Our first trip out since shielding in March and we picked this hotel for easy access to the new home of our daughter and family, both men (one was Sean ) on reception were extremely helpful as was the assistant serving a good selection of items for breakfast. Everything was well organised during this strange time we find ourselves experiencing . Our stay was very enjoyable, particularly the cream tea which was excellent. The rooms are furnished in keeping with the listed hotel , we had some interesting pieces of furniture in our room - I could see Jane Austen writing at the desk, and thankfully the bed was very comfortable, will definitely be staying again.

They entrance and lounge are stunning and are well maintained, as it the lovely restaurant, however the rooms are on the whole clean and functional but lack attention to detail (lots of dust in places that could be seen without looking; headboard light fittings etc) and also feel a bit dull and empty. We also had a clicking noise coming from the bathroom which we could not place; a minor irritation.

The spa is a little underwhelming, it is quite small but it wasn’t very busy so this wasn’t an issue. The jacuzzi was Luke warm as was the steam room but the sauna was nice. The general areas again lacked attention to detail with extremely dusty plants, mud on changing room floor and large areas of damaged floor tiles around service hatch’s in the floor and flaking paint and exposed plaster in some areas, but on the whole it was okay.

The restaurant is befitting of a much higher star rated establishment and deserves Michelin recognition, excellent high quality food presently well and served by friendly and accommodating staff in a nice Victorian style conservatory. Breakfast is a buffet style but to a very high standard with lots of choice, there was no vegetarian meat alternative but the chef was kind enough (and friendly) to cook some to order for my wife. Room service is not offered, but with a lovely restaurant who would want it.

This place is punching at the top end of 3 star but just lacks detail in certain areas which perhaps is what doesn’t give that 4th star. With a little refinement Owston hall would more than deserve more recognition. We enjoyed our stay but would perhaps only return for the restaurant and staff.

Rooms were quite large and clean, also a very spacious bathroom. Evening meal was average (we were there for a sunday roast and was quite surprised if you wanted mashed potatoes you had to pay an extra £3.00.) Breakfast was pretty good.
The biggest complaint we had was the security. We went to a pub for the evening which was approx 3-4 miles away, so the hotel ordered Taxis for our return journey at 11pm (fine we thought, Taxis picked us up between 11pm and 11.15pm when arriving back at hotel the the perimeter gates were locked. there was no answer when ringing the hotel, so we had to walk, now the problems started, there was no way to climb the locked gates, pitch black and not knowing where to go, two couples finally reached the hotel 3 HOURS later, why lock the gates when they knew that 5 taxis were due to arrive. We were not offered any explanation.

I visited as part of a group for a two day golf break the venue has seen better days everything is looking tired but then I guess this is reflected in the price we paid. In two of our rooms the showers failed to work a fairly fundamental item I can't believe the management were unaware off. Our twin room was spacious and the beds were comfy but the bathroom again was dated with broken and lose tiles on the floor and house keeping had missed the long brunette hairs in the shower tray left courtesy of a previous guest. The staff were helpful. Things didn't start well being unable to have a breakfast in the restaurant bacon baps only I am afraid as Chef only cooks enough for the guests the previous night! Drapes in the conservatory dirty and stained from leaking roof.

Sadly the course itself was no better tired unloved and dirty. It clearly could be a nice course but there was litter all over the place T Boxes were a mess littered again with broken T's and unrepaired divots the fairways were a mess with huge swathes of dying grass no doubt the drought hasn't helped but it looked like a fungal infection had taken hold in many places. The T's were in the main in a slightly better condition but the whole place just looked unloved with a lack of investment.

So the good news ? Apparently the hotel and course have a new owner and I hope they can turn it around.

My wife and I booked a two night stay in an executive suite, unfortunately due to, so we are lead to believe, COVID the pool and spa were unavailable, very disappointing. However this was not reflected in the price! Our first morning it was explained that cereal and toast were help yourself but our cooked order would be taken. This is in line with COVID rules.
However on our second morning breakfast was on a buffet basis! We were also informed that guests staying longer than one night would not have the room cleaned, I would have thought that this is the time when it is important cleanliness is observed.
Overall we had a nice room, comfortable bed, decent bathroom facilities and while other reviews mention an excellent breakfast I personally found it to be mediocre.
I got the impression the they had staffing issues.

Unfortunately, I only stay here once a year when working in the area but love it.
Fantastic surroundings set in a great looking golf course, really nice hotel and restaurant area.
Requested high floor and that’s what I got, loads of space and nice bathroom with a large TV.
Restaurant menu was good and lots of drinking areas around the restaurant including a snooker room which has SKY sports.
Also, made full use of the pool and sauna.
The bar has all your usual drinks but £7.50 for a poor quality Pinot was a little poor.
Another tiny issue was breakfast,it looked fantastic and really looking forward to tucking in as I had a long day in front of me.Cold,Cold &Cold. Poor.
Couldn’t be bothered with the hassle of reheating.
Apart from that I will be back next year.

Spent three nights at Owston Hall in August 2020, while on a 20-man golfing trip. Although the rest of the party had contremporary rooms in the main hotel, I had two different rooms in the Coach House as I was a single traveller and would say that while they are pretty basic they were fine for the limited time I was here.

On the catering front, the food was very good (even our large party were given a decent choice of three-course meals separate from the other guests), while the service is perfect. Special thanks go to Robyn who was a bundle of energy and solved an issues we may have had, while Sean on reception was a great help on a payment issue.

If you're looking for an inexpensive golfing weekend, give it a try. The course itself needs a bit of work done on the greens but it's a decent parkland challenge with some quirky holes.

Despite being down on staff because of COVID the whole hotel was clean and the welcoming feel was made better by all the staff we encountered who were friendly pleasant and helpful. The room was clean, modern and well maintained. The bar well stocked and the cooked breakfast was fresh, well presented, tasty and filling.
Top notch.

Stayed at hotel for 3 nights whilst working. The care, attention and general all round service I received was well beyond any expectation. It has been a long time since I can honestly say I have received this standard of service. Absolutely nothing was too much trouble and I felt so looked after and made to feel of great importance. Robyn, Jackie and Sean deserve recognition for their professional service/conduct and high standard of dedicated care towards each and every customer, true assets to this hotel. The room was Magnificent but it was these three staff were the highlight of my stay, thankyou and I am looking forward to my next stay.

Had a 3 round golf break last week including two nights dinner, bed and breakfast and my friend and I had a very positive experience. The golf course along with the hotel itself are currently undergoing improvements and we were very impressed with the current manager who took a keen interest in our views on everything from the breakfasts to the golf course. He knows what direction he wants the business to go in and has made a great start by employing some friendly customer focussed staff and tidying up the golf course, which to be honest played very well and considering the drought we are having was a decent condition. I would recommend this place to anyone for an overnight stay.
