We stayed in the Tidewater Motel two years ago when we visited my brother that lives in Vinalhaven. He had already reserved a room for us before we arrived and we were extremely happy with his decision. On this trip we drove across the nation from California and of all the places that we stayed in it was by far...

I don't need a lot of variety in my life when it comes to vacations. What I do want and need is something that is predictable. The Tidewater Motel has never let me down. The view is incredible looking out from the patio door. The ocean, lobster boats, the sounds all remind me of home as I came from a...

We stayed at this hotel in September. The views were awesome. Open the windows, patio door and listen to the roar of the receding tide waters...AWESOME! It is not a "5 Star" hotel with all the perks of work out facilities, spa's etc.....but a very down to earth hotel. The owners take pride in their ownership, and their "Island Community"....

Being one of the few short-stay rentals on the island, the Tidewater sets the bar for service, comfort and location, and does it with with true Maine style. Its simple yet complete motel offerings are situated in the heart of the village with a mix of unit styles, many of which have views overlooking this working harbor. The ownership strives...

It's the view, the working harbor, the lovely people who own and manage the Motel, it's sitting on your deck outside of your room watching the sun set and the moon rise, it is a must for your travel wish list. The outside of the Motel looks ordinary, but once you open the door to your room everything changes... the...

The Tidewater looks like a vintage 1950's highway motel...but open the door of your ground floor room and enter a nicely furnished, ample but cozy, bright room with a balcony over the tidal inlet, and a spectacular view. The tide flows noisily in and out and provides a lovely backdrop to the fabulous view of the harbor and beyond. The...

The Tidewater is iconic lodging on lovely Vinalhaven. A comfy room over the tidal inlet with a view of the working harbor in the morning....nice bicycles for a tour around the island - and nice people both at the motel. If one is needing luxury and perfection - this is not the place - it's imperfect and therefore perfect for...

We stayed for almost 2 weeks at the Tidewater , Phil and his staff are the GREATEST . We travel a lot and this year wanted a relaxing vacation. The Tidewater is spotless clean and in a great location , Downtown Vinalhaven Maine. The tide flows right under the hotel and it puts you to sleep at night. We stayed...

Stayed at the Tidewater Motel 7/18-19 in the Harbormasters Suite.....HUGH! Phil and Carol are excellent hosts, and we had a blast on the island! Overall, motel is eclectic, but views are spectacular! Certainly would stay here again

We stayed with 2 kids and it was very quaint. It's definitely a little piece of Maine. The room was very clean and right over the water. The water rushing under the hotel was so soothing and relaxing. It's located in the center of town and everything is within walking distance. We brought our bikes over, however, they have bikes...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Tidewater Motel is built on a bridge separating Carver's Harbor to the south from Carver's Pond, its tidal estuary, to the north. The same rush of ocean water coming and going right under your harborside room once powered a blacksmith shop and grist mill on the site. Few views can equal those at the Tidewater and few places are as relaxing; the ebb and flow is nature's own sedative. Still, the world's most productive lobster fleet, anchored right outside your window, gets an early start, so you may not want to sleep in. Open year-round, the Tidewater is the island's only motel. If you want to be closer to the water, you'll have to get wet. ... more   less
