I hate to give this place a negative review. I think that it could be a grand and historic place to stay if redone appropriately. Although the elderly owners are nice, the place is shabby, perhaps done when shabby chic was in vogue, now just shabby and not kept up. Old, stained and torn linens, curtains (one was even placed... Read all reviews before booking but none of these are representative of what we found for our two day stay. Even though the owners were pleasant nothing about the room was. First room, stifling, since no one cooled the room in advance of arrival. That room was small, not very clean and everything about it was old and worn. Spots... More

A Pit - Room and bath was filthy. Dirty, old towels. Afraid I would catch something. Owners need to sell this place and the building needs gutting and refurbishing. Old lady who runs place with her husband is nice enough, but I do not feel they should be taking money from people. I was so depressed staying here. We travel... More

My husband and I celebrated our 6th year wedding anniversary at the Valentine Lodge and we were not disappointed. It's a nice home in a great location--not far from the action. Ms. Margret's personal artistic touches are also very impressive; you can catch a glimpse of her unique artwork all throughout the home. One thing that I thought was really... More

This was our first experience in a B&B and we were pleasantly suprised by the Valentine Lodge. The grounds were well kept as well the building. Our room was bright, clean and full of amenities. The art work and the little touches made it a pleasant experience. We enjoyed the screened in veranda on the second floor for breakfast and... More

Stayed with my elderly mom and my sister in the Elizabeth Room -- hard to find a B&B that will accommodate this kind of group. So happy to have found them. We loved the quiet location a few minutes from Lake Michigan, but only 10 minutes from Saugatuck and Oval Beach. Even closer to Douglas, which is really a cute... More

We have stayed here two times now, the 1st time a room w/share bath, was great on 3rd floor, this time a room w/bath on 2nd floor. This old home with large porches, lots of sitting areas and peaceful property is what a B&B should be. The owners are gracious inn keepers and the entire stay is always relaxing and... More

The fact that we keep returning time after time tells us that we are at home at the Valentine Lodge. We recommend it only if you want a peaceful night's sleep, surrounded by charming, artistic paintings done by Margaret, the B and B's delightful owner. There are large, beautifully arranged bouquets of hydrangeas wherever you look along with interesting handmade... More

...not too far from Chicago. I have been going to this beautiful B&B for 40 years now, and I look forward to the trip every year. The property and gardens are simply gorgeous, and the owners are kind, interesting, personable, and truly make each stay a wonderful experience. It is a very relaxing setting with delicious homemade breakfasts, minutes from... More

This was my third (or fourth?) trip to Saugatuck and I loved staying at the Valentine Lodge, it's my new favorite! I needed some R&R as a break from the busy Chicago life and I sure got it in the beautiful Valentine Lodge. The room was very clean and felt like home (though much nicer than my apartment!), and the... More
