We got to Up North Michigan (lower peninsula) a day early. The RV park couldn't accommodate us. It's busy season so most everything was full. We went by Northwoods Lodge and they had a cancellation. There was just the two of us, but as you can see they have family size rooms, too. Staff was friendly and somewhat cross trained. It was the maintenance man that got us a room until the regular front office person arrived!

This is our family’s go-to place to stay when needed. Most recently, our cabin flooded and we were in a pinch at 1am. Northwoods Lodge answered our call at 1am! Sent one of their lovely staff members to greet me and got me into a room for the weekend. I am so happy with the room; it was warm, comfortable, and cozy. The staff are incredibly friendly, welcoming, and caring. I highly recommend this lodge to everyone!

When we arrived we had to call to have someone come to the desk to give us our room key. Our room smelled strongly of cleaning products which was nice to know it was freshly cleaned but it was a little much, thankfully it aired out. Bed was kind of soft and jiggly every time one of us moved the other could feel it. Could’ve used a 4th pillow. I was told there was a snowshoe trail near the hotel but the desk personnel had no idea about any trails or the Winterfest that was going on downtown. We did end up finding a nature preserve nearby which was beautiful. We did the Big Bear Adventure winter raft trip which was great. We got a granola bar and muffin at the breakfast. Two little signs in the room saying don’t use the towels to wash your pets or car. The towels were nice quality. I thought the Christmas tree in the room was cute. It was a convenient place to stay, spacious room fridge and microwave, it was cozy and we enjoyed our time there.

Nobody was at Northwoods Lodge, all dark and locked when I arrived on Fri., Jan. 13, at 4:30 p.m. for two nights previously booked, 50% paid. I was expected. Temp was in teens, cold wind and snowing. 'Waited 20 minutes after phoning the number taped to the door for someone to drive up to assist me. Meanwhile, it got dark, and I got very cold waiting. A somber man gave me a room key, no smile, no directions about where my room was located. I had to ask. No lights in lodge lobby, no fire in cold stove. Dismal and creepy place. My room was clean but cold, and there was no extra blanket. No phone in room. Toilet was broken. No hospitality note to guests about anything such as ice machine, extra blanket, no clock, no radio. No directions to nearby restaurants, nothing about anything. In short, as much ambience as a storage locker. A clean room with a door that locks. I returned for "breakfast included" next morning at $126/night. Still cold stove, dreary place, nobody greeted me. No guest but me. Not my kind of breakfast. No toaster, no fruit, no yoghurt, OK coffee served in tiny plastic cups. No cream. Only sweet waffles with corn syrup, packaged sweet rolls, very stale bagels, and cold cereal. When I returned to the front lobby/office mid-morning to check on the noon float trip arrangements in tandem with this lodge, I could not enter. The door was locked again. All was dark inside. I waited until past noon, but nobody came. I had missed the mid-day float trip connection. Since my stay at Northwoods Lodge two weeks ago, I have been unsuccessful in talking with the owner although I have called and left messages three times. Yes, the room was clean, but the Northwoods Lodge I experienced was very, very creepy. It should not be open if this is how it is run.

Mid-Sept stay of 3 nights. Had to change rooms after first night due to availability. First King room upstairs and bed was very firm but ok. Pillows were flat. Room was very clean and in very good condition. Second room was a Queen on first floor . Bed was VERY hard and we asked for & received extra pillows. Room was clean and nice however it was humid from the floor- could have used a dehumidifier. We loved the well done rooms and how clean they were. Did not like the bed. Breakfast was make your own waffles and baggies of small donuts, bagels, etc.

My family (2 & 4 yo) stays in July 21 and it was a perfect time. The staff was so friendly and funny! They offered us ideas with fun things to do and warned us of road blocks. The breakfast was delicious. We liked that the rooms had plenty of room for two toddlers to play!

We stayed here for a week and it was great. The staff were all very friendly, the room was cleaned daily. I loved the rustic feel of everything. The rooms are practically sound proof, there were other guests staying there but we didn't hear the bumping and banging that you usually hear in a hotel. It is in a great location for quick driving distance to Indian River, Petoskey, Gaylord, Mackinaw City. My only complaint... the mattress was hard, otherwise, it was a great stay. Will go back

Very clean and very friendly. The rooms have a cozy lodge feeling - wood panel ceilings and such - as well as excellent double windows on both sides of the room. You get trees out the back window. The motel is closer to the road than I expected but there wasn't any noise problem and a good view of hills and trees on the horizon. There was plenty of wood at the fire pit, but it was too cold for us to sit out there after a day outside. This was a perfect pandemic getaway because every room has its own entrance. also, there's a microwave and mini fridge in the room for take out dining. We rented cross country skiis and also did the winter raft trip at Big Bear Adventures right down the road. We also drove 30 minutes to Boyne highlands to ski for a day. We didn't go to any restaurants because fo the pandemic, but the town looks like it would be a lot of fun in the summer months. the motel is a mile or two up the road from the town - no sidewalks but you could walk down the bike/snowmobile trail across the road. My only complaint is that the pillows are hard.

My husband and I stayed at this lodge on our first year anniversary in 1996. They were under construction at the time, funny thing about it is we were on vacation and my husband is a contractor. So he was like "oh no I am on vacation to get away from hearing the sounds of construction" and I thought "Oh boy" but it was a beautiful lodge. The staff was amazing and even gave us a tour of the Bridal suite. It was beautiful clean and loved the setting and the furniture. Awesome! We would love to come back. We celebrated 25 years this year (2020). Thanks you keep up the great work!
