16th Century Coaching Inn that has a name for being eclectic. It has won awards for service, great food, wine list, best small music venue in Britain, best small golfing hotel in Scotland, amongst many more. The Bedrooms are very modern in complete contrast to the age of the main house. The food is all locally sourced and has a modern European edge to it.

We booked this venue on a weekend package to enjoy a visit to St Andrews as it is conveniently placed five miles out with easy parking.
The building is a 16th century inn with outside mews style bedroom accommodation with restaurant and bar facilities in the main building. The main building is apparently haunted by a highwayman ghost called Mad Wee McGregor, however, he made no appearance, probably due to the large number of guests present enjoying themselves. On arrival we were greeted by the manager Lee and made to feel very welcome and allocated a fantastic suite complete with balconies and a four poster bed.
The bar is very comfortable with easy chairs and an open fire and an excellent choice of spirits and beer.
The restaurant offered a pleasing menu using quality Scottish products coupled with a very reasonably priced wine list.
A great base for visiting the area and fine way to have a couple of days relaxing in the comfortable ambiance of a classic inn/hotel.

We arrived on a wet and windy January night. On arrival, we were advised that we had been upgraded. And then we were upgraded again to a suite as it was my birthday. This was very kind and unsolicited. We had two large, comfortable, contemporary style rooms - a 4 poster bed/bedroom and separate sitting room. Each room had a balcony with clear countryside views. The bathroom had a jacuzzi bath/shower with nice bathroom products. A small fridge and tea/coffee making facilities were also provided.

We enjoyed our breakfasts and Friday night dinner. We were well looked after by the manager and staff.

I would recommend checking the hotel and its parent company - Inspired Hotels for special offers. I had some difficulty getting through on the 'phone to Inspired Hotels' booking staff but, once booked, all was straightforward.

This is a super base for exploring the East Neuk of Fife/St Andrews.

Thank you for a very enjoyable stay.

My partner and I (plus our whippet Freddo) stayed for 3 nights at the end of June 2021. From the onset, we were made to feel very welcome by the staff who were friendly and professional. Our room was lovely; well maintained and perfect for our visit. Great location - 4 miles away from St Andrews and just round the corner from the East Neuk. The breakfast, which was included in the very reasonable price, was top notch. Excellent choice and great service. In fact the great service encouraged us to have dinner at the inn several times during our stay; again the food was lovely and well worth the price.

For my partner and I, the biggest sell was how accomodating the staff were with our dog. The Inn at Lathones truly is a dog friendly location. This allowed our four legged member of the family to have a geat trip too. Thank you to all the staff who made this possible.

Will definitely be looking to stay in the future and would recommend to anyone who wishes to stay near St Andrews and avoid high room prices whilst still getting excellent service.

We stayed 4 nights DB&B 23 to 27 Nov. This was a delightful experience in a unique venue. The rooms are in cottages in a courtyard setting. Our standard double was spacious, with a king size bed (two singles bolted together but very comfortable nevertheless), TV with full freeview channels, and modern ensuite with bath, efficient overhead electric shower, and a mega heated towel rail. The main building is a traditional stonebuilt inn close by. It is very cozy with Breakfast Room, Bar, and Lounge with log burning stove. Bar prices are slightly upmarket high street, between £4 to £5 for pints or shorts with mixer. The Piece de Resistance is the restaurant which recently opened in the former stables. Very ambiente, with bar and an impressive log burning stove. All the staff were excellent, but particularly on the Friday night when Storm Arwen cut the electricity off in the entire area at 1750. They really stepped up to the plate and the Chef still managed to provide virtually the entire menu by flashlight on his gas cookers, and our meal was excellent in the Stables Restaurant by LED candlelights and the big log fire. Breakfast was cooked to order with generous portions. Good choices on the dinner menu, all delicious and generously portioned. Starter+Main+Dessert is a challenge! This off-season deal with myhotelbreak was excellent value for this unique venue. We'll be back!
PostScript : Our stay was only impacted for one evening and night/morning by Storm Arwen. Other reviews here for subsequent nights are more critical, but the comments fail to fully appreciate the situation the hotel found itself in. With no electricity, the gas central heating will not work because the controls and pumps are electric. The very limited temporary electricity supply which was restored by the power company was totally inadequate to power anything other than some lighting, so still no central heating, hot water, or showers. Even if they had portable bottled gas heaters, these would be a no-no in the bedrooms in terms of fire regulations and health and safety. No hotel can be expected to have expensive infrastructure to accomodate a once in several decades weather event.

I have a bias against eating dinners at the motel I'm staying at (I've had some bad experiences). But I arrived late so I ate at the Lathones. What a find. The food was so good I ended up having all but one dinner here (4 of 5 nights). When you see locals there as well as guests it's always a good sign. I'd go here again for sure.

The room was good, and I lucked out as I was in the back facing the sheep herd / farm. If I had known, I would have asked for one of those rooms.

Booked a last minute break with Lee @ Inn of Lathones to round off the festive holiday. We were upgraded to a suite due to the Inn being quiet which was a fabulous treat! The suite was extremely spacious and lovely and cosy with a contemporary flame fire in the lounge and 4 poster in the bedroom! The lovely large bathroom had a jacuzzi. Both the lounge and bedroom had a balcony with outdoor seating to take in the view of the countryside.
We had a superb 2 course dinner in the evening after pre-dinner drinks in the lounge bar. There was a great choice for breakfast and chef even tweaked a selection for one of us - no trouble at all. The staff are lovely and friendly and you are made to feel welcome. The Inn is a lovely place to stay when exploring the areas around East Neuk of Fife. Will definitely be back. Thank you Lee and to your team!

We were made to feel most welcome by the general manager Jack on our arrival who was friendly and knowledgeable. We were delighted to be upgraded to room 17 which was spotless, spacious and very well appointed with lovely views over the open fields nearby.
We were on an excellent value 2 night deal which was booked directly with the hotel which included dinner bed and breakfast on both nights and tea and scones- all delicious! The bar area is cosy and welcoming with a wood burning stove enhancing the atmosphere. Particularly good that this is a dog friendly hotel-much appreciated! keep up the good work guys can’t wait to return!

We had wanted to visit the East Neuk, and chose the Inn at Lathones based on recent good reviews. We stayed for 4 nights in one of the upstairs suites, which was very comfortable and well appointed. The views over the adjacent fields were rally enjoyable, and we even had glimpses of the sea in the distance. Jack escorted us to our room on arrival. Being a small inn, each member of staff is multifunctional, and they were all efficient, approachable and friendly. The restaurant provides a wide range of dishes on the dinner menu, and we enjoyed every meal we had. The breakfast menu is extensive and everything is cooked to order. Unusually dinner bills have to be settled up each evening, as nothing can be charged to the room, however once that is understood it's not a problem. We had opted for the £25 pp prepaid dinner allowance, which saves a little on the cost of dinners, and we recommend doing that. We had a small maintenance issue during our stay, which was remedied within 24 hours of reporting it, which is commendable.
Overall, this was an enjoyable stay, and we intend to return.

We visited the Inn this weekend, we had struggled to find accommodation that would accept us and our 2 dogs. Well if you've got dogs, want to explore the East Neuk and have the car with you then this is the best spot for you! We had breakfast and dinner at the Inn and our dogs were made very welcome, complete with their own bowl of water. The rooms are wooden floored and were of a good basic standard ( room 5) clean and a good size for all of us. The staff were excellent, the lovely young guy who served us at reception, dinner and breakfast is definitely future management material, completely professional but also very people conscious, we felt well looked after. The manager was a perfect gent and had no qualms about asking everyone if they were enjoying their meal etc.. We had a very restful stay, a great wee find..
If travelling with dogs book through the website to avoid paying charges for the dogs, this saved us around £48.
Tip
° You need the car, it's 5 miles from St Andrews

sHad a great stay at this gem of a hotel with lots of character. Mike the owner was very friendly and welcoming and took us to our room. Rooms are round a courtyard and most have outdoor seating areas which was great as weather was lovely. Room was comfortable and had everything we needed. Our room overlooked a main road but did not hear any noise at night. Dinner was amazing- cooked to order/piping hot with lots of fresh vegetables. Best meal we have had in a while. Also a great choice of cooked food for breakfast. Great location for exploring the East Neuk of Fife-5 miles from St Andrews and 6 miles from Crail. Will be definitely be back!

Hi - I got my hair for the wedding I went to done in St Andrews - the salon was called Spoiled. It was £30 for a wash and finish. If your wedding is in St Andrews itself I would recommend it.
