I found David & Julie to be the perfect hosts and their knowledge of the area was extensive and very interesting. They were so welcoming and made me feel completely at home, with many conversations on a wide range on subjects. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Rooms were very comfortable and the food was excellent. I would certainly stay with them again. Rob, Whtiwick.
My wife and I, along with my cousin Lisa and husband Matthew, travelled to France in Feb 20 to pay our respects to our Great Grandfather. Lisa made enquiries regarding our planned stay with David and Julie, who communicated back to her with several extremely helpful emails.... From the content of the emails, along with all the amazing reviews our decision was made. David and Julie are two of the nicest hosts you will ever get the pleasure of staying with... It was literally like staying with family, only with unbelievable knowledge of the Somme Battlefields. Our Great Grandfather Sergent Joseph Henry Young is laid to rest in the local Ovillers Military Cemetery and our room provided wonderful views across the battlefields of La Boisselle to Ovillers Cemetery. David's research and subsequent knowledge of Joseph was impeccable and he delivered this information to us with such passion. This made our experience so special, to the point we felt like we had gained a connection wth our Great Grandfather after learning so much about his time in Ovillers-La-Boisselle.... Fantastic Food, lovely comfortable rooms and Excellent hosts, I can only but strongly recommend Number Fifty 6 to anyone wishing to experience their own personal history of the Somme, or indeed pay their respects for all our Hero's from 'The Great War'.…
Our 3rd consecutive summer at this hotel, which in itself is the biggest compliment any visitor can pay their hosts. There is an enduring charm about this fabulous hotel and, as I always say, the location is prime for The Somme and all the amazing history of this place. Julie and Dave, the proprietors, are the best in the business, bar none.
Our fourth visit to this fantastic B&B. The position of this wonderful B&B is perfect. Julie and David are amazing hosts, really welcoming. So knowledgeable about the Somme. Food is excellent, rooms are really lovely, we wouldn't stay anywhere else visiting the Somme. With the current COVID situation, felt completely safe staying there. Well worth two weeks quarantine when we returned to the UK!!
Visited for a couple of nights in October 2019, the second year in a row we have done this and for me a fourth visit. The Somme looks very different in cold weather, but is still utterly compelling, obviously. Dave hosted us this time and was as always a top bloke and great company. Breakfasts here are out of this world.
