Claire and Richard are great hosts and have managed to strike the perfect balance between style, comfort, value and friendliness. The Briarcliff is now firmly on our map and with its very handy location to Great Barrington and many beautiful walks is an ideal base to explore the Berkshiresa

Traveled with husband and two kids (11 & 6). We usually stay at The Porches or Comfort Inn Great Barrington when we come to The Berkshires. The last few years at Comfort Inn were noisy and overpriced for what you get. We thought that Briarcliff looked unique & cute so we took a chance. The reception area is adorable &...

I was a bit disappointed by the Briarcliff. From what I had read, especially about the renovation, I was expecting the rooms and bathroom to be much more updated and a bit less tired and worn out. That said, the beds were surprising comfortable -- and the room was surprisingly quiet for being in a motel on a busy road....

God bless you all for taking the trouble to post on this site which, let's face it, wouldn't exist without you. It's certainly helped get our two-year-old project out there. But the more reviews we garner, the more we realise how subjective this whole process is. We've had guests who've compared the Briarcliff to André Balazs' place on Shelter Island,...

My family and I were on a recent road trip through New England to check out the Fall Foliage and stumbled upon The Briarcliff Motel. This renovated motel was quite charming from the moment you drive in to the rooms. Claire and Richard were extremely helpful offering up recommendations while we were in Great Barrington even as we continued on...

This old-fashioned strip motel from the 40s or 50s is in the process of being refurbished and modernized, but it isn’t there yet. All the rooms are identical and priced the same, but they are small and lacking in charm and amenities. Bathrooms are clean but small with showers, not tubs. Glass panels substitute for shower curtains, perhaps to stave...

I'm going to sound like a nerd, but as it happens we recently went through and measured all rooms again. The guest rooms of our 1960 motor lodge (which ISN'T on a strip), are 266 sq ft (or more). Before even seeing this place for the first time we consulted an architect who worked on big box hotels around here,...

My wife and I decided to take a road trip and ended a place to stay in Great Barrington. We stayed 2 nights and had a great stay. Claire and Richard were awesome and accommodated all of our needs. Super star service and guest experience at the top of their list. Very helpful. Scones, granola and coffee were a great way...

Generally speaking, we really liked this place. it allows dogs (for a fee), accommodates babies (which is always appreciated), has an awesome fire pit, includes a delicious breakfast, draws a really nice clientele, and is in a great location. It has a really lovely lobby area which is nice for chatting to other guests and asking questions of the owners...

Don't be fooled by the name - this is not a typical motel. The building is a quintessentially American 1950s style motel, just the kind you hope to find on a trip to the States, but inside it is comfortable and stylish, with the feel of a B&B. The breakfasts are delicious, using fresh local seasonal produce. The owners, Richard...

We stayed here one night on a month-long road trip in the Canadian Maritimes and New England. After so many different accommodations, it's easy to recognize a really special spot. The Briarcliff is ideally situated to explore the Berkshires and there is even trail access into the woods directly accross the street. The rooms are clean, spacious, and have thoughtful...

The Briarcliff was the first stop on our a coast to coast road trip. Honestly we couldn't have asked for a better start. Great rooms, wonderful breakfast and very nice surroundings. Had some highly interesting conversations with the hosts. Truly a great place to stay!
