Charming historical hotel! Great overnight stay. Damien was the perfect host giving us some great historical facts of Avenel. Ned Kelly's dad "Red" is actually buried there! Shared some stories with a few locals in the old bar. Great overnight stay. Comfy cozy room. Well done to Damien and Sonja for keeping such a beautiful building alive!

The accommodation is a little tired but it is comfortable and that can't detract from the overall experience here. The bar is small and intimate. Our hosts were wonderful and Damien in the bar is a fount of knowledge about local wines and the region. We were encouraged to try the local wines to match our meals. Bonus! We had... More

I have read the bulk of the reviews here, and find myself smiling wryly, for after almost a decade of working in the administration of a very exclusive 5 star hotel, I have a pretty fair knowledge of the typical picky whingers that far prefer to criticise than simply relax and enjoy! I could certainly jot down a list of... More

We visited this country hotel with a group of friends - we had booked quite a few months prior - unfortunately they had overbooked and our group was spread out even in a B&D further up the road. This hotel is desperate for a facelift and a very very large clean, lights in rooms and corridors not working, dirt every... More

So after reading trip advisor, we didn't have high expectations. Yes, there is mould on the ceiling, dead flies behind the bed , broken blinds, broken window , bed broke too. Very noisy. Next door to a restaurant. But beside that the mattress was comfortable, bedding and linen clean. Shower and bathroom clean. Hosts friendly. We could deal with shabby...... More

This characterful hotel is fabulous value for money - Damien and Sonya are welcoming hosts and made this a relaxing and refreshing stay. The room was spotlessly clean, the bed comfortable, there was reverse cycle heating. I had a superb aged steak for dinner with very good house wine. I could park just outside my room which made for easy... More

Very warm welcome from the owners and lovely ambience. Great little town with warm residents throughout the town. The place does need some work, but that's in progress and the bed was very comfortable and the shower hot!

We stayed opposite the main hotel in a guest house. Our door didn't have a lock which made us feel a bit uncomfortable at first - also didn't have a TV in the room. Staff were friendly and there is a very yummy pizza place opposite - bit overpriced for what it was.

The hotel is run down and needs lots of attention. (Very sad!) Stained Carpet. Smelly Towels and non-absorbent, just horrible. The shower has a lot of mold in it. TV is on the wall in the corner of the room, far top left hand-side of bed, so you have to twist your neck to watch a tiny TV! The bed... More

We were welcomed into this quaint hotel after a really long drive the genuine welcome and care of the owners was wonderful. Beds were comfy, bathroom clean and company awesome. It was lovely to talk to a local about the history of the area over a warmed rum on a cold night.
