I don’t know where to begin. I had the most incredible stay at this castle in the heart of Tuscany. To drive up the hill and arrive at the castle and being greeted by the friendly staff was just the beginning. When you go in the stone steps lead to the small lobby where you’re

Absolutely beautiful resort with amazing breath taking views and spa amenities. Unfortunately my fiance and I visited the hotel during the worst day of the hurricane on the last weekend in October 2018. The hurricane was so extreme that it caused a power outage across all of

Dear Mr NYC_AMY89, thank you for your review, in October there has been a real unique and unusual Hurricane, but the only discomfort we encountered was a temporary black out which lasted "only" 2 hours. All the Guests who were having Dinner during the Blackout were treated on a Complimentary Basis, since when they entered the Restaurant it was perfectly functioning, and the Blackout caught them during their Dinner and we decided they could not be charged for something that they had not decided for. For those, like you, who decided to have Dinner despite being informed that our Kitchen could only offer cold plates, and could have determined to have dinner somewhere else among the several options available in the Area, when you actually decided to come anyway at our Restaurant and eat Cheese and cutlery and have our wine in the nice athmosphere of "only candle lights" as in the Middle Ages in a 1000 years old Castle, we considered that decision to be something you freely decided, and no reason for a total reimbursement as you indicated in your description. We are willing to prove our blackout duration with clear documentation of our Technicians. Despite that, we are happy you consider our Resort to be a beautiful location and since Hurrican never happened before, I would like to confirm I will be more than happy to ensure the complimentary drinks we are sorry we didn't offer to reduce your discomfort during your stay, and a perfect and pleasant stay in a future visit at Castello di Velona Resort. You are welcome to write to me directly at the following email: g.fabiani@castellodivelona.it We look forward to welcoming you at Castello di Velona Resort

My mother and I stayed at this hotel while on a hiking trip in Tuscany. What an AMAZING place! I can't say enough good things about it. it used to be an 11th century fortress, so it sits up on a mountain top, overlooking the val d'ombrone and the surrounding vineyards. our

The entire experience of staying at Castello di Velona was out of this world. As we approached the magnificent castle we were in awe, the driveway up and arrival experience is incredible. As we entered the building we were continually amazed. The views from atop the hill

Firstly, We did not check in. We showed up 11/24/18 and immediately heard a dog barking incessantly. We pointed that out to the staff and Massimo said, "I don't hear it." Then he proceeded to show us our room and of course it was right next door to the barking dog. He

Dear Mr Doug, good morning from sunny Tuscany. We are sorry you decided to leave the Hotel for the day you had booked. The presence of a dog in one of the Rooms generally is not a good reason to ask for a reimbursement, it is in fact something the Management has to solve and we would have been more than pleased to offer you an alternative in the various options available (despite the fact we were running high occupancy). For sure a solution is always possible if the Guest doesn't decide to leave the Resort, which is a respectable decision we cannot deny our Guests. We look forward to welcoming you in the future and we will make sure no dogs will be in your vicinity in our extensive Resort. Please accept my best regards Gianluca Fabiani General Manager

Oh save your trip and yourselves the heartache. Don’t stay here. The whole experience was just horrible. The poor staff is overworked. They look tired. The food at dinner is expensive and underwhelming. The room they stick you in is furnished with shoddy cheap materials. We wanted to leave early but since they convinced us to do a prepaid rate, we were trapped. Most miserable experience in ALL our 14 years of travelling to Italy.

Cooking classes yes. Winery tour no. Wine is not their thing but there are many wineries nearby, from 5 minutes by car to 45minutes. Go into Montalcino try some wines you like and then find the winery. Cantina di Ricci in Montepulciano is interesting. I believe you should rent a car if you are going to visit wine country. You can either pick it up in Rome and drive or take a train to Florence and then get a car there. If you are going to stay in Florence for a couple of days I would pick it up there once you are done with Florence. Do not have a car while in Florence. We had a great experience @ Velona and we traveled all over Tuscany with it as our base.
