Hi, I’m Barney, a 3 year old Labrador and I want to tell you about my recent visit to The Baskerville, near Henley. After a sad Christmas my masters (their words) decided they needed a weekend break. They just wanted somewhere quiet, that provided good food and were happy to have dogs like me joining the fun. After a bit...

Very friendly welcome from all staff, food great. Even the dogs got some sausages for breakfast. we have 3 and it wasn't an issue. They set up a table near the bar so that the dogs could join us when eating. Large room. Thank you x

This pub is a gem we has a fantastic stay there. Very friendly staff who make this a must visit pub and hotel, it's the real deal. Breakfast was to die for, freshly prepared local ingredients. Honestly an unbeatably good experience. I will be going back.

We hadn't realised when we booked, but we found that The Baskerville is in fact ideally located for getting into the picturesque (but somewhat traffic-congested) town of Henley by train, as there's a station on a little branch line less than a minute's walk away. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and went off straight away to get hold...

Good location for a riverside walk to Henley. .Dog friendly. Had dinner there on first night which I would fully recommend. The breakfast was fine but not quite enough options for me, including healthy cereals, fruit, yogurt. the cooked breakfast was good. Room was comfortable, though feel the shower cubicle could do with an update. The staff were very friendly...

We were greeted so warmly by Jack, a staffer who really went out of his way to make us comfortable, including hauling my way-too-heavy bag to our adorable (and surprisingly quiet) second floor room above the pub. Had both dinner and breakfast there and were most impressed by both. Many of the ingredients are locally sourced and beautifully prepared. Very...

We stayed here for 1 night with our dog. It's a fabulous pub with lovely accommodation. The restaurant/food for breakfast and evening meal was great. We went on a wonderful long walk (with our dog of course) from The Baskerville along the Thames path by the river and ended up in Henley where we had lunch in a lovely pub...

The Baskerville is a lovely friendly pub with excellent rooms and young helpful staff. We had an excellent evening meal which was served in an attractive dining room and also had a great breakfast with a wide choice of cooked items. It was a perfect place for our overnight stay before going to a wedding in Henley the following day....

Just taken my father in law for his birthday lunch here. This has got to be the slowest service I've experienced for sometime. The restaurant was not crowded and we had a side room reserved but we seemed ignored. Main course ok but the deserts which took 45 mins to arrive were very lack lustre. We could not stay for...

Dear Reviewer, Thank you for your review and may I respond by offering my sincere apologies for the delay you experienced in serving you your desserts which I was fully aware of this since I and my wife were also dining. The issue lay in the kitchen and not with the front of house staff. I have taken measures to...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Oxfordshire Restaurant of the Year 2016. The Baskerville in Lower Shiplake remains a traditional village inn with a ‘proper’ bar, a delightful restaurant, 4 star accommodation, a beautiful garden and ambitions beyond its AA rosette. With Kevin Hannah and head chef Jamie Herridge at the helm, its outstanding customer service is matched only by its creative, seasonally changing menus. Fresh, ethically and locally sourced produce lie at the heart of its modern but classically based dishes which offer a memorable experience. 2015 Beautiful South Awards. Silver Award in Tourism Pub of the Year. It is a AA 4 star Inn and is similarly rated by Visit England but with a Silver Award. It is situated on the Thames Path in the tranquil, affluent village of Lower Shiplake, with well appointed en-suite rooms, the Baskerville is the perfect place to stay the night either for Dinner, business or just for a leisurely break. The small town of Henley-on-Thames with its many interesting shops and home to the Henley Royal Regatta and the Henley Festival is only 1.5 miles away. Enjoy a boat trip up the Thames or visit the River and Rowing Museum. Try a night at the Kenton theatre, the fourth oldest in England. Within the village why not stroll along to Shiplake lock and watch the river cruisers pass through. A little further up the hill is the 13th-century parish church of St Mary's where Alfred Lord Tennyson was married. Further afield are the towns of Reading 7 miles, Windsor, with its castle, and nearby Legoland 15 miles, and the university town of Oxford, 22 miles. All of these can be reached by train from Shiplake station 150 m from the pub via the Henley branch line to Twyford on First Great Western trains. Feeling a little more adventurous? Paddington station is less than an hour away with all that London can offer. Shiplake is 25 miles or 30 minutes by cab or car from Heathrow Airport. ... more   less
