We stayed at the lodge for a few nights in August. Good: Pricing was comparable to others in area. Pool was very nice. Rooms are nicely set up for a family trip. Bad: Bar hours were not accurate No breakfast if staying midweek Many rooms were left open with beds stripped but not made making the lodge seem disorganized Ironwood... More

If you are a snooty traveler, you won't like BRL. But frankly, you won't like most of the Upper Peninsula either, so you'd be much happier planning a trip to a place with fancier options. If you are up for a down-home country-style laid back blue-collar vacation, the U.P and BRL are both good options for you. It is a... More

So grateful to have found Black River Lodge online. My 23 yr. old Daughter & I took our first U.P. "Falls" tour and Brittany and Justin were very helpful in the manner that they ran their business and all the information on different places to go and see. We were very grateful and have made new friends that run this... More

We stayed at the lodge for one night during a waterfall adventure weekend. Our room for three was more than adequate, it was a suite with two bathrooms and for beds. The room was clean and the breakfast was OK. We enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub our 10 miles of hiking in the Porcupine Mountains. The lodge is near... More

Recently spent five nights with Brittany and Justin - owners of Black River Lodge. Our rooms fit the needs for our group but the extras made the visit special. Full size lap pool for the swimmers in the group. Recommendations of what to visit from Brittany. Commons areas that gave us space to relax and have comfortable conversations. Deck and... More

Thank you so much for the review of our lodge and amenities! You nailed it with your title. Living at the lodge as on-site managers, we like to think of it as a "big mansion" that we get to share with our guests... not fancy.. but definitely comfortable. We are certainly glad you enjoyed the stay and we look forward... More

My fiancé and I took a surprise trip to this beautiful family owned lodge. He's been here several times and this was my first, but MOST DEFINITELY not my last. We stayed in the Honeymoon suite with a (super comfy) king bed and jacuzzi tub, which is centered at the top front of the lodge over looking the mountainside. The... More

As a woman traveling alone 3+ hours to the ski hills I could not feel safer and more at home here! BRL is a short trip from all of the hills and trails but rarely have a reason to venture out. Can't say much nice about the place. They have a lot to learn about treatment of guests vs constantly telling you their policies. It's in need of updating to say the least. As for details. It has a pool with a jacuzzi. It's located near the local ski resorts. There is a bar on the lower level with pool table... More

We apologize that your stay at the lodge did not meet your standards. We have made many new friends with people who have stayed as our guests. It’s unfortunate you didn’t have the same experience. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Welcome to Black River Lodge, hotel lodging in the Western Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Located only 10 minutes north east of Ironwood, Michigan on the Black River Scenic Byway, the Lodge is ideal for those looking to escape the everyday and relax in a serene country setting. Come where the northern lights dance, the coyote howl, deer roam and the unique Northwoods themed lodge rooms, condo suites, townhouses, and campground await your arrival. Black River Lodge is a family owned-and-operated lodge with an established reputation of offering the most memorable of weddings, reunions, group retreats, and get-away weekends. Classified as a hotel, most do not realize that the lodge in its current form is operated similar to an "oversized" bed and breakfast (family-friendly of course!). This makes Black River Lodge a rare find and the best of both worlds for travelers in the Western Upper Peninsula Accommodations are unique in that you will not find your typical cookie-cutter hotel room. With innkeepers living right on site, you know you're going to receive personal attention and service unlike any other. Sitting on 65 acres of forests and trails with direct access to the Black River, there are many adventures to enjoy. The area has much to offer such as downhill and Nordic skiing, snowmobile trails, snowshoeing, campfires, volleyball, horseshoes, waterfalls, Lake Superior hikes, fishing, golf, bicycling, hiking, or just relaxing with a good book. Guests are very special and from the moment of your arrival, the Lodge will offer warm hospitality and excellent facilities. Justin, Brittany, their family and staff are committed to providing a quality Northwood's experience. Rest assured, here you will come as guests and leave as friends!
