Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Fitzroy is probably the best in Gokyo, from what we could see. The rooms have comfortable beds, and they serve a variety of food and drinks in the kitchen.

While the rooms are super small, and the shower is trickle of warm water: the fact that we could have these comforts at 16000 feet, with a private bathroom, made this a wonderful 2 night stay: when compared with other inns in the everest region which are extremely basic.

Our room had a view of the Gokyo lakes on one side and Cho Oyu mountain on the other, which was simply spectacular when we woke up in the mornings, or when we returned to our room around 3pm and it was too cold to venture out. Make sure you ask for a view if you care about it.

My partner and I spent 4 nights in Gokyo! We initially stayed at another newer hotel literally right by the lake, however after 2 nights we really were not feeling the vibe and after stumbling upon the Fitzroy Inn Bakery, we moved to Fitzroy Inn. And we seriously noticed the tremendous difference in hospitality. Tasi (the main man who runs Fitzroy) was incredibly warm and welcoming! He treated everyone with respect and care (importantly our guide), and was very knowledgeable about the area. It is also nice to know that he is from the Gokyo area itself and was born in the village!

The restaurant food was seriously the BEST we had on our entire 14 day trek (not to mention really good portions) and it was surprisingly not overpriced, unlike the initial Thanka Inn that we stayed at.

The rooms are warm, clean and cozy. The floors are carpeted, which trust me is important when getting changed in the chilly mountains. The hot shower is good quality and runs on gas.

Finally, the bakery. You must go to the Fitzroy Bakery even if you are not staying there! The cakes are just like home, the breads make great snacks for lunch when you are up on Gokyo Ri, and the coffees are spot on. And it has a very warm heater and an exceptional view. Also a great place to chat to other trekkers and have a good time.

Big and warm thank you to Tasi.

And I forgot to mention they have a resident puppy who comes and goes in the warm living area.

Stayed here with my husband about 2 weeks ago during a recent trek to Gokyo. Great lodge! We had checked out a couple other lodges in Gokyo before choosing the Fitzroy Inn, and we were very happy with our choice. We stayed in a room with an attached bathroom which had a clean western toilet, a working sink with running water, and a solar heated shower that wasn't working yet because it was early in the season (pipes were still frozen). But, we were allowed to use the common shower which was gas-heated -- the hot shower felt amazing after days of trekking and we later found out it was the only working hot shower in Gokyo at that point in the season (March). The rooms were clean. The dining room was comfortable and warm in the evenings. There is an attached bakery with delicious desserts and an espresso machine. The quality of the food was good -- we even enjoyed the Western dishes like pasta with a mushroom and tomato sauce, which was much better than some of the pasta dishes we tried at other points on the trek, and was a nice break from ordering dal bhat every night. Finally, my last compliment goes to the owner, Tashi -- he was one of the nicest and friendliest lodge owners we met on our 3 week trip! He's done a great job with the lodge and really puts in the effort to make all his customers happy.

Be very careful to check your bill when you leave. I have been wrongly and very highly overcharged. I asked to go through the bill together to see what could perhaps have been a misunderstanding (I keep a diary with all the very details of my hikes as well as the places where I stay with my daily expenses to pass it to my trekker friends). Friendliness gone in a second, replaced by a nasty attitude. I tried to make my point, knowing that mistakes are human (i won't mind or bother for a few hundreds rupees mistake, but I am less flexible i guess for one of few thousands). Anyway, I had such a weird uneasy feeling that I just pay what they wanted, and off I went decided that my day won't be spoilt. While chatting with my porter about it, he told me he wasn't surprised, saying that it is one of the worst lodge for porters according to his experience except for those who are family related to the guy who own the place. He felt he was ill-treated and charged as much as us foreigners for his food. Bad experience for all of us.... even though we all agreed that the dining area is a great place to meet, eat, and be warm.

First lodge we felt catered to the clients as much as they do to our guides. We actually felt truly welcome and not like a money transaction for once on the trek!!

Free welcome drinks, hot water and showers in the rooms, view of the lake, decent food, hot towels at dinner, very friendly staff, and reasonably priced compared to neighboring lodges... what's not to love!!

To top it all off, it was the warmest lodge because our room had the pipe from the stove running through it. Great for drying laundry and staying warm and cozy in the evenings in your room. Ask for the room with the pipe if you can get it ;)

Anywhere else, I would say that this isn’t a hotel, but a birdhouse, built of plywood. But when you get past all that, when you find your way there..that’s when you realize what real comfort is. This is a genuine 5 star establishment! There’s even ... hot water! And the chef offers you apple pie...What bliss! Paradise!

We spent 12 days trekking to EBC and Gokyo and the Fitzroy Inn was my favorite spot. The owner, Chhiring Tasi Sherpa, is fantastic! He was extremely accommodating and kind from the start. He was always willing to help and answer any questions we had. He also speaks like 6 languages. The staff is always mopping and cleaning the dining area, by far the most attentive staff we came across. The food is also different from all the other tea houses, they offer unique dinner options (the gnocchi was very good) and have a tasty bakery as well with a view of the lake that can't be beat. On top of all this, the beds were the most comfortable mattresses on the trail. Definitely the place to stay in Gokyo!

Fitzroy Inn feels like heaven especially after a long hike. Half the rooms come with amazing lake view. Food is simply awesome and portion sizes are big so higher food cost is truly justified.

The only challenge is that when sun doesn't come out, attached bathrooms will not get hot water and you can't charge your phones - so paying 5 times the tariff of common room is not justified.

My advice - stay in attached rooms only in sunny weather and choose lake view rooms. Else choose common rooms and pay for hot shower and charging.

I stayed in this lodge for one night, before we continued ascending to the gokyo peak and leaving towards namche bazar later on. The stay was surprisingly comfortable concidering the altitude and remoteness of this location. The rooms are couzy and the dinning-area big, warm and comfortable. The service is great, very friendly and welcoming. They speak perfect english and as I heard also french. The food-choices of the menu are compared to other lodges really
plentyfull, the portions big. I recommend this lodge, due to the fact that it was one of the best I stayed in during my 12-days trip in the region
