeral) Perhaps these suggestions might help save visitors time and inconvenience. It might be an idea to add that if the desk isn’t manned or if there are any issues to go over to the pub. As the whole time we were there, nobody was ever on reception and when calling the number on the board they said to go over to the pub. It would save a wasted phone call. 2. Do not cut off keycard access prior to the 11am checkout time, and certainly not when visitors are booked in for more than one evening. I hope this response is taken as constructive criticism as otherwise our stay was absolutely fine. The staff over in the pub were first class fortunately.

At this time of Covid, the staff have been excellent, keeping to the rules of the day, well done staff, more to follow as the days go on, in the mean time breakfast in the Pub, full English fry up, well worth the extra pound to get the larger one. Rooms very clean, good bed, well done. I must say everything has been spotless, my god they must have gone around every nook and cranny when they cleaned the rooms and pub. complaints: Lamb curry, it was very nice, but just had a couple of small pieces of lamb, which was a shame, as it was very nice, It might have been a one off. Wife didn’t like the bed or the pillows, says bed was hard (I thought was ok) pillows lumpy, that’s it.

Advanced booking of 7 for a lunch time girls catch up in what is a well established and pre covid frequented restaurant just outside Lincoln. We chose woodcocks thinking of size of beer garden and size of restaurant allowing room for social distancing. Food was good. 2 4 1 offers on main courses so generally can’t go wrong plus we all work for NHS so added little discount. Nobody had any complaints at all re lunch meals which ranged from curry to lasagne. All hot. Tasty. Service was prompt. Not too long to wait as restaurant was busy. Waiter was also pleasant and polite plus attentive throughout our stay in establishment. Having said all this I do have a massive concern with social distancing. This wasn’t happening at all. The section we were seated in was also occupied by a table containing a party of at least 15 people and another table to the side of us. The large party was so close you could walk between the two chairs just and that was it. Just like it used to be prior to any Covid situation. As we are all active workers of the NHS we looking around to see if we could be moved before we asked a member of staff but there was nowhere. So we decided to put up and shut up. Also the only hand sanitizers I saw available for use was outside the toilets. The toilets should be one in one out but again this was not the case. Please woodcocks look at this. Your food and venue is great. Your staff are great.
