We visited as a family with our 3 year old and with another couple. We stayed for 6 nights i in the 3 bed bungalow and the whole trip has superb. The bungalow is huge and very well equipped. The cooking school was great fun and a superb lesson with incredible food that we all enjoyed afterwards. The staff could not have been more helpful and welcoming. The atmosphere was so relaxing- it was truly a great holiday. The boys fished all day every day and whenever we fancied a change from the pool we could visit them on the lake… we will be coming back in a few years for sure

I visited Gillhams with my husband in August 2023 (prepared to be bored). The photos of this place do not do it justice, this place is an absolute paradise. The grounds are beautifully manicured with a wide variety of tropical plants & wildlife such as giant butterflies, geckos, dragonflies etc, plus an unwelcome spider in the jungle loo! (which is based on the opposite side of the lake bungalows for those fishing these pegs. The restaurant has a panoramic view of the lake & serves amazing meals, there are a few themed nights such as BBQ, Thai buffet & Sunday dinner but you can opt out if you fancy something of their amazing menu. The bungalows are very basic but have all you need, the staff (who speak mainly English) were super friendly & went above & beyond to make our stay perfect. We were picked up promptly from our hotel in Aonang & taken directly to the resort which was about a 30 min journey. After settling in to our bungalow (F1) & checking the whole complex out. We were offered a little rod to fish the small lake as we were not booked on to fish until the next day, we caught some good size pacu & Julians carp around 25lb. (I did notice during our stay that most people went on this little lake on their first day of arrival & had a blast, especially families with kids as you are guaranteed to catch) Fishing on the big lake starts at 7am & finishes at 7pm (unless you have a 'fish on', in which case the guides will stick around for as long as it takes & even swim to the other end of the lake making sure you don't get 'snagged off' so you can land your beast). You don't have to leave your peg for breakfast/lunch as their friendly staff come to take your order & deliver it to you. Hubby was given his allocated peg number the day we arrived along with his daily bait allowance & a quick brief of what to expect. Equipment was set up waiting for him along with a guide when he arrived. I sat in the empty peg next to him (as it had every other peg fishing to allow for space) & soaked up the beautiful surroundings; I got so excited every time his bite alarm went off, in fact everyone got to know everyone & all looked out for each other & cheered each other on when they had a 'fish on'. I'm not gonna lie, the fishing was tough , in fact the guides commented that they had never known it fish so hard (maybe it had something to do with the monsoon they had a few days earlier?). There were some days that hubby didn't catch as with any venue, you always get good /bad days, good pegs/not so good pegs, there is no rhythm or rhyme to it. & some didn't catch at all. Hubby's guide Nung (not sure how you spell it) was absolutely amazing, his attention to detail & dedication was second to none. If I could give any tip before you go it would be to check what you are allowed to take as hubby arrived a little unprepared (such as pink goo & DEFINATELY plenty of PVA bags, strong braid, hooks, & maybe a waggler) although they do have a small shop on site & provide braid/hooks, it is not of the best quality. A young but wise Toby in the next peg was using his secret pink stuff on the house boilies, which worked a treat in his peg was a flier catching some right whoppers & this was the 'magic' stuff that caught my hubby his prize Alligator Gar & Julians. If I wanted a change of scenery, there were plenty of options such as the pool, spa or cookery school. Trips/days were also available & although I didn't have any kids with me I got chatting to the other 'fishing widows' & their families & by the end of our trip the place felt like home & the staff like family. I had a wonderful last evening with the ladies & kiddies at khlong Hill view point watching a magical a sunset. Chai the Gillhams driver deserves a special mention too as he could not do enough for you, he was so kind & thoughtful, happy to take you anywhere you wanted to go & showed us some great little places. He even stopped along the way to see the macaques & grabbed a bunch of lychee (which I though was shopping for his wife) but he had bought them to entice the monkeys from the mangroves so we could get a better look. I have fallen in love with this place & the people, even though I don't really fish & can't wait for our next trip!

We went as a family, wife, young son, and I. The best place we have been in many many years. The bungalows were spotless, plenty of clean towels everyday for the pool, for the room, and for fishing. The grounds were immaculately kept by the staff, a real pleasure to see. Food was great, both Thai and English menu. What really made it for us was the family atmosphere to the whole place. The staff were amazing, helpful and kind, and would bend over backwards to help. The same friendly faces each day, always smiling and happy! I lived I Thailand for a number of years ago, and have seen a lot of different places, and this was one of the best! Lastly the fishing was awesome! The fishing guides very helpful and knowledgeable

Visited Gillhams Aug 2023, I’ve been wanting to visit here for some time and had this trip booked for over a year. The venue is run very professionally. The accommodation is immaculately clean and the beds are ver comfortable, we had a family 2 bed Villa A1 and it was perfect for our family. The meals were all 10/10 with breakfast/lunch being served to the lake where you fish from and also drinks and ice creams. The menu is extensive and caters for everyone, my son had the Gillhams burger 3 times as he’s said it was the best burger he’s ever had, the Thai cuisine is amazing and I couldn’t get enough of it, think I may of put a few pounds on during my stay. The fishing is out of this world, I’ve been carp fishing for 40 years catching English carp in excess of 50lb and I’ve never experienced anything as aggressive as these fish take the bait, the runs are incredible and you think your arms are going to be pulled off. We caught carp at Gillhams up to 110lb along with many other captures. The fishing guides are great, very polite and very knowledgeable, always listen to them if you want to catch as fish of your dreams. We can’t wait to visit again.

Gillhams provided a bespoke fishing experience that you’d never get anywhere else in the world. Set in a stunningly beautiful backdrop, we were met with friendly staff and quickly taken to our swim. The guides were extremely knowledgeable and hugely cared that we enjoyed the day (🙌 shoutout to Danny). The fishing is solely monsters, the 2 of us both caught an 80/85 lb Siamese carp. Throughout the day, staff came round on bikes and golf carts taking drink and food orders straight to your swim which was incredibly useful and smooth system.

As a new carp fisherman from the UK I wanted to have the opportunity to catch real life beast to over 100lb. The 100lb target was smashed with a huge Siamese Carp amongst another dozen or so fish of various species. The wife doesn’t fish but plenty to do on the site and locally including the panoramic swimming pool, on-site spa, local elephant sanctuary, views at khao thong hill, giant Buddha and various local beaches. Gillhams….. I will be back again soon!

Gillhams Resort is a hidden treasure. We went for the fishing experience but the overall beauty and tranquility of this resort makes us want to return just to relax! The staff is exceptionally friendly and accommodating. All the facilities on the property are 5*. It was hot so the fishing was a bit slow...but we had almost as much fun watching other fishermen reeling the big ones in as we did !!! Highly recommend!!!

After 30 months of planning we arrived at the resort which was fantastic… the fishing although slow was very enjoyable and the guides Danny and Yut were exceptional and we learnt a lot from both of them… catching some excellent fish over the two weeks was an highlight and a personal best so. Thank You Stuart for designing and building an excellent fishing location… I do need to mention a few negatives though as I know you are always looking to improve… The facilities were a bit tired and we had several problems with water pressure, blocked toilets and an inadequate shower… The pool did not get cleaned unless we complained so the daily PPM / Audits are not working.. Following a severe storm there was no storm procedures in place for protection of the customers and the management neglected their “duty of care” to ensure everyone was okay… water flooding into our bathroom it took several complaints where the Thai people were the only ones to respond… I was aware that the management team are new but when unplanned events like this happen they need to kick into another gear and look after customers…. The only other concern I had was bill creep being charged for things we never had and being captive to high prices… the BBQ & Sunday roast were not worth the expense. The Thai food was excellent and Noon & Max were absolute stars always on hand to help and nothing was too much trouble. Lessons need to be learn as to what “resort means” especially for the guests who accompany the people who fish…. They spend alot more time around the pool and in the rooms than we do….
