Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Very well run establishment with all the necessary protocols in place for a safe stay. The evening meal and breakfast are top notch. Free parking on site was also very welcome. The site is ideal for trips to Ely or Cambridge. Friendly staff and great beer.

Well, what can I say, I went to the anchor for Christmas Day lunch. I can honestly say it was one of the best Christmas lunches I ever have had. You know it’s good when your 10 year old eats all of his vegetables. The atmosphere was like sitting at home with your family. Definitely booking for next year. Thank you, The anchor. Brilliant.

Went to the Anchor for a Christmas party night. The welcome and atmosphere was very warm. Christmas Decorations made it very festive. The food was excellent, we are big eaters and could not finish our plates. Staff attentive and polite, one staff member heard saying "we need to make your evening extra special". Great Live band. All in all a lovely Christmas Appetiser.

We had our daughters 21st birthday party on 27th December and we couldn't fault any of it. John the Gen Manager was extremely accommodating as we're all the staff who worked on the night - very attentive and nothing was ever any trouble. The food was of a very high standard too. All our guests were very complimentary and all said they would recommend the venue to others too. My daughter had a wonderful party, which was what it was all about. Totally recommend to anyone wishing to hold a function.

Excellent staff, so welcoming and helpful. A guy (sorry I didn't get any names) arranged early check-in for me on Friday, another guy running the bar on Friday evening made sure I got dinner (very good fish and chips), and the lady looking after breakfast on Saturday morning was super helpful. Room was fine, as expected really, but the staff went above and beyond to be helpful and friendly. Thank you.

Bed Bugs in Room 2. When reported. This was the response I got below. Pathetic. Since I can't reply on to your booking.com comment. I will reply on here with the evidence. "We are concerned with your response, and having stayed more than 1 night, that you have not mentioned to us any issues, however we take all incidents seriously, we have checked the room for issues, using an ultra violet and we cannot concur with your alleged findings. equally your results do not concur with the general reviews in question, how your comment will effect staff, comfort, facilaties, value for money when are reviews are in the high sector". Here is your evidence. Appalled by your casual response and lack of integrity. Check your records. I have stayed at the hotel a number of times for business trips

Our basic room was a little claustrophobic due to only having a high velux window. BUT it was still clean and very functional.. bed was ok once we found extra pillows!! .. Not keen on Having to ask reception for an iron either! We settled on eating in restaurant after walking round ely all day ( don’t bother with Uber .. cab was suitable £10 to cathedral) Food was ok we had Thai which was nice.. but would personally preferred something like chicken and chips etc .. breakfast In morning was good.. fresh full English with juice , coffee And tea options. Generally we enjoyed Ely ( cathedral very overpriced) pub VERY quiet in evening ( only US!). The anchor suited our requirements.. park up and get cab into Ely as parking is difficult!! … market was great.. 3 at 3 was great .. we would definitely return… all staff at the anchor were pleasant and helpful.. Thank you to all the staff for sealing our future in hopefully retiring to this delightful and accessible destination .. We wish the anchor well for the future..and thank you all !!

Having had a lovely meal in the Summer we chose to return for my Dad’s Birthday for Sunday Lunch. We were the first table in at 12 noon. The menu was basic. My Mum and Dad had a roast. My Son’s had a chicken burger and my husband and I had the Lasagne. Nobody ate much. Lasagne was caked in cheese. Garlic bread was cold and layered with garlic butter and I salad arrived as advertised. 3 of us ordered dessert which we decided on having rhubarb and ginger crumble. There was no mention of nuts but it was caked in seedy type nuts. It was bland and no sign of any ginger. Card machine wouldn’t work as WiFi was rubbish. On the whole we won’t return and it put a dampener on the occasion.
