It's hard to define the Auberge du Cedre, it's neither a hotel nor a guest house, but rather a large, old family home with its many living rooms and bedrooms, its maze of stairs and refreshing corridors, its vast sun-drenched terraces and its lovely hundred-year-old gardens. At the restaurant, at week-ends, our chef, Vera, offers colourful, Mediterranean food that changes with the seasons, based on olive oil, delicately spiced and all home-made; there is a vegetarian menu, and more and more organic produce, too. There are three set menus, one of which changes each weekend, and a reasonably priced a la carte menu. The restaurant offering this menu is open every weekend on Friday evening, Saturday for lunch & dinner and on Sundays for lunch. On weekday lunchtimes, Monday to Friday, there is a choice of five tasty platters and home-made desserts for a quick, light meal. In the evening on weekdays, the restaurant is reserved for Auberge guests, with a daily home made three-course set menu (by reservation). A vegetarian menu is possible on prior notice. However you can enjoy our full wine list at any time.

A very personel and familiar athmosphere. The food served is good and so is the choice of vines. The environment is amazing and good for many activities from hiking, cycling to canoeing. When it s too hot, what happens in summer often, the park and the pool are good places to chill. If you want to see something different, use the bathing places at the rivers like the Herault or visit the surrounding small towns with their markets. The hotel offers many good and valuable advices for excursions

Don't stay if you want snap-your-fingers attention. Do stay if you are looking for an immersive experience, wonderful meals on the terrace, unfussy service and a team who care deeply about the building, the grounds and the needs of the guests. The ambience is one of cuisine, art, history and the Languedoc wine culture. The Auberge offers sunshine and shade, stone flags in the corridors, protection from the summer heat and a friendly international clientele.

We visited the restaurant at L'Auberge du Cedre for lunch. The views are beautiful, the classic French food is delicious, flowers bloom everywhere, large contemporary sculptures are delightful. The service was a little slow, but the servers were friendly. We would definitely return.

L'Auberge du Cedre was a lucky find - a beautiful house, lovely rooms and food, and a very calm atmosphere in a superb location with easy access from Montpellier Airport (with first-class instructions!) surrounded by lovely scenery, and within easy reach of lovely towns such as Anduze.
