We stayed one night as a family of 4. Had a room with a super king and 2 added fold up beds for the kids. Plenty of space. Room was spotlessly clean, tastefully and simply furnished. Bathroom with large bath tub and shower. I thought the shower was excellent, my 6ft 3 husband then demonstrated to me that the shower head was at his nose level!! Coffee and tea facilties in room and fresh milk in communal fridge just outside room. Honesty bar available too with proceeds going to NSPCC and very reasonable prices.

Breakfast delicious, served in main house. In a room with her grandson's toys, which both her grandson and then owner were happy for my kids to play with, which meant we could actually eat our breakfast!

Liz, the owner, was very friendly and helpful. Great communication beforehand and recommendations for local area.

We only stayed one night but would recommend. Perfect place for family stay if wanting to visit diggerland which is about 20 minutes away. Also about 25 minutes from Devon Railway Centre which was enjoyed by my small boys.

We just had a couple of nights at the Old Dairy and would recommend it to anyone looking for top quality accommodation in a quiet and peaceful location. The hosts, Liz and Steve, work tirelessly to make your stay a happy one and they're doing a great job.

The room was comfortable, clean and tidy and had everything we needed. The walls are thick so I could snore without waking the neighbours, though my wife wasn't so lucky. Breakfast was just right and it's nice that the owners take the time to chat and give you recommendations and ideas about the local area. We found a couple of lovely places to eat, one a country pub seemingly lost in time (the Staple Cross Inn) and the other a buzzing restaurant (The Pump House).

Would I change anything? Only the length of our stay, and we hope to return some day.

Thanks from John & Mandy!

My wife and I had a fantastic stay at The Old Dairy. Liz, who runs the B&B, was fantastic; very friendly, showed us everything we needed to know, cooked an ace breakfast and was all-round a star.

The parking is convenient (park at the back, not in front of the garages, which is fairly obvious I think). Our room was large, clean, well furnished and very comfortable. The bathroom perfect, with a great shower and again a large space. The honesty bar was ideal, as we fancied a snack on the evening, so came in really useful.

Breakfast is served in the main building away from the rooms, so no smells drifting into your room first thing in the morning. Especially good if you're a vegetarian like me, who does not find the smell of bacon pleasant in the morning!

In terms of COVID19 measures, I couldn't really complain about any aspect of the visit. Everything appeared clean as you'd expect at any time and tables were well distanced at breakfast as you'd expect at the moment. We wore masks as is the law; others didn't, but may not have been able to and as it's not our business to ask them about that, we didn't ask and just kept our distance and kept hands clean. Nice and easy.

I would definitely stay again and recommend this place to anyone looking for a comfortable stay in a nice quiet area. The garden areas are lovely, birds everywhere, lots of great views and really quite a pleasant place to be.

The Old Dairy is a converted barn and has been cleverly done to provide comfortable rooms with all necessary facilities whilst maintaining the basic fabric of the building. The bathroom has modern fittings and the bedroom was roomy with a sofa and plenty of room to relax. Liz is a very welcoming host and her breakfasts are delicious. The weather during our visit was disappointing, which nobody could control, so we were unable to take advantage of the gardens and local walks in the beautiful countryside. The location is good for the sites of Western Somerset/Eastern Devon. We plan to visit again and hope for better weather!

We stayed for four nights at the Old Dairy as a family of four with a dog and cannot recommend this wonderful B&B enough. The property is set in the most beautiful countryside and has a field that is accessible from the ample parking area and can be used by guests (and their furry friends). Both rooms that we booked were very tastefully decorated and had quality bedding and towels. There are tea and coffee making facilities and fresh milk and bikkies. There is a fridge in the communal entrance containing both soft and alcoholic drinks which can be purchased at a reasonable price with profits going to the NSPCC. There are also other essentials…..such as CHOCOLATE and other bits and bobs that you might fancy or have completely forgotten to pack. Liz has thought about everything and has it all covered. Having breakfast cooked/prepared for us each day was bliss and it was all done to perfection. Liz and Steve were fab hosts and if you want suggestions of places to go and visit then between them they have so much knowledge. This was our first visit and definitely won’t be our last. We would highly recommend staying here - you will love it.

We had a funeral to attend and the prospect of a six-hour drive there and back in a single day due to work commitments. At the last minute we decided to try and make it halfway the night before, and set about trying to find somewhere reasonably close to the M5 where I would feel comfortable and COVID-safe. Thank goodness I didn't see that awful 1 star review as I would never have phoned Liz and got sorted. She was incredibly understanding and helpful, and even stayed up till 11.30pm to welcome us and settle us in. We were SO grateful for the huge comfortable room and the honesty bar that night, and in the morning to eat delicious freshly cooked breakfast watching the birds in the beautiful garden before setting off again was just what we needed. Liz even sent us off with emergency snacks in case we had no time to eat again before the church service. We couldn't have asked for more!

Beautiful setting to unwind. Warm welcome from Liz and cosy clean room. Roll top bath in Four Poster Suite fab for sipping a bottle of bubble in. Honesty bar in entrance or fridge to chill your own wine as long as you leave a donation to NSPCC. Beambridge pub can deliver food to hotel. Will definitely be coming again. Thank you Liz and Steve

We only stayed one night on our way back from our holiday in Cornwall, to break up the journey, and although it was a short stay, I am really pleased that we chose it. We received a very warm welcome from the hosts and really liked the large room we stayed in. It was well-equipped, comfortable and clean. The bathroom was nicely furnished and a good size. It was lovely and peaceful and so we got a great night's sleep.
Breakfast was very good, including really tasty home-made bread. It was made even more enjoyable by having it in the lovely dining room, complete with pretty views outside. It was also well worth a walk around the garden, which the owners kept beautifully - lovely views over the countryside too.
The only slight drawback was not being able to pay by credit card on site (I only reserved the room in advance) so we needed to make a bank transfer. Worth knowing in advance. Overall though, can highly recommend.

We were warmly welcomed to The Old Dairy by our host Liz & shown to our beautiful room with iron Four Poster bed & gorgeous big bathroom (freestanding bath & separate shower), in the wonderful converted barn. The bed linen was so soft & silky with quality bedding, very luxurious. The barn has been restored to a very high standard. There was a very well stocked honesty fridge & beautiful roses outside. Our full English breakfast next morning was absolutely delicious & beautifully cooked, with home made bread. Liz is a wonderful host & we felt very at home. Steve, her partner has created a beautiful garden where you are free to sit or wander - we could see how much very hard work he had done in it’s creation. We would thoroughly recommend a stay at The Old Dairy & would certainly come back again if in the area.

Is it good location for the iron man
Answer from Liz_Cannon
Wellington, United Kingdom36 contributions26 helpful votes
Hi there. The other contributor isn't correct with the mileage. It's actually about 14 miles and takes 35 to 40 minutes. All the roads around Wimbleball are small country lanes so the distance is relatively short compared to the time you need to allow. We've had many IronMan contestants stay with us and in fact this year 3 out of 4 rooms were occupied by participants and they ended up sharing the drive in the morning (all three finished by the way!). Two stayed Friday and Saturday night the others on Sunday too as they weren't sure they'd be in a fit state to drive afterwards! Feel free to call me to find out more. Thanks, Liz
