Lovely staff, beautiful building, great food and catered very well for gluten and dairy intolerances with minimal fuss. Will definitely be back. Plus very handy for a stroll down the Huddersfield canal or up into Saddleworth moors. Nice children's play area and duck pond within five minutes walk too.

Went to the pub quiz at the Gate Inn, on a Monday night, we won the quiz and we were awarded with a £25 food voucher to use with in three weeks... We used the voucher last Monday night, I had the beef and ale pie, with mash and vegetables, which was very nice. The pastry on the pie was...

My partner and l stayed for two nights under difficult circumstances to attend a family funeral. Tim and Vikki were both very sensitive and caring and looked after us brilliantly. Our room was very clean and extremely comfortable. We ate well at The Gate Inn l particularly enjoyed my lamb curry and my partner was impressed with his "juicy lucy...

We popped in here as we're thinking of moving to Saddleworth and wanted to sample some local fare . We had a fabulous pub style meal - I had the Sunday roast- delicious Yorkshire pudding! My husband had fish and chips which was lovely. We then shared a sticky toffee pudd which was also lovely . I was going to...

Booked to go for Sunday lunch at the Gate as a family (of 4) treat. I had high hopes for the place as the new owners look to be doing a great job and really wish them the best of luck making the pub a success. There was only one meat option and a not too inspiring kids menu, looks...

Many thanks for your review marcusarmo. I'm sorry you were not 100% satisfied with your meal, but thanks for wishing us luck and noticing the good work we are doing. Our menu does include VAT, it's just shown separately on the bill for anyone who needs a VAT invoice. It's a shame you didn't mention the discount when you were...

We were lucky enough to be able to book a room at The Gate for Boxing Day night....and how lucky we were! We were visiting family nearby and, happily, Vikki had a vacancy for a double room....including our (very well behaved Scottie Dog). The room was superb.....plenty of cupboard space, beautiful top quality fittings and towels in the bathroom and,...

My family and I had a wonderful week-end at The Gate - previously known as the Hanging Gate. The hosts, Vikky and Tim were very friendly and helpful. The Inn itself was pleasant and quaint. The rooms we had were well presented, very clean and warm. The breakfast basket was very enjoyable. The only downside was the wifi. Unfortunately, your...

Many thanks janehogarth for your lovely review. Apologies for the Wifi, as this is such an old building the signal can struggle to get through the walls. We are working on it & hopefully you'll visit us again soon. Kind Regards, Vikki

Called in for tea expecting the usual pub grub but instead was presented with the best steak and ale pie I have ever had. The pastry was exceptional with a cheese crust and the filling was delicious, chunks of tender steak with mushrooms and gravy. Staff are welcoming and best of all the pub is dog friendly. Will definitely be returning...

Many thanks for your review Cathy s. Needless to say the chef now wants a pay rise! He also claims his chilli is the best in Saddleworth.... so perhaps on your next visit he can wow you with that too! Hope to see you soon, Kindest Regards Tim & Vikki

Breakfast was very disappointing didn't expect full English but would have expected pack of jam and butter to go with the plain croissant . No pain au chocolat as advertised. Porridge ok but would have liked some sugar to sprinkle on top rather than stir in a sugar lump. The previous evening we had been to an event at the...

We visited the Gate Inn today for a pub lunch as it was near in location to home and I did not want to cook! This a typical pub lunch experience, no frills, and no pretensions. Having said that, the food we had was very nice indeed. My husband had the polenta chicken wings for a starter. He said they...
