Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Hotel was excellent, great service, room furnishings were perfect, very comfy bed. Both dinner and breakfast was very tasty. The reason for a 3 star comes down to our experiences at the spa. Firstly we were on a package deal and our treatment was booked for the day we were due to check out, not the day we arrived. This meant we had to pay extra for late checkout so we could get ready after the treatment. Secondly no toilet paper in the toilets, broken facilities and the pool was on the cold side (for a spa). Thirdly service at the spa, our package stated we would get robes and slippers. When we asked for these on the day we arrived we were told we could not have them until we had our treatment! How ridiculous is this?? We were using the facilities on our first day, as mentioned on the second day we just had time to have the treatment and leave! Finally the experience of the treatment! We felt like because we were on a package deal we were literally at the bottom of the priority list. We waited 15 mins for our treatment! Finally got taken to the room, no instructions! Told we had the 45 mins to use it. Then after 30 mins the door was knocked and we were told we had 5 mins to leave. So basically our time was reduced to 30 mins because the staff member who sorted out the room was 15 mins late. I really don’t think this is fair or the service you should get at a spa. I have stayed here before and had a great experience at the spa but I would say sadly standards have definitely slipped over the last couple of years. Such a shame as the hotel and rest of our stay was amazing.

We have just had a lovely carvery at the East Sussex National golf club. As always, the service was spot on. Thankyou to Kevin, Greg, Harry, and the rest of the staff. There's always a great welcome, and We are always well looked after. It was a real treat to have a carvery on a Thursday. These should become a regular occurrence. Thanks again

Mixed feelings on this hotel. Everything looks very nice. We booked an overnight spa deal which was really good value. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to just get in the pool and swim leisurely as there were some very serious swimmers in there lane swimming. The really strange thing that was apart from a couple of people, the staff were like AI’s. It was really funny, especially in the restaurant. We had one lovely waitress in the evening but the next morning at breakfast was very strange, they don’t even say good morning! They even moved like robots 😂.

Turned up on Saturday to use spa and having made enquiry before hand was under the impression I could use the facilities on a day pass discovered they’ve brought in a rule that you can use facilities at the weekend. Not just that but the customer service on the desk was awful, girl was obnoxious I wouldn’t return now on any day. This hotel has gone down hill fast

Dear James, Thank you for your review, we are sorry that you we not permitted into the leisure club. Due to the overwhelming popularity of the facilities at weekends all new passes sold are midweek only. We hope that you understand that this is done for over-crowding and health and safety reasons, if you become a member you can have full access to the facilities. Point noted about reception we will look into this. Kind regards, John W

I am at the venue now!' Booked murder mystery night it finshes at 10, it's 8.15 now - no food - menu preordered & paid for, no service - downstairs to the bar - 1 person serving. Disgusting. Certainly won't be booking for my 'big' birthday celebrations. We were encouraged to dress up which most have & we are sitting in a conference room!

Thank you for your review albeit confusing, we are dictated to by timings by Murder 57 who run the events. Looking at CCTV and as per their request you were taken into the event for briefing between 7.30 and 8pm. then at bang on 8.15pm the requested time your starter was served with the following courses shortly after. From 7.30pm there was 3 of our team stood outside the room with a further three for food service. We also had 3 bar people on rota that evening either behind the bar, on the floor or clearing tables. Our function rooms serve as conference, social or wedding rooms. If you would like to discuss anything or for me to provide you with stills of timings I would be happy to do so if you email me at john.woodward@eastsussexnational.co.uk Kind regards, John W

This is a great hotel in a spectacular place and after buying a TravelZoo voucher I was really excited to visit. The hotel reception is spectacular and so where the hotel staff but the hotel it tired and showing it’s age dispute it being only a few years old. Our room had curtains hanging down and burnt. The walls were unfinished and looking like they just needed to be painted. The fixtures in the Spa were falling off the wall and the water wasn’t draining. The spa staff just showed us to the room where our treatment was going to take place and didn’t explain anything and the whole experience was very poor. I’m not sure if this is because we were TravelZoo customers but there was no attempt too to give us any service and I found the whole journey very poor. This is something I wouldn’t repeat as I thought the whole experience wasn’t special and I believe this is due to buying a deal from TravelZoo and I think this is terrible. This is not value for money and our room was sparse and tired and the food in the deal wasn’t anything special although, the double gin and tonic was very nice but at £13 a time, you’d expect this to be nice

Dear Leon, Thank you for your review and I do apologise for the poor service with your rhassoul or Voya bath experience. I have already bought this up with the team and also will be implementing refresher training. I assure you that myself and my team do not treat guests according to what package they are on and we really do hope that you return to ESN and give us another chance. Kind regards, John W

Fantastic stay on spa package with welcome drink. Fantastic very large room with beautiful view. Evening dinner was stunning with fantastic service all round but Breakfast not up to standard. You would expect from the hotel of this standard not to produce cold full English. It is hot breakfast. Cold plates, the tomato ketchup was kebab shop ketchup - horrible stuff. Have to say that the pancake machine spot on.

I am glad Wendy below had a pleasant experience as I similarly went for my birthday as I did last year. Last year you nearly killed my husband by giving him bread containing walnuts and this year, after making a reservation for a spa day through RedLetter day and confirming all the details byway of email, unfortunately my reservation never got booked. Spending 35 minutes trying to convince you that we did have a valid voucher and trying to contact RedLetter day was an experience I didn’t need. I cannot fault the hotel, it’s beautiful, the food is lovely and I was excited to return for my birthday but after these two last experiences, I need to stay away for a while for my own sanity and my husband’s safety, he gets on my nerves sometimes but I don’t want to kill him off just yet! 😂

This was a birthday treat. We went for the spa package including bed and breakfast. A few problems on arrival but this was fixed without any issues. My therapist was a lovely girl called Briony and she was really lovely and made me feel at ease. Showed me around the spa and some of the facilities we wernt aware off. Out room was clean and well equipped with xtra pillows, refreshments etc Dinner was a set menu but once again they were happy to variate slightly. Fin was pur waiter and was charming , attentive and good fun. I feel relaxed and content. THANK YOU
