Stayed here as the included accommodation in a National holidays coach tour. My room (and three others) was below some noisy equipment which ran all night, - maybe air-con etc - which meant that I didn't sleep most of the week and returned home exhausted. I initially soon complained to the manager, but he refused to look into the matter, saying he didn't work, he just delegated. He delegated this matter to the night porter, who never showed up all week. I also wrote to the CEO of the hotel company, and have had no reply from him either.

I booked this hotel for a nice, romantic night away! Well no, no, no, no!! We pulled up and there were refugees everywhere as this hotel is being used as a refugee camp it is not a hotel they have at least 17 families staying there and have been there for over a month but do they make this aware to you when you book NO! We ended up having the worst night ever as we walked away and did not want to go back and I am now trying to get my money back from booking.com so let’s see what happens there. They really should be letting people know as not being funny but who wants to stay in a refugee camp NOT ME!! Stay far, far away!!!!

Unfortunately it started bad and slowly got worse Save your money and don’t be fooled by the price like I was. So was contacted on the day, the suite, wasn’t available and changed my room for a cheaper one. Room was spacious and clean but unbelievably hot, even with the weather and no air con, just two fans, which were brand new and one fan was being left outside every bedroom door, so not only my room. Then approached reception asked if I could pay for breakfast in advance, no, pay tomorrow. Tried to get a drink at the bar, no, keys had been locked behind the bar, eventually one of the many builders jumped the bar to unlock the door. So went to reception to order a taxi, no, we can’t call, they don’t come so I had to arrange one. On return, very drunk ppl outside smoking in the no smoking area, back to the sweat box! Bar closed. Room service? No Was pointless in complaining has the staff clearly didn’t care and looked as if they’d given up. So in summary, pay the little bit more and go elsewhere unless you fancy a sleepless night in a sauna. Ps The fans were useless as the plug sockets were too far away from the bed…… brilliant design

Nowhere near a three or four star but could be if was refurbished and given some TLC. Amenities are there but looking very tired and urgently in need of an upgrade. Buffet on a Saturday evening was also very tired and uninspiring, Beware, they don’t serve food on a Sunday evening. At 8.10 am for breakfast on a Monday morning there were no fried eggs and were not going to cook any soon! Not my kind of hotel. However, our room was a suite and adequate for two nights although they didn’t make up the room because of COVID….any excuse!

Okay, Basingstoke Country Hotel, lockdown is over, so no excuses. You're clearly a decade to fifteen years overdue a refit, but you could help yourselves by doing some basic tidying up - you seen to have a few of your 'back areas' around the front - empty beer barrels, kitchen refuse and bottles for recycling not so hidden in the storage area, items for the dump clearly visible through broken planks in the car park, so you could clean those up. And empty the litter bins. However, our family suite was capacious and well furnished and the staff were friendly, if the reception area still a little lifeless. Dining area was very busy on the Saturday from an outing to Legoland and my kids loved the breakfast buffet and spent hours in the swimming pool, so it all worked out well for a little local staycation. Also, the steak dinner I had in the restaurant on Sunday night was excellent, so these small surprises were well received.
