Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I had high hopes for the Old Manse B&B given the high proportion of 4- and 5-star reviews on Tripadvisor. However, the reality was about as far from that as possible. I would never stay here again and can't believe the Tripadvisor reviews are so good for this place - did these people really stay here? Firstly, the house itself is set back off a busy road past a boarded up church. From the outside we should have known this was not going to be a good place to stay - the whole place looked unmaintained, shabby and falling to bits (such as the porch that was clinging on for dear life and the filthy front door) but we'd already booked so hoped for better things inside. However, the inside was just as bad. Everything was old, grimy and dusty. The carpets hadn't been changed for about 30 years. Everything felt, looked and smelled grubby. The whole place needed a thorough deep clean, re-paint and refurbishment. To be fair the bed linen was at least clean and the room itself was spacious enough, except the en-suite 'bathroom' which was absolutely tiny and of the cheapest quality, with the previous occupant's hair in the shower and just generally grubby. I found a piece of dried toast by the bed, presumably also from the previous occupant. Breakfast was the worst I've ever had. The cooked breakfast was off, including the eggs. We could only eat the bread. Bearing in mind the cost was £140 a night, it is shocking. Needless to say we will never be re-visiting the Old Manse. All in all, a terrible stay.

An excellent 2 night stay on our walking holiday around the Gower. Katie is an excellent and caring host. Our room was very comfortable and clean. Breakfast was delicious and homemade cookies very tasty. We felt really well-cared for. Thank you again.

A sweet welcome to a delightful house, set back off the road. Fresh, crunchy clean and well imagined comforts. A cracking breakfast, good chats & well informed knowledge of the Gŵyr area. The Old Manse is within easy reach of good walking, swimming and (now) awesome blackberries. A delightful stay.

Lovely location and house. Room very comfortable and excellent breakfast. Host was very welcoming and friendly and great communication. Accommodated us when we arrived very late, and gave good advice about local beaches. Our room had a giant bathroom to use with a gorgeous bath and huge shower.

My wife and I have just returned home after a five night stay during which Katie made us most welcome - the perfect attentive host. Nothing was too much trouble for her. She was happy to answer any questions about the area, including suggestions for where we could get evening meals nearby, visitor attractions and so on. I know the area from my student days but that was a long time ago so the updated advice was most welcome. Our room was comfortable with tea/coffee making facilities. Fresh milk was provided on request. Breakfast wasn't a set menu. We were asked what we wanted the previous evening and this was cooked to order - all fresh produce too, including home made bread. There's ample car parking but, if you want to leave your car behind, the bus stop is 50 yards down the road. All-in-all a lovely, comfortable, homely B & B.

A lovely B&B. Katie was the perfect host and made sure our two night stay was special. Lovely room, really good breakfasts with home made bread. We also had an evening meal (by special arrangement) - really good. Beetroot and feta starter, chicken main meal and lovely home made apple and blackberry crumble with real custard. What a treat.
