Booked for the two of us for the Burns Night event last night and absolutely loved it.

After a welcoming prosecco the Smoked salmon starter was followed by piped-in haggis (we opted for veggie version) as is traditional, then Beef Wellington and (our choice) cheese & biscuits. A whisky toast was included as was a sorbet palate cleanser.

All the food was first rate and obviously made from quality ingredients but what impressed me the most was the quality of service. No-one was kept waiting, everyone seemed to get what they’d ordered. In all a master class of how to run an event.

Why only 4 stars? The mattress in our room seemed really firm and i slept poorly but that’s a personal thing i agree.

We enjoyed our stay in the area however The Chequers would not be our first choice again. The main reasons we would not want to stay are, very uncomfortable old mattress on bed, noisy front rooms right on the road. Small bedroom room and tired decor. Food overpriced at dinner compared to restaurants nearby such as the excellent Thai, Greek and Mediterranean restaurants in Buxton and Chesterfield.
Breakfast however was enjoyable. Cleanliness was average carpets not clean in room. wifi did not work reliably during our stay.
We appreciate COVID poses restrictions but given that we still would not stay again.

We booked ahead of time as we were staying in the area for the weekend. Process was pretty simple and easy.
We arrived to a COVID safe environment and was shown around the back to a nicely laid out seating area with umbrellas if needed and blankets.
Full English breakfast and Eggs Benedict were ordered which were very nice and nasty. Code and juices to wash it down with.
Overall very nice Saturday morning breakfast.
5 stars ✨✨✨✨✨

We visited here at around 6pm on a Sunday evening .

Sunday roast was displayed on the menu board stating Pork loin, duck fat roasts, mash, veg and Yorkshire pudding, which we ordered two of .

We were told that there was no longer meat available but the chef could offer us pork belly and Sunday roast accompaniments .
Given this, we continued with our order of two Sunday roasts.

When it arrived we were very disappointed. Pork belly was a very small portion, four small carrots, small portion of red cabbage, small portion of mash, NO Yorkshire or roast potatoes.

Although the meal tasted very nice, it really wasn’t worth the full price of £15 per meal . We will not be returning.

I was looking forward to seeing this place again having stopped once before, and unfortunately i was left disappointed, the rooms we had was both tired and in need of an-upgrade. stains on the bedcover why put it on? and black grout and worn out bathroom, the other room had a bathroom inside a cupboard so very small. the food was at best ok with a limited menue, we got BB and evening meal, wish i had not bothered, the meals limited in choice ranged from £15-£25 and starters from £7-£11, you get an allowance up to £25 so make sure you get a starter or a dessert because unlike most places you cannot use it towards your drinks, don't use it you loose it and for those prices you can do better a short drive away. Its not a bad place it has a great outside area and most of the staff we found to be very pleasant. the web site looks great but in reality its not as good and we have stopped in far better at this rate, average at best, shame has potential to be so much better.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us, although disappointed that you chose not to raise any issues you had with the owner who you spoke to on check out. We are sorry that you felt our rooms were not up to standard, howver, need to point out that the twin room you occupied was one of the ones that has been fully refurbished during the last lock down, with the first guests only staying in the new room in May - new carpets, curtains, tv, beds, decoration etc. Planned bathroom refurbishments planned for last year had to be postponed as we havent traded for such a long time. However, these are now sheduled in again for the end of this year. Included in your room rate was indeed an allowance of £25 per person towards dinner. We have never come across any hotel that would allow you to use this allowance towards drinks. Ourselves and our staff have tried so very hard to reopen the business under very difficult circumstances and so it is disappointing to us that with the exception of your room rate query, you chose not to mention any issues to us in person. We are sorry if your have gone away disappointed.

This was our second stay at The Chequers inn an we weren’t disappointed. We had room 4 and it was warm and comfortable in the cold February outdoor temperatures! We ate at the pub in the evening ( one of the main reasons for our return) and it was excellent. The home made pie is glorious and my partner had the wrapped cod with chorizo, both totally fabulous. The drought beers are crystal clear and very very good, very friendly hosts who are very welcoming. A short drive to Curbar Gap car park (or you can walk up hill from the pub) and you have spectacular views from Curbar and Froggatt edge. A 5 minute drive to Hassop Station and you are on the Monsal trail. A beautiful part of the world and an excellent place to stay, we will return.

Popped in on the off chance they had a table.
Had a truly delicious, freshly cooked Sunday lunch. You could tell it had not been microwaved, the beef was cooked to perfection and sliced thick.
Followed with a delicious homemade dessert too.
Excellent value for money.

The garden setting was so beautiful but we found the food slightly disappointing, particularly for the price. We had fish and chips and the lamb dish. The chips were slightly greasy but the homemade tartare sauce and fish were great. The lamb was also cooked really nicely, but the whole dish could have been hotter and had more veg, the mash was fine but nothing special. The pints are usually really good, however on this day they were flat. Lovely service though and we did enjoy our time here.

We stayed with friends at the Chequers Inn for a weekend in December when we visited Chatsworth House.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We were greeted warmly and shown to our room. We had opted for the room with B& B and evening meal deal.
It was bitterly cold that weekend and the Inn was so cosy and festive with the log burner and decorations. The evening meals were excellent with a good selection to choose from.
The staff were very friendly and attentive.
The breakfast was delicious with choice if cereals, porridge, freshfruit salad, full English breakfast or a fish option including smoked salmon, smoked haddock or kippers. Breakfast was an event in itself.
The rooms were comfortable although the bathroom was clean it was very tired with lose It little cold but we found an electric heater in the wardrobe when we was packing up to leave so that was our fault !

Hi. Sure you would be comfortable here. We can provide travel cot if needed. Should be noted that all our rooms are directly above the bar though, which may affect noise a little, but would not be terribly late.
