We offer bed and breakfast and a one-bed (twin) self catering holiday cottage. Our restaurant offers superb food, wines and ales in this traditional Northumberland village pub. If you enjoy good food at a reasonable price then the Pack Horse Inn is the place to eat. All the food is prepared fresh daily using the best locally sourced ingredients. There is no bought in pre-prepared food served at the Pack Horse, and consequently the menu changes almost on a daily basis to ensure the freshest most interesting seasonal food is always available.

Detailed Reviews
We stayed at the Pack Horse while attending a wedding in the locality - this was ideal; within easy walking distance of Ellingham Hall.
The welcome was warm; the staff were great and the manager worked fantastically hard at all times of the day.
Our double room room was simple but clean and comfortable - some minor repairs would help.
The only real criticism would be the entrance to the bedrooms, which is up a staircase adjacent to the kitchen. The smell of cooking and the heat isn’t the most welcoming start to a stay.
The tiny pub is busy so if you want an early night be prepared for a lot of background noise.
For £95 per night it wasn’t overly cheap but we paid for the convenient location in the centre of the pretty village and enjoyed an excellent breakfast with plenty of local produce, served in the pleasant dining area. The staff were lovely and very efficient, the real ale went down a treat and the wine wasn’t badly priced.

On arrival we're greeted by Emma the bubbly land lady and checked in the room was spotlessly clean and was very comfortable the bed especially 👌 The breakfast was hearty and well presented and extremely well cooked. The evening dinner menu was fantastic and we sampled quite a few dishes i can fully recommend it . The atmosphere is lovely and we were made very welcome by the locals and sampled a wide range of well stocked beers and wine ! Overall our 3 night stay was great and certainly recommend the place and its very well situated for the Beautiful piece Northumberland coast 👍 thanks Emma 😊

Good pub whilst on holiday in Northumberland. Good covid rules following all the guidelines been given.
Unfortunately they ran out of fillet steak by 7pm which was disappointing, but had the flat iron steak which was nice.
The starter which we asked for was bread and almonds but we got olives which we don't like..
Bread was nice.
Only real dissapointment was the apple crumble as they were catering apples from a tin, very bland and the crumble was burnt.
The staff were lovely but one particular lady who was serving us didn't have great costumer care as she was rushing about so much.
The manager was bossing around the staff by the end of the evening @9pm "I don't want to see any mess in any of the grooves". Quite aggressively speaking to the staff which was not called for at all.

We visit here regularly as there is always a friendly welcome and great atmosphere but ate here this evening for the first time since lockdown and the food was just amazing! Great menu with loads of choice and the service was brilliant to match. We felt really safe too with staff taking obvious care about new precautions, sanitiser available and clear signage around the venue. We can’t wait to come back!

We stayed here after looking for nearby accommodation for a wedding at Doxford Barns.
A taxi was £15 each way to the wedding venue which we didn't think was too bad!
I called up the week before to ask if we could check in a little bit early as the wedding was at 1:30pm and we needed to get into our glad rags before going. The staff couldn't have been any more helpful! The pub was closed at 12pm when we arrived but Emma(?) who lived close by was there within 2 minutes to give us keys and let us in.
The room was cosy, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom was great and the entire room was immaculately clean, what more could you ask for?!
Breakfast in the morning was delicious, proper bacon and proper sausages along with a choice of cereal and fruit juice.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend anyone this place to stay, especially if you are going to any nearby weddings!
Thank you for having us.

Lovely little village pub offering accommodation. The room we stayed in was very nice with coffee and tea making facilities, soft fluffy white towels and complimentary toiletries. The choice of breakfast was excellent and suited all tastes. It was delicious too and very filling. The restaurant was very popular and I would suggest booking. I would definitely recommend visiting here.

My wife and I spent a most enjoyable few days at The Packhorse Inn.
The pub maintained a traditional character and was well patronised by locals or by people who had travelled to dine in the restaurant.
The room, whilst compact, was very comfortable and had pleasant views from its double aspect windows.
We very much enjoyed both the cooked breakfasts and the evening meals. Drinks were reasonably priced with, for example, a bottle of wine to accompany our dinner costing about £15.
The only slight negatives were that the dinner menu seemed to shrink a little over our three nights stay, and similarly the choice of traditional beers reduced from two to one. These were, however, minor points which did not really detract from a very satisfactory experience.
Staff also deserve praise and we found all to be friendly and welcoming. Lingering covid related practices meant that our room was not serviced as it would have been in the past - hence the four rather than five star rating below.

We booked our room to visit the nearby Bamburgh castle and we were not disappointed. The host notified us on where to find the key if we checked in outside of the inn's opening times.
The room was bright and immaculately clean with good size towels, hairdryer, tea & coffee facilities and complementary shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Bedding was clean and the bed was so comfy.
We weren't aware we needed to book a table for dinner that evening but the host managed to get us a table. Yes it a bit pricey, however, produce is sourced locally and the food was delicious which we throughly enjoyed.
There is a wide choice for breakfast, after a week of cooked breakfast, eggs benedict was a welcome change.
I would highly recommend the Pack Horse Inn.

We had a wonderful time at this delightful little Inn.
We arrived on the day of the Queens funeral. The Inn was closed for business due to this extraordinary occasion but we were fully informed of how to access our room. We were also informed that there was no dinner available that particular evening & would have to make alternate arrangements. Breakfast was available the next morning and was excellent. Great staff.
We enjoyed eating at the Inn the next evening.
When we arrived, we noticed complimentary earplugs on the side cupboards! The second night was noisy because our room was directly above the Inn, but we did not use the ear plugs because we enjoyed listening to the happy chatter from downstairs.
Great base to explore the Alnwick and Bamburgh areas.

We’re just back from a 2 night stay. Rooms are basic but clean and comfortable. We were impressed with the mattress. We stayed in room 5 which is above the bar. Room 5 is spacious with a good size bathroom with a piping hot shower. The room was quite noisy on the Friday night but come 11pm was peacefully quiet and there must have been a different crowd in on the Saturday night as barely a sound could be heard.
We ate in the pub on our arrival and food was hearty though there are limited choices for us as vegetarians / pescatarians so we headed out for dinner on the Saturday night. Breakfast both days was filling and tasty and set us up well for a days walking. Plenty of toast and coffee refills and a good selection of breakfast options on offer.
The pub is in a great location not far off the A1 and 10 mins by car from Beadnell and some of the best beaches in the UK.
All the team were welcoming and friendly and I’d recommend this pub as a great little get away.

Holidaysnfun73 asked a question Jun 2021
Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom822 contributions120 helpful votesIs the B&B walking distance to Elingham Hall ? I have tried google but can’t find a definitive distance or walking route ?
I don't think so. It's pretty much in the middle of nowhere.
I am not the owner or have anything to do with this location therefore you should ask the owner, I did a review because I used this restaurant whilst in the area.
I am not the owner so I don’t know why the message is in my in box??
Hi John,
Thanks for the question.
I'm not sure what defects you are referring to but we did have the bedrooms fully decorated and re-carpeted in Sept 17 and the bathrooms gutted and refurbished.
Hope this helps!
