A fantastic place! We stayed in both the Colonial and family suites. Both were clean and inviting. The staff was very sweet and helpful. Breakfast was very good. All in all, an excellent stay! We'll be back.

Right out of the gate, the employees were warm and totally welcoming. I stayed (alone) in the cute jail cell room at the back. They did a great job at maintaining the look and feel of the jail cell (original bunks still attached to the walls), yet adding a comfy bed and a few modern amenities. Yes, the room can...

The Jailers Inn is such a different place to stay. Very interesting history; not your typical B&B. Despite it's colorful past, this place was very comfortable. We stayed in the colonial room. The bed was so comfy. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The host, Paul, is lots of fun. You can tell he loves what...

Thank you. I do enjoy what I do at Jailer's Inn, but mostly I enjoy the interesting people that come and stay with us. Thank you for staying with us and please come back and be a "repeat offender" at Jailer's Inn.

We liked our night of imprisonment, the jailer was kindly, and our king-bedded cell clean and comfy too. All the good restaurants and shops are a short walk away. The communal breakfast was tasty, though high in sugar and fat (this is just a personal preference - we try to eat simple low carb food at breakfast). You will enjoy,...

This is our fifth visit to the Jailer's Inn in the heart of Bardstown. Paul, our host, has been here each and every time offering warm and comfortable accommodations. The yard in back is a great private place to sip bourbon with other guests, and Mammy's across the street is perfect for lunch or dinner. We love it!

How many people have the opportunity to stay in an authentic and historic jail? Well, we did! We had an awesome room, upstairs in the "Library Room". The room was tastefully decorated as an old "library" which consisted of a King Size Bed which was very inviting and comfortable. Our room was one of three bedrooms upstairs that had been...

I am so going to have to stay here again. It was wonderful. Great atmosphere and truly a treasure. Enjoyed the little bar next door and the room was perfect. Seeing so much history turned into beauty was endearing.

We stayed in the Library Room for one night and it was great! The room was very comfortable and inviting. Paul gave us a wonderful breakfast in the morning and chatted about local history as we ate. The location is perfect for walking around town. In December it seems most businesses close around 4 so there wasn't a huge choice of...

This is such a unique place and town, words will not serve justice. The old jail is just as accommodating as Lisa (the warden) and Paul (owner). Walking distance to many local shopping and dining options, the old jail is a perfect B & B to relax, explore and learn. Lisa's Southern hospitality and great cooking will get your first...

A trip to bourbon country for the day - and we decided to stay the night. This place was recommended by a local. It sure beat any chain hotel. It was very old - but very clean for its age. A true historic landmark - no ghosts for us this time. Breakfast was hot and delis. Thanks for this surprisingly...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Iron bars on windows, 30 inch thick limestone walls, and a heavy steel door slamming behind you may not sound like the typical tourist accommodation. However, Jailer's Inn is anything but typical. The historic Jailer's Inn, circa 1819, in the center of Bardstown, Kentucky offers a unique and luxurious way to "do time." Jailer's Inn is a place of wonderful, thought provoking contrasts. Each of our seven guest rooms are beautifully decorated with antiques and heirlooms, and offer private bathrooms, some with a double Jacuzzi. All located in the renovated front jail, built in 1819. The back jail, built in 1874, is basically unchanged; you get a chilling, sobering look at former conditions in the old Nelson County jail used in full operation up until 1987. Catch a glimpse of life seldom seen in these two historic jails listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. On spring and summer mornings, as you sip hot coffee and chat with other guests over a full breakfast in the courtyard, it's difficult to imagine all of the previous uses of the courtyard, a place to visit forlorn relatives or even the centralized location of the Nelson County gallows. Come "do time" in jail and unlock an adventure in history. Whether you sleep in the elegant Victorian Room, rest and read in the Library Room or enjoy the peaceful setting of the Garden Room, it will be a "captivating experience." ... more   less
