Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is the first pub I have visited at home since the Scottish Government allowed pubs and hotels to open indoors for meals and drinks again and it was a success.

David has obviously spent the entire time he was closed refurbishing the entire hotel. Everywhere had been repainted and new soft furnishings have been put in place and it just looks really fresh and gorgeous.

Again like all establishments who have more than one door it has a one door in and another out policy and you are met at the door with a table with a sign in book and a notice telling you to wait there to be seated, to sign in the book and to please use the hand sanitisers which are placed at various points in the bar, dining room and toilets. A member of staff will show you your table and take your drink and/or food order and deliver it to the table since it is now table service only and he or she will be either wearing a mask or a shield. The tables are well distanced from each other and they also have a policy in place that states that should they look like they are becoming busy they may inforce a two hour stay rule.

Now on to the food. Because of the covid crisis they do have a smaller menu than normal but it is still a good choice. Hubby had the Fish, Chips and Peas and I had the Scampi, Chips and Side Salad and both of them were gorgeous. Once we had finished our meal we moved from the dining room to a spare table in the bar to have a few more drinks and had a really enjoyable afternoon.

I will be honest and say that in all the years that I have been writing reviews on Trip Advisor I never expected to spend more time writing about how establishments are dealing with this covid crisis than how good their food and service is, but sadly at present it is essential since people do need to know how well an establishment is dealing with it and how good the measures they have in place are. This is most certainly one of the better ones.

On Monday pubs in Scotland were allowed to open again to serve alcohol outdoors.

During this last lockdown David has converted the car park behind the Hotel into an outdoor beer garden and what a great job he has made of it. We went down Friday lunch time and whilst they did have a lot of bookings they were able to give us a table for a couple of hours before all their bookings were due, so the three of us sat down and had a meal and a couple of drinks.

The menu is basic. Soup, breakfast rolls, Hamburger and Chips, Hot Dog and Chips etc. A very basic menu but totally understandable given the circumstances. They also have a bar outside where they do have a selection of drinks and anything not there will be sourced from the bar inside.

The toilets are accessible from the outside stair case via the back door and there is hand sanitiser available. There are three rows of tables, the first one beside the bar is I believe non smoking since they do not have ashtrays on the tables, the other two rows do.

The burgers and hot dogs were gorgeous by the way, although I do look forward to it being fully open again.

The one thing I will say is that if you want to go here for a drink or a meal, then phone up and book at least at the weekends. I did suggest to my hubby that we should have booked. He is one of those people who say, 'no, we'll be fine' and luckily this time we were, but only till about 3pm because other people had booked. People were eventually being turned away just before we left because tables had been booked.

Well done David, you have come up trumps again regarding innovations during the covid crisis.

We visited here after being on the maid of forth boat tour for a spot of lunch . We went in and were shown into the backroom and sat by the window with a lovely view of the rail bridge we had the place to ourselves as there was nobody else in eating which always makes me a little uneasy .The menu was limited I think due to covid I chose a bbq chicken wrap and asked twice if it had cheese with it and was told no , well it did have cheese in so I scraped it out luckily I'm not
allergic I just dont like the taste so didnt
send it back but was dissapointed also
hadnt realised it didnt come with fries so
shared my husbands who had a burger
who said it was average . The service was
good a young man served us and was
freindly but could do with knowing what
is in each item on menu .

The bar in the Stag Head hotel is what I consider to be that of an old-style, Scottish pub. It is clean and tidy and is furnished and decorated in simple traditional style with no modernist gimmicks.

In other words, it’s a nice traditional bar in which to enjoy a quiet beer or two. When we visited the atmosphere was relaxed and convivial and the service was welcoming and very good.

The room was ok, bed was clean and comfortable, but unfortunately the room was so cold, heating was obviously run by the property as we tried to turn it up, the bathroom was even worse no heating at all, there was a radiator but didn't come on, shower was good. During the night I couldn't sleep as the room was so cold . Tv wouldn't work either. When we arrived we asked about food and were told that we could order up to 6.30pm we went down at 5pm only to be told that the kitchen was now closed, so therefore had to go out to find somewhere to eat. It was £117 for a night without breakfast, we definitely would not recommend this hotel, far to cold especially with the wind and rain howling through the windows all night.

On arrival we were told that we were unable to park in the blocked car park at the back of the hotel (see picture). This despite the fact that on Trip Advisor, this hotel is advertised as having a guest car park. We complained o no avail and when we asked to talk to the manager, we were told that he would be unlikely to change his mind. We are a older couple who consequently had to park about 10/15mins away from the hotel and humpf our gear all the way to the hotel. Although the bed was comfortable, the room itself was cold and therefore the view from the window in the morning was basically blurred by the condensation. Minimum toilet paper left in the room (one third and one half a roll). And ATTENTION, the hotel does NOT do breakfast. This hotel is NOT value for money.

Stayed 3 nights with my (adult-age) son for our visits to the Open Golf at St Andrews.
Very comfortable stay.

A big THANK YOU to the hotel owner who very kindly posted a jacket back to me that I’d accidentally left behind in our room.

Lovely place to stay. We stayed in the Deluxe room and loved it , crackin view. The hotel is next to the pub which is really nice , good selection of alcohol. Staff are really nice and friendly, as are the locals. Also, it is a good jump of point for the other local eateries and drinking establishments. Also had live music on when we stayed . Has parking at the back.

One of the worst pubs we have been too my friend was asked to leave because he was wearing a tracksuit, however we could clearly see another person in tracksuits unbothered. They were incredibly rude and it unfortunately was clear it was for racist reasons. I have never been to a nastier pub, avoid at all costs

Went here for a late lunch and some drinks last week. The lady serving in the bar was extremely friendly and efficient. Food was very good, with a nice selection of starters and mains. Great value too.

To be honest I do not think that an ordinary Trip Advisor member could answer this question. This I think is something that you need to take up with the Hotel themselves and I suggest you phone them and discuss it with them.
