The Royal Oak is a small traditional family run hotel ideally situated in the "Heart of Borrowdale", six miles south of Keswick. Once an 18th Century farmhouse, it has been established as a walkers' hotel for over 100 years. Our English breakfasts and home cooked dinners sustain even the most energetic and although we do not provide a choice, we take great care to select varied and appealing menus. Packed Lunches and special diets are also available.

We stayed in room 6, a large room with a double bed and a single bed. Sheets and blankets were a welcome option. The beds were a bit on the soft side for my taste, but I'm sure others would find them fine. There was an ensuite shower room, but no bath. Overall it was a bit on

My son and I stayed here on or coast to coast walk last week. First impressions were of faded elegance, but as we settled in we started to appreciate the charm of a place that seems to belong in another era. Having deposited our bags and hung our clothes in the drying room, we

Me, my wife a friend and his wife stayed here for 2 nights during the bank holiday weekend. We checked in pretty late for the hotel standards around 8.45pm. The only place where we can get food is the bar next door (The Riverside Inn). We had our dinner there. The hotel is
