We spent three weeks at this hotel. I was working for two weeks and the wifi was really strong and stable. The staff were outstanding, they did everything they could to make us feel comfortable and relaxed. We asked for vegan food and everyday they served delicious vegan food, even if it wasn’t on the menu. The chefs were really good at their work. Once a week dinner was served in the garden with really good local music, and once a week dinner was served by the pool with local live music as well. The rooms are cozy and have everything you need. The rooms are cleaned every day by the cute cleaning ladies and they also spray the rooms to avoid mosquitoes every evening. The pool was cleaned every day as well. The only thing that wasn’t perfect was the beach, due to the tide and the sales men, we didn’t go to the beach very often. But even if the beach weren’t perfect we really enjoyed our three relaxing weeks when we were swimming in the pool, chilling, watching the cute monkeys and were spoiled by the outstanding staff; no one mentioned, no one forgotten <3 We will be back!

I went to Filao on the east coast of Zanzibar with a friend of mine. We came from Safari and thought we would spend 6 days in a resort doing nothing and enjoy the paradise we saw on the brochures. We entered and it seemed like a paradise because the structure is small but really beautiful: small cottages surrounded by greenery, a beautiful pool, a beach bar, a volleyball/beach tennis net to play on the beach (they have both the ball and 2 beach tennis rackets but I would recommend to take two more to organize any matches for guests), a field to play "petanque" and a play area for children.
The rooms are clean maybe not bright, but equipped with air conditioning and ceiling blades and every evening they pass with mosquito treatment in the room. Maybe the bathroom should be modernized to be up to the beauty of the structure, but still it’s okay too.
The food is very good. Definitely the strengths of Filao are: the staff that is top starting from Baby - our favorite! - who followed us from the beginning, but everyone else is also very nice, kind and always smiling and entertaining. Fahd organizes everyday a theme evening to entertain guests (eg: casinò, pool party, Masai dance, bonfire dance on the beach, etc..) and during the day together with Iddi organizes petanque tournaments and once a week a walk in the nearby village that allowed us to get in touch with local people. This was Top! If I were in Filao resort I would promote it as a main service.
The real problem of the structure, however, is the sea because of the phenomenon of tides that affects all of Zanzibar. The north of Zanzibar is impacted much less by this phenomenon than the east coast, but the costs of resorts in the north and distances with stone town and other places of interest are greater than the east coast resorts and therefore perhaps less convenient also because of the cost of travel on top (but this is a subjective choice! Returning to Zanzibar we would reschedule the east coast). To overcome this problem, however, Filao provides a free shuttle 2 times a week (and is an added value of Filao) to go across the bay to kae beach (Paradise beach) which, in our opinion, was the most beautiful place in Zanzibar that we saw because here the low tide discovers the wonderful natural landscapes, there is still the possibility to swim because the water is higher and the color of the beach is so white to blind (only in the Seychelles it was so) in addition to the fact that it is a wild place frequented only by guests of the twin resort of Filao and not by the millions of tourists who flock to the well-known beaches of zanzibar! For the other days where there is no shuttle service to Paradise beach, of course excursions must be made (for these advice from Marco that you find on the beach!).

Summing up we recommend Filao resort and if one day we should decide to return to Zanzibar we would go back because it makes you feel like family.

Quite a disappointing stay due to misleading advertising. The Deluxe Ocean View room was nowhere near the ocean and a tiny view of the sea at a stretch and the room was very dark.. Aircon was weak and humidity is about 90% each day. The hot water cylinder had to be replaced on day one as it was broken. Lights in bathroom were not working and replaced on day 2. The beach as advertised is misleading as you cannot swim in the sea. There is a 45 minute boat trips 3 times a week to another resort beach which is offered, but dependent on tide conditons. Many guests shared similar comments on this lack of information. Resort is about an hour away from Stone Town and taxis charge about a 60 dollar fee for a return trip. Resort should offer free shuttles to guests to Stone Town once a day. Food was average and if you don't have an all inclusive package, it can be very expensive as there is nowhere else to eat close by. Staff are however excellent! The off-road dirt road to the resort is shocking and can't see why it has not been improved upon. Overall a very disappointing stay and sorry, wont be back.

I went for my first solo vacation. And i can say it was great!! The people working at the filao beach resort made me feel very welcome. And altough i was traveling alone, i never felt lonely! The road to get here is very bumpy but when you get to the reception and look down on the resort it looks like paradise. The food was good en fresh. The beach was nice you can take long walks on it in peace. sometimes there was no water but later on the day the water would return to the beach (depends on the moon) there is a nice pool wich was clean. And many activity’s to do. I went to the mikumi safari and it was a great experience to see the animals from close distance in their natural habitat. You can also go to beautifull beaches on the island and swim with turtles or go to varios bechparty’s. i went to the reception to ask for a taxi to go to a party, one of the workers (James) joined me to a party twice! (He knows the good spots!) It was great!!! I had an amazing time here by myself. I want to thank the managment and especially the workers for giving me a fantasic time at the paradise filao beach by sansi!

We had an amazing 5-day stay in the resort. The staff there is extremely friendly, we met Zawty from the main restaurant staff, she was very nice and wanted to help us with all our needs. Also, we met James from the main Bar, we enjoyed long talking hours and he was very helpful as well.

In general, Filao Beach is an unforgettable experience and people ❤

An wonderful resort on the East coast of Zanzibar, Filao beach by Sansi offers a truly magnificent Zanzibarian experience! The staff is very friendly, almost the entire staff are locals, some of them being Maasai Mara.
P.S.: Don't miss the Maasai Mara dance show at the beach bar!
The conditions are awesome, all beds have safety nets against mosquitoes, the food is great and the cuisine offer has a lot of variety. The swimming pool is clean at all times. The only problem is the ocean low tide and the fact that you cannot know in advance the time of the low tide.
Overall 5 stars out of 5! Hakuna matata!

The experience all in all was very good.
The staff were very greeting and kind.
The infrastructure in itself is good. It just felt like it needed that extra something to turn in into a 5 star location (but still very good).
The pool, parties and food were very very good.
A big shoutout to Fahd for his kindness and help during the trip.

The only small improvements needed is the reaction time of the reception. It takes a couple of hours normally for them to get you what you ask for (even if it's coffee and cream sachets). But nothing major

And in a dream I went to Zanzibar, to a small, beachside hotel with a lush garden containing all the sounds of nature. Beyond it lay a bay around which fishermen sailed their boats and walked the shores.  In the hotel everyone greeted everyone with 'jambo' and there was a spirit of kindness so that everyone and everything was cared for. Nassoor served drinks whilst Iddi organised workouts and Ibrahim organised trips. Robert's Maasai team managed security and Sabria's team managed the garden. Many others worked wonders around the rooms, the restaurant, the spa and reception. By the end of the dream, this place was my home. I woke up and explained it all to my wife. She smiled and told me I must be really tired from our trip and that this place really exists, that we really swam with the dolphins and fed the turtles, smelt spices on the farm and saw red colobus monkeys in the trees. I closed my eyes, smiling too, and returned myself into the arms of Africa. Usiku mwema.

The resort has a beautiful set-up with an almost jungle-like feeling due to many trees and typical houses. The food is exceptional, they serve something different every day. The staff is so friendly that you feel like part of the family, they are very interested and willing to make your stay perfect!

Hello, there is a person organising trips available at the hotel. We went to Josani park with him. It was OK. There is also a small massage room. My wife used it once and was satisfied. Although it is not a real spa. Just a massage bed in a small wooden house with the view of the ocean :) Enjoy your trip!
