Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Dedza is a good place to break the journey between Majete and Lilongwe. Our room was large but basic. It had a kettle, fridge and some tea and coffee making provisions, but only one cup! There was only one tap in the sink and sometimes it ran hot and sometimes cold. Our room did not have the advertised electric mosquito killer, however we didn’t have a problem with mosquitoes. Alexander organised and took us on good tours of the Chongoni Rock Art and of the pottery. He also organised for us to visit Mpalale village and watch traditional dancing, which was amazing and one of the highlights of our holiday. The food in the restaurant was of mixed quality, some very good (especially the veggie lasagne, the chicken kebabs and the cheesecake) and some okay.

Our room here was one of a block of 6. It was quite large, had a good shower en suite, a fridge and a small kitchen. The beds were comfortable and it was very pleasant to sit on the private verandah and watch a beautiful sunset. The lodge also has very pleasant gardens which were great to stroll in. We had an excellent meal in the evening - Chambo fish and chips and the famous cheesecake. The only drawback for us was that the very noisy chickens woke us at 5 and kept going until it was time for us to get up. We visited the rock art with a very informative guide, Jeremy, who took pleasure in showing us round the site which, sadly, seems to be little visited despite being a UNESCO world heritage site.

We stopped to Dedza without much planning as we had left Blantyre on Friday afternoon and needed to meet someone just outside of Lilongwe on Saturday morning before driving through to Lake Malawi. A friend recommended Dedza Pottery Lodge and we were delighted to find such well-appointed and reasonably-priced rooms. A spectacular sunset and some good company with a visiting American doctor over dinner, followed by a little party drinking shots with a celebrating eighteen-year-old, was followed on Saturday morning by a visit to the famous rock paintings, a UNESCO world heritage site. This was very special and added something unexpected and exciting to this trip.

Travelled by cycle from Lilongwe. Cyclists made welcome, which is part of the warm and helpful manner of the staff. Cycle storage will give visitors reassurance. Excellent food which lives up to the high recommendations. There is also an excellent pottery shop on site for memorabilia/gifts. I would strongly recommend visitors to Dedza to visit this venue in atleast one of its capacities.

My husband and I stayed here in 2017 and again in 2020. We live in Lilongwe town so this haven outside of the city serves as a beautiful, cool, quiet, green getaway. The rooms are very spacious and always nicely kept including a small fridge & pantry. We’ve enjoyed hiring guides to take us to the top of Dedza Mountain, to the rock art and on tours around the pottery making shop. We never leave empty handed always bringing home some new pottery! The food has always been tasty and we also never leave without some cheesecake. A great getaway to enjoy the green gardens and cool weather.

I quiet place between Chiponde & Lilongwe. Nice & quiet. 2 Star rooms at affordable prices. A guided tour on rock art trips is famous for its wealth of Prehistoric cave paintings. & Also could visit the pottery shop

Dedza Pottery is worth a visit and we had an excellent lunch in the cafe. The is another pottery called Dedza pottery in a hotel no where near the real one and the pottery is factory made not hand made and is rubbish and not worth visiting.

The restaurant, its veranda and garden are a very nice place to sit down and enjoy some good food. Most food is freshly prepared and took some time to arrive at out table. but it was very tasty food. it was worth waiting for.

Probably the BEST & only reasonably recommend stopover we found for a break. Very affordable & delicious 😋😋😋 food. A basic bar...but served with a lot of African Heart. Nice listening the stories of nineties how it all started

We had a wonderful stay at the Dedza Pottery Lodge. The communication with the employee was perfect, he phoned us three times to confirm all details about our stay. The room was big, clean and reasonably priced. The mattrass and pillow were comfortable, there were warm blankets and the bednets were intact. One tiny negative: the heater in the room did not work well to heat up the whole room. The food was tasty and the environment was green and clean. There was hot water available for showering after request. We had our laundry done for a good price and it came back very clean. It was possible to view traditional dancing. Best time for this is the afternoon and the weekends. We also did a pottery tour which was an interesting experience and a lot of fun. In summary we would really recommend the Dedza Pottery Lodge!
