Detailed Reviews
The room was spacious and warm with ample storage. Breakfast and the set dinner included much home produce and were freshly prepared and in generous quantities, it was difficult not to over eat!
This is not a five star boutique hotel but you will be warm, welcomed and well fed by your hostess in a beautifully relaxed setting.
Juliet and Lucy were mines of information about where to go and what to see and even contacted us on Unst to warn of changes to the ferry timetable which saved us several hours of sitting on a dockside waiting to get back.
The shop/café provides souvenirs, including some wonderful framed photos of local birds, as well as foodstuffs.
Despite some iffy weather we had a great time, enjoyed excellent views of many birds, despite the bird flu, and managed a number of walks around the coast.
A holiday to remember with pleasure.

Fetlar has been a beautiful surprise and I am so glad I decided to spend a night here. Nature.. flowers, green grass, nesting birds, sheeps, cows, the ocean..
Gord house is warm and welcoming.. the room was comfortable and I can only imagine the view from that window when the trees lose their leaves in winter. The host did everything she could to make me feel at home. Dinner (included in the price) was superb: well served and cooked.. everything was gluten free (since I am celiac) and tasty. 2 dishes and a dessert (stuffed eggs, chicken wrapped in bacon, potatoes, ice cream, meringues,..) Breakfast (included in the price) was amazing too: tea, eggs, mushrooms, butter, jelly, gluten free toast, bacon.. Price absolutely correct for the services offered and so worth -> good value. I will definitely come back if I get the chance and recommend it to anyone. Thanks for having me!

We were very well looked after by Juliet who contacted us to let us know the electricity would be turned off for a few hours. She made us a flask for when we arrived which was much appreciated. Lovely hearty and wholesome evening meals. Great porridge and 4 fresh fruits provided. Juliet is a mine of information about the island. We had some lovely walks with amazing views. A great stay. Thank you very much. We would love to come again.

Fetlar is beyond the back of beyond and Gord is a well appointed and comfortable guest house, adjoining the island shop and off licence. My room was clean and bright with a few down to a shingle beach and headland. The meals were superb - proper home cooking and exceptionally generous portions. You can buy your own wine next door to have with your evening meal. Excellent base for birdwatchers.

Such a lovely cosy place to stay. Really friendly welcome and the food is wonderful - especially the homemade soups. My bed was so comfortable it was difficult to get out of! So peaceful and quiet, great place to recharge your batteries and chill out.

In the course of visiting some of the places on Fetlar where relations used to live we spent a night at the Gord B and B on Fetlar. We didn’t meet Juliet but were looked after by her sister Lucy.
Our room was fairly spacious with its own bathroom and tea/coffee making facilities. It was more functional than gorgeous, and the bed wasn’t terribly comfortable. The Wi-Fi signal was good although we couldn’t get any mobile phone coverage through our Australian Telco partner in the UK.
Given the lack of anywhere else serving dinner on the island we opted for the Bed, dinner and breakfast option at 75GBP per person. While the breakfast had a range of options and generous portions we were disappointed with the dinner.
Although we had responded to a request for advice about dietary restrictions some months before by saying that one of us didn’t eat offal we were served pork liver and ‘pheasant’ pate first, with no alternative on offer. The main course was lasagne with lettuce, and the dessert was vanilla ice cream and some kiwifruit and stone fruit.
Overall we didn’t think the evening meal was worth the price of GBP 20 per person. We brought our own wine however the shop next door that Lucy also runs now sells alcohol. With the large kitchen not being used in the evening we could have easily have self-catered if that option had been offered.
If we came back to Fetlar I think we’d investigate staying at Yell and coming over for the day.

I am sorry that you were disappointed with your stay. I wish you had felt able to discuss this with us before your departure. You were in the large double room which previous guests have found very comfortable. Obviously we cannot be responsible for poor mobile phone coverage – several networks including Vodafone have good coverage on Fetlar but others do not. As you point out our wi-fi works well with reasonable internet speeds. The price quoted was inclusive of bed, breakfast and evening meal. We do not normally quote a separate price for dinner but even at £20 for a three course dinner with coffee, including VAT, we are surprised at your suggestion that this represented poor value. Your first course was pheasant pate which one member of your party said he thoroughly enjoyed and finished what was provided for your other party member. You also expressed satisfaction about the main course which was home made lasagne using beef from our own farm. The fruit used in the desert was all fresh - we try to ensure that fresh salad, vegetables and fruit are included in every dinner as these can sometimes be in short supply in the northern isles. We invite guests to purchase drinks through our shop if they wish to enjoy a drink with their evening meal but made no issue of you bringing your own, and stored your beer in the kitchen fridge. This is not a self catering operation and we therefore are not able to permit guests to use the kitchen – we provide self catering accommodation elsewhere on Fetlar. I am glad that you were happy with the breakfast.

I stayed at Gord B&B, Fetlar during the first week of August 2016. Apparently there had been a change as to who was looking after the B&B.The cafe and shop were closed and no food was available during the day. Poor people who had expected this were disappointed, including me. Luckily I had booked an evening meal and the accomadation and evening meal were fine. I was not made to feel particularly welcome but as I say in my title it was bad timing however I was a paying guest who had taken the trouble to journey to Fetlar. Two people cancelled their bookings I considered it, but decided to stay as it would have thrown my plans out so I made the most of what Fetlar had to offer.
There are a variety of walks, beaches, hills, cliffs and even a bird hide so the walking and sights were enjoyable. To be positive once Sarah returned to manage the B&B things improved. I found that I could use the dial a ride service to access different areas to allow more walking time. The Fetlar Interpretive Centre at the Beach of Houbie, is in a central location within the island. It is a community museum awarded a Visit Scotland four-star tourist attraction and it was an excellent place to spend time especially during rainy days. The volunteers were friendly and helpful. There was some very good locally made woolen and felted gift items for purchase.
I did enjoyed Fetlar but would I return again? not sure. I saw better wildflowers on Bressay and more spectacular birds on Noss. I understand that the new owners have plans for a movie theatre and spa at Gord B&B.Considerable money would need to be invested in the shop and cafe and the B&B.
I wish them well I think Fetlar, the island needs some love and care and the visitors as well.

After a long cycle on a dull, cloudy, and bitterly cold day Gord B&B was a lucky destination. We were given a cheerful warm welcome by the couple who are in the process of taking over from the previous owner. The rooms were snug and cosy, with all usual amenities (ensuite, TV etc). A small sitting room was also available. There was complimentary tea/coffee and biscuits on arrival, an excellent 3 course dinner served in a room next to the kitchen with candlelight, and a delicious cooked breakfast. Gord is easy to find at the side of the road in Houbie, connected to a shop, temporarily closed while the new owners get sorted. They have ideas for renovation, expansion, and improvement so an already excellent little B&B looks like it might get even better.
