The pub was ok, nothing special but not a bad pint and the staff were lovely. I was in room 4. It certainly isn't 5, 4, 3 or even 2 star but it served a purpose. Super fast WIFI, the bed was two pushed together and you could feel where they met, I ended up sleeping on the duvet. The room wasn't the cleanest, these are basic standards and would've benefited from a lick of paint. It had an en suite which was unexpected but like the room, it wasn't very clean. I booked 3 nights but only stayed 2 and this is not a B&B, there was no breakfast, non offered, no buffet, nothing, not a problem if we know before we book, I could've paid £5 per night extra and had a breakfast elsewhere If the owner is reading this, please reinvest some money back into the place, it could be nicer than it is.....and don't forget the second B!

Well I lived in Whitworth (Whit'th to locals) 25 years ago. I returned with my fiancée to go exploring the beautiful Lancashire countryside. I suggested Sportsman's and wasn't disappointed. It was cheap enough and the decor and furnishings could probably do with an update but I think, at 42, I'm quite young for rooming there :-) Landlord and landlady are so nice....I'm a speedway fan and with their sign, being a weird artists interpretation of Belle Vue Manchester's Chris Morton in a Halifax Dukes race jacket with Hyde Road Manchester in the background, I was naturally intrigued...and never quite got to the bottom of it. Well the bed was clean and comfy...the breakfast was wholesome and tasty and the pub banter in the lounge was fun. If you want a nice place to stay with decent accommodation and decent breakfast and a bit if witty banter in the bar then this is best in area. I would have given it three stars but the owners push it to four. Take a step back in time to the nineties but a nice step.
