We offer bed and breakfast in Brightwell cum Sotwell. Our home, Hope Cottage, is an 18th century cottage situated down a peaceful lane in a delightfully unspoilt Oxfordshire village. One of our rooms is a quirky Shepherds’s hut which is really comfortable with en suite shower, toilet and sink and wood burner for cooler times. Thatched cottages and country views abound. From the house there are many lovely walks taking in the Thames path, the Ridgeway and Wittenham Clumps to name just a few. The village itself is the home of the Island Farm Donkey Sanctuary and the world famous Bach Centre for herbal and flower remedies. We are within an hours drive from the Cotswolds, London, Bath, Oxford, castles, gardens, historic houses, churches - The world (or our area of the South east of England at least) is your oyster. . After a busy day exploring the area you are welcome to relax and hopefully catch a glorious sunset from our conservatory or west facing terrace.

I stayed in the Shepherd's Hut for 5 nights with my wife - we were on a Bach Flower Course - for which Hope Cottage is very conveniently situated. It was a great stay. The Shepherd's Hut is very comfortable and the log burner makes for a cosy stay. Breakfast is great too! Strongly recommended!

Beautiful gardens, home and hosts! I had the most delightful time at Hope Cottage! Both Sue and Bob were lovely, as was breakfast each morning. I stayed in the Shepherd’s Hut with French doors opening out to spring blossoms and fields of barley. Footpaths leading from the cottage take you throughout the village, community gardens, orchards, & more. After 7 days and nights at Hope Cottage, it felt like a home I did not want to leave. Thank you, Bob and Sue, for all your efforts to provide lovely accommodations!

Totally faultless experience. Best Airbnb we’ve ever stayed in. Such a relaxing way to spend a few days in a unique setting. The breakfast each morning is such a nice touch. And sitting outside admiring the views each evening was spectacular. Definitely recommend. Thanks so much for having us.

We had a lovely 2 night stay here. Sue and Bob are very welcoming hosts, their breakfast is truly superb and you look out onto their attractive garden and green fields. The shepherd's hut is warm, quiet and comfortable with en-suite shower room - all you need for a cosy idyll. The village is beautiful and this is a great place from which to explore the Oxfordshire countryside and all the historic sights.

I stayed here for one night while visiting family in the area. Such a treat! The traditional style shepherds hut was very comfortable with welcoming tea and coffee. The excellent shower room was on a par with that in a good hotel. I had been a bit worried about being cold, as th weather wasn’t great, but the woodburner was easy to light and kept me nice and warm. The breakfast was excellent I think that the Shepherds Hut would be a wonderful romantic retreat.
