The Dempsey Manor bills itself as a destination for the discriminating traveler, but it falls way short. The first indication should have been the multiple page list of rules that are sent via email AFTER you have booked and paid. You must check in between the hours of 4 and 6pm on your first day or you are charged on...

Jan and I thank our wonderful guests for all their reviews. We constantly ask our guests to give us their tips and suggestions for making their stay - and the stay of future guests - more enjoyable. We welcome all constructive criticism...it sustains our success as a five-star inn and helps us and our guests to develop the warm friendships...

This is a charming old mansion with history and antiques. The owners do their very best to help you feel comfortable. They love their house and they love to help you love it. The spacious bedrooms decorated in the old era, make you feel like "being" in the past. The mansion is within a short walking distance to down town.The...

My husband surprised me with this lovely gem of a place! We spent most of our honeymoon exploring northern Michigan & the M-22 to see fall colors & hike. The Dempsey Manor was the perfect location for our base. We were swept away by the feel of living in a totally different time period. Jim & Jan are such genuine...

We drove past Dorsey Mannor twice not expecting we would be staying in an outstanding Mansion. We were greeted by our Hostess, Jan, who provided our initial warm reception. Every room in the house is uniquely decorated and a lesson in history. Unfortunately our Host, Jim, was a bit under the weather so we only talked one morning, what an...

We love B&Bs. Jim and Jan encapsulate what is best about a great B&B experience. They love their house and they love to help you love it too. This is a true labor of love for both of them and it is reflected in their approach. We live in a fairly uncluttered FLW style home and therefore enjoy occasionally emersing...

Thank you for the very kind words! Abigail thanks you, too. She takes her role as official greeter seriously. In her mind I don't think she ever meets a stranger, only new friends! Can't say enough about how great this place is. Owners have lovingly kept and upgraded the house to the period of its magnificence - late 1890s and early 1900s. The hosts are fascinating, but not overbearing. They accommodated some dietary needs for breakfast - so don't be shy about tellitng them what you want or need. If you like a...

Thank you for your very kind review. Words and praise like yours keep Jan and I working hard to deserve them. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Dempsey Manor is the discerning traveler's destination, the ultimate Bed and Breakfast experience. Take a Tour at DempseyManorBandB. Dempsey Manor B&B shines among Michigan's finest and most impressive specialty Inns. Situated in the famous Victorian Port City of Manistee, MI, it is bordered on three sides by lakes and rivers. This perfectly-sited 8000-square-foot historic, Lumber-Baron Mansion provides a full-service, authentically restored Victorian environment for enjoying a unique storybook experience. Large, lavishly decorated and furnished Guest Rooms offer the latest in comfortable beds and modern amenities. Carefully chosen and placed appointments appeal to travelers who appreciate a lost age. Most Guest Rooms include antique-tiled and carved-wood fireplaces, walk-in closets, ten-foot-plus ceilings with elaborate moldings, period reproduction wallpapers, dramatic draperies, original and period chandeliers and wall fixtures, fine 19th century (and earlier) works of art and objets, Victorian overstuffed [read: comfy] furniture with Oriental rugs throughout. A lovely mix of single Guest Rooms, ample Guest Suites, and Guest Rooms with private baths are available. Guests are particularly drawn to the fantasy Conservatory: a miniature Crystal Palace, housing lush foliage, handcarved stone sculptures, a fountain, 18th Century porcelains, ethnic artifacts and comfortable furniture. The Conservatory is framed by transparent walls and a glass ceiling from which is suspended jeweled and stained-glass hand-crafted Middle-Eastern and Indian lanterns -- for an exotic night-time magic not experienced elsewhere. Dempsey Manor is set within the Historic Victorian Homes district and within walking distance of historic Downtown River Street shopping and dining, the Manistee Riverwalk, churches of various denominations, movie theaters, farmers' markets, charter boats, golf courses, the famous and recently restored Ramsdell Playhouse (an original 1903 Opera House), the Manistee Art Institute, fishing, hiking, bicycling, beach and recreational venues. Zillow gives Dempsey Manor its "Very Walkable" rating. Gourmet breakfasts at Dempsey Manor are a renown Manistee specialty. Each meal is prepared with locally raised fresh produce and ingredients, providing a dining experience to surpass our area's finest restaurants. TripAdvisor names Dempsey Manor as the area's #1 Bed and Breakfast Inn. TripAdvisor also gives Dempsey Manor its highest rating - five stars - for all categories: location, sleep quality, rooms, service, cleanliness and value. The Manor's warm staff and romantic setting attract guests who expect tranquility, service, and comforts uncommon elsewhere. This historic home is the noted James Dempsey Mansion, presently also restored as a House Museum, offering group tours all year round. We also host Teas for group celebrations.
