We stayed here in August of 2011 (2 adults, 2 kids-9 and 11) for 2 nights. The cabin was rustic as advertised--but running hot water, gas powered fridge made up for everything, flush toilets all very nice. Limited electricity was not an issue. The boys loved the fishing, we all went canoeing and kayaking and hiking around the camp. Gorgeous...

Medawisla and the staff left nothing out of our experience. The setting was pristine, the cabin (#5) was spacious and had all of the necessities. We travelled with a two year old and the whole family had a terrific time. This is a perfect way to have a real old-fashioned back county getaway without a tent or needing to pack...

while my idea of camping is a little more rugged than my husband's (ultralite tent and an external-frame pack vs. no microwave and basic cable) - we both agreed that this was the perfect place to escape the grid. these cabins are tidy and solidly built (no mice, no leaks, no windy drafts) the little wood stove kept that place...

Not for people who are loud, afraid of animals including mice, or want modern conveinces. If you like quiet paddling or hiking than this place is for you. There is no electric other than a short time, no radios or cell phones, no TV. Just listening to loons, owls, etc. We loved it, but we can live simple and be...

Mesdawisla is ideally located if you're looking to hike, canoe/kayak, or mountain bike, but that means the area is remote. Getting to trailheads is not easy. The roads are not direct and they are not paved. There are many protruding rocks. Do not attempt them in a small car without much ground clearance. Also note that the prior poster and...

This is a lodge and cabin managed by the Appalachian Mountain Club in the middle of Maine, about 6 hours north of Boston. There are 8 cabins each of which sleep 4 to 6 people. These are the ONLY cabins on this entire lake, which is about 1000 acres. It is very quiet and peaceful, and the beauty of the...
