I recently took my wife here for her 50th birthday, as a treat. we stayed for 3 nights and found the hotel and accommodation excellent. The restaurant food was fantastic and the breakfast was more than generous being buffet style. Due to my intolerance of bread afternoon teas can be bothersome. They went out of their way to accommodate me and made me wraps instead of the butties. The rest of the cakes etc was fab too.
My only criticism of this place is its a rabbit warren full of badly signposted corridors.

I booked 2 rooms here using a Groupon deal, it was to celebrate my mums 82nd birthday. It included a bottle of wine per room and 3 course dinner.
We arrived early and were able to get our rooms straight away which was great, until we walked into the rooms. Very old fashioned, dirty carpets, broken heat/ air con control, lights missing, chair back ripped and hanging off. The bed base was stained and in one of the bathrooms the water for the shower couldn’t be turn off.
The bedding and towels were clean and fresh, the bed was comfortable.
We then went out for the day and returned about 5pm. When we checked in, we requested the wine be in the rooms on our return and I had order a ‘birthday plate’ for my mum. Neither had been put in the rooms. Recieved them after a phone call.
While we were waiting, a awful noise started up outside our rooms. Asked the room service person what it was, when he brought the wine, he didn’t know. I got a call from reception saying it was the grill fans in the kitchen, so we had a couple of hours of this noise before we went for our meal, no chance of a rest.
Arrived in restaurant which was very nice, met by lovely staff, given a nice table. They had given us a bottle of Proseccoas as a way of saying sorry for the room.
The meal was lovely, very tasty and well presented, thoroughly enjoyed it.
We didn’t get much sleep because of the floor boards in the corridor, we kept thinking someone was in the room, very noisy and creaky.
If it wasn’t for the state of the rooms, the noise from the fans & floor boards, the stay would have been perfect as the rest of the hotel is lovely and the staff are a credit to the owners.
We paid £115 per room and it was the same price for a refurbished room which I thought was totally unfair. I was told it was ‘luck of the draw’ what room you got!!!!

We stayed here for two night we had breakfast and dinner on both day included. The food was lovely and a good choice. Staff couldn’t do enough for you very friendly. The bathroom needs some tlc but there was a lot of decorating going on around the hotel so looks like this could be getting sorted. Really enjoyed our stay and would love to visit again

We booked a two night stay at the hotel.
The location is very pleasant.
The hotel’s entrance is imposing but unfortunately after that the hotel is in need of an extensive refurbishment.
Check in was slow as was the check out.
Room 214 booked as twin was not truly that and the room is tired.
Damp stains on side of window and the bathroom again dated.
The floor creaks all over.
Restaurant food first night was very good and served by pleasant staff.
The following night was a complete contrast due to a large party accommodated in a separate room had the staff stretched and service was slow and disappointing.
Breakfast is buffet style and I am afraid congealed fried eggs and dried up bacon are unacceptable.
The second morning our request for poached eggs was dealt with in a friendly and efficient way.
Surely the way forward when the staff are around anyway.
Thank Chris D

As a mobility chalanged person I only have two negative comments
SIGNAGE - not very clear where to park so would advise to park at front of hotel where the disable parking is
There are a lot of steps to get to the spa area so if you difficulty or cannot walk this is not the spa break for you
Beatiful hotel, looks a little tired in places but are going through a refurb of all areas so bear in mind - this is a grade 1 building built in the 1400's - It will be amazing once complete.
We stayed in room 211 - perfect as also had a seeting area.
the food was amazing -
the courtyard had a singer so added to our enjoyment.
i have to give special thanks to derek the duty manager who went above and beyond to cater to all our need and also Julti the restraunt manager - a beautiful hotel, made amazing by thier attentive staff.
