Detailed Reviews
Beautiful and comfortable rooms paired with excellent meals made for a wonderful relaxing week with Richard and Alex and fellow guests. Richards walking notes were fantastic which ensured that we always made it back to the B and B safely and with a healthy appetite, which was great as Alex's meals were wonderful! We did 5 of the walks including the 21km, and enjoyed every moment.

We and 2 other couples stayed at Jardin du Segala for a week min September.
The long, windy, uphill road may make one wonder if they are actually lost. The road is lined with beautiful forests, small creeks, immaculately kept farmlands and picturesque countryside. When it finally opens up to the quaint little village that Jardin du Segal is a part of, you will realise that you have lucked upon a gem.
Since J du S is tucked away in the countryside it is unbelievably quiet and refreshing. The church bells that ring at 8am echoing through the hills is magical.
Each of our bedrooms were tastefully decorated and had extra pillows and blankets to make sure we were comfortable. We appreciated that each room had their own ensuite/bathroom.
Needless to sat we slept very well.
We had decided before our trip to take advantage of the Evening Dinners & Walking Holiday package. Best decision we could have made. After a long day of hiking it was wonderful to be able to come back to J du S shower-up, regroup in the parlour, chat about our day and with the wonderful aromas coming from the kitchen anticipate what was for dinner.
Alex prepared a wide variety of delicious meals using local meats, cheeses, herbs and produce. Actually a lot of the produce and herbs came directly from her garden. Breakfasts were ample and delicious as well. We had a selection of breads, yoghurt with fresh fruit and yummy homemade jams.
Each evening Richard would gauge by our interests and energy level which hikes we would fit our wishes for the following day. We were never disappointed in the least.
Both Richard and Alex were very attentive to us we did not want in the least.
We Highly recommend Jardin du Segala

After two weeks at Jardin du Segala I didn't want to leave. Alex and Richard became more like friends than proprietors. Their care for us was wonderful and we really felt that their home and garden were ours. Their well-researched walks kept us looking forward every day to more discoveries in the beautiful Lot countryside with its mediaeval villages. No two walks were the same, wildlife and flowers were abundant. Evenings were given over to equally varied, well-judged and excellent four-course meals at which we enjoyed relaxed conversation amongst ourselves and with our hosts. If your aim is to recharge your batteries and stretch your legs, I can't recommend Jardin du Segala highly enough.

Setting up a holiday for a group of friends can be somewhat nervewracking if you have not stayed there before yourselves. However we need not have worried at all with this guesthouse and the hosts Richard and Alex.
Richard responded efficiently and quickly to my initial enquiries. Once booked everything went extremely smoothly - very necessary as Jardin du Segala is tucked away in delightful rural France.
Our hope was that we would have interesting varied walks within easy striking distance and, when not walking, enjoy ourselves in both the local area and the accommodation. We were not disappointed at all.
Full marks Richard and Alex for looking after us all so well.

A group of five friends keen on gentle self guided walks in beautiful countryside visited this gem of a modernised old farmhouse chambre d'hote in the Lot Department of France.
The English hosts, Richard and Alex, were very welcoming and we all felt at home.
The accommodation was comfortable, clean and well appointed, with a pleasant accessible garden and facilities for dining outside when the weather allowed. Towels were changed midweek and bed linen weekly.
For us, the location was fine, but a car is a must as the nearest shops/ restaurants are a 15 minute drive away.
Richard is very knowledgeable about the walking not only locally but also into the Dordogne and Cantal. His route maps and descriptions made navigation easy. His advice about which walks to do were tailored to the weather and our interests.
Both Richard and Alex are very knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna and in a 2 week period we identified nearly 50 bird species.
Returning "home" after a good walk, there was the option of an inclusive cup of tea, and a pre - prandial aperitif of walnut wine was available for €2.50 a glass.
The four course evening meal cooked by Alex was magnificent, accompanied by our choice of white or red wine as part of the deal.
On their once a week night off we took advice on which restaurants to visit, and weren't disappointed . The local food is fantastic.
If you want great walking, great food and great hosts, this is it!

We cannot recommend Jardin du Segala highly enough. This was our third visit (most unusual for us!) and it was so very enjoyable. Richard and Alex are outstanding hosts and offer a very warm welcome into their beautiful home with three delightfully-appointed bedrooms. Alex's breakfasts and dinners are really delicious and creative - always freshly cooked from local ingredients. Richard has an enormous knowledge of the area and has produced an excellent booklet of walks. He can advise you on the different varieties of walks - from very easy to very challenging - over different terrains, including lakes and mountains. Terrifically helpful! Both Richard and Alex are also very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna in the area, including unusual orchids. For visitors who are interested in history, there is a wealth of outstanding medieval towns and villages that can comfortably be visited during the day. It is a beautifully natural and unspoilt area. The nearby little town of St Céré is a very friendly spot with very few tourists and some lovely ancient squares and buildings. Very easy to reach from Brive airport.

Our visit was September 2014. What a great hosting team!... and our accommodations were delightful! If you want a vacation that is different and off the beaten path, then this is it! Richard provides great guidance for you to choose the right trek for you to explore the countryside and remote villages, returning to wonderful meals prepared by Alex. She delivers a great variety of French cuisine tailored to your preferences, and a breakfast fit to set you course into the mountains. Our vacation photos don't look like anybody else's I've seen. FYI: We highly recommend a reliable GPS for this neck of the woods.

Jardin du Segala is the ideal, "get away from it all" location. The journey up the twisty road through wooded hills suggests you are heading somewhere quite special.; you are!
This really is a lovely place to stay and lived up to all our expectations. A lovely building, comfortable rooms all thoughtfully decorated to enhance the charm of this lovely building. Alex and Richard are the perfect hosts who provided us with a warm welcome making our short stay most enjoyable, how I wished we had stayed longer than three nights.
With no restaurants or shops in the village it's advisable to book dinner and enjoy Alex's wonderful cooking, you won't be disappointed. Richard is always on hand with advise on interesting places to visit including his walking tours.. We left thinking "this really is the place to live out the dream of moving to France"

We very much enjoyed our first visit to the Jardin du Ségala. We soon felt at home in the comfortable surroundings, and appreciated the hospitality of Alex and Richard. Alex is a great cook, and there is nothing better than dining alfresco (keep an eye out for the red squirrel).
The information on places to visit and walking notes are very helpful, especially if you are exploring the area for the first time as we were. The nearest town, St Céré, is a useful place to buy food for a picnic, with an excellent boulangerie. However, the best aspect of the location is the easy access to the Lac du Tolerme a few minutes drive away. This reservoir has a beach with good swimming and a cafe; very welcome after getting hot and sweaty walking!
