Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A friend and I have just had the best time at this hotel. We were celebrating my friends 60th birthday and this was the perfect experience. The service, food, bedrooms and facilities were outstanding. The beautiful old house has been sympathetically restored and the decor and furnishings were entirely in keeping with the age of the house. The location of the house has wonderful views of the stunning countryside which surrounds it. Can thoroughly recommend!

There are lots of good things about this hotel/spa - the spa facilities were lovely (indoor pool, sauna, steam, outdoor hot-tub), rooms recently renovated, amazing grounds and good (if expensive) food. As others have noted, this hotel is expensive - almost £600 for room and breakfast - for a room that overlooks the spa courtyard (which is quite loud since club members come in to use the hot-tub). However, we turned up to find that our spa appointment that we'd booked had actually been made for the following month. They managed to squeeze us in, but it was super stressful. Additionally, the wifi in our room just didn't work (room 25). It worked in the hallway outside, but as soon as the door closed there was no service. Finally, about 3am, we woke up to water leaking from the ceiling. We managed to put a garbage pail underneath to catch the drips. But it's hard to justify the price.

Absolutely brilliant break at this venue, staff were friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable. Our room was very comfortable, quiet and clean and service was first rate throughout our stay. We ate in the restaurant each evening and the food and service was 5star. Perfect location for exploring Cheltenham and surrounding area

We stayed here for a night in a Feature room and had dinner and breakfast. The room was spacious, clean and elegantly decorated with a huge bath. The staff were helpful and friendly and we used the spa facilities which were relaxing, comfortable and clean. The pool was small but warm with jacuzzi jets. However the real highlight of our stay was dinner. We had a 3 course meal - the flavour was superb for every course and the portions were a good size. As an addition, we loved the homemade orange biscotti in the room and the turn down service was a lovely touch. Breakfast was also delicious, especially the homemade granola and fruit. This was a lovely hotel for comfort, offering spa and country walks (Crickley Hill nearby had gorgeous views) but the meals were truly outstanding!

We had our wedding here, it was the perfect day. The hotel is set in beautiful countryside with rolling hills behind it and gorgeous gardens around the historic building. The staff are exceptional and couldn’t have been more helpful. The food was superb and everyone enjoyed everything in the wedding breakfast. All was beautifully presented and nothing seemed to be any trouble, especially in relation to the Lavender Lodge, which is perfect for elderly or disabled guests. Our disabled daughter was impressed by the staff being so gracious and accommodating to make her as comfortable as possible. The bedrooms in the hotel are spacious and sumptuous and exquisitely decorated. Highly recommended, particularly for weddings.

One of the few hotels which accept dogs where you can eat. They set up a table in the lounge where we eat breakfast and dinner. Our dog was not allowed in the excellent spa or restaurant but could stay in our room. The grounds were excellent for exercising our dog. The spa treatments were excellent, as was the pool, sauna and steam room. It is on a bus route so you could stay here without a car.

We really loved this hotel! We had a romantic night away with our two dogs. They had beds with a toy and treats prepared in the room. The grounds are beautiful for a walk and we had a lovely meal in the lounge. The spa was lovely and relaxing with nice facilities. The room was very nice with a lovely fitted bathroom. My only feedback on the room would be it would be great to have some chocolates or biscuits as an evening snack with the hot drinks provided. The service was pretty good, and the cocktails and breakfast was lovely! We really enjoyed are stay; thanks!

Lovely hotel, beautiful views from the breakfast room, and friendly service. Nice spa as well, loved the outdoor jacuzzi! Great for a relaxing break, you feel 'away from it all' whilst just a short drive from Cheltenham. Visiting again in November.

A lovely hotel with a room which had everything we could need. The shower is powerful, toiletries are nice and the bed was comfortable. I always like a hotel that does a turndown service. Housekeeping staff that I met were friendly. The spa is small but very clean. A machine to spin swimming costumes (or some bags) would assist. Staff again were very friendly and I did have a spa treatment (which I have separately reviewed) Breakfast is okay but the bakery items need an upgrade as they seemed to have come from the supermarket and the muffin and toast were of poor quality. Coffee however was strong. We had dinner in the restaurant and this was a let-down. The manager was brusque. The very small portions of food didn’t have enough taste to warrant the cost. If the restaurant wants to be known for fine dining then staff need to learn who has ordered what when bringing the food to the table. No one wants to hear ‘mushroom’ or ‘beef’ being shouted out whilst trying to eat their tiny plate of food. Would I return? Yes, but I wouldn’t choose to eat here.

In summary a loverly place. The staff were excellent and the food in particular was stunning. The venue had a beautiful garden with hidden gems, which made for a pleasant walk before breakfast. We did declined a Gate House room as it was immediately alongside a noisy main road. Being about 400m from the main road it would also be a noticeable walk to the Spa, dining room and bar areas. However, as it provided the only accommodation on ground level it would be ideal for people with mobility issues. We therefore upgraded to a room in main house, which exceeded our expectations. It was a huge space that would get your daily step count up. It had very modern decor where the bathroom had a double shower, twin sinks and a bath. However, I must ask why it is that so many hotels push two single beds and single mattresses together to form a double? Not ideal. The main house was full of character and tastefully decorated. A quick and easy solution to make it perfect would be to paint the bedroom doors which had numerous marks on them that would take 5-minutes to repair. The evening meal was to die for... a limited menu that was not cheap but everything so unique. Great flavours and textures. Different from anything I have tasted before. We did use the Spa, which whilst not the biggest was very clean and modern. The gym lacked leg weight machines but there was a small selection of free weights. The cardio equipment was up to date. However, as said, great venue. Loverly food and most of all the staff were very engaging and professional where nothing was too much trouble.
