We only stayed one night at this B&B but enjoyed what we saw. Gerard and Alet met us and showed us around the room. The main plus for this B&B are the views (if you stay in the Elmien Room). We watched the whales dancing about in the sunset from our balcony with a lovely glass of wine. In the morning you can open the blind, lie back on the bed and just watch whales leaping about (depending when in the year....) We then had a very plesent breakfast before continuing out journey. The foot path walk at the rear of the property is worth a walk. Lovely views of the sea.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at De Kelders B&B. Gerhard and Alet were so nice and welcoming and shared useful information about the area. As soon as we arrived we saw about six southern right whales right in front of their place and shortly after one of the whales began breaching and put on quite a show. Our room was very clean and comfortable and we had a great view of their garden and the ocean. From the B&B we could access a trail that goes all along the coast and we were able to see so many whales. It was a beautiful and easy hike. Alet and Gerhard made us a delicious breakfast and shared their knowledge about the whales and birds in De Kelders. I wish we could have stayed for more than one night but I am so glad we decided to stay here instead of a place in Hermanus.

Great views, lots of whales passing by. Nice base to explore the area and avoid staying in Gansbaai. Reasonable prices, clean rooms and bathrooms. Shame we didn't have the chance to stay longer. Definitely recommended and would come back if I visited the area again.

The view is absolutely fantastic - you can watch whales from your room. The owners of the guest house, an elderly couple, is very caring and knows everything about whales and Gaansbai. This Guest house was the first one opended in this area 18 years ago. But nevertheless we felt the rooms as such have not met our expectations compared to the room rate.

We stayed there in November 2013. Our first trip to South Africa and not our last one. We arrived by car at the really steep street. We got a warm welcome and our hosts selected us a whale - that can be seen from the balcony. We got the separate apartment with a own, view. You just sit outside, listen to the ocean and watch whales. There is even a small trail to the coast - just 5 minutes walk with some benches, where you can sit and watch the sea and the whales, even listen to them. The hosts are lovely - giving you tips where to eat out for dinner, even phoning the restaurant to get a seat. Making a great breakfast with eggs and local products and fresh fruit. If we got another time to south africa we will sty there again.!

We stayed for two nights and had an amazing time absorbing the healing sounds of the ocean. Lots of birds to watch in the morning, with truly knowledgeable hosts Gerhard and Alet. Even in the off-whale season we did manage to spot a whale blowing far off in the sea. So we will definitely be back in whale season. This getaway was just what the doctor ordered! Many, many thanks for an awesome stay, warm hospitality, a memorable few days and the small subtleties that made a huge difference. See you soon, C+L

A beautiful situation overlooking Gans Baai with 2 rooms overlooking the bay one looking out at the mountains and a largest with its own deck out in front. The owners ,Gerhard and his wife Alet looked after us well and could not have been more helpful, offering to book shark diving(if that is what we wanted) to directing us to pre historic caves not far from them The views from the front garden are magnificent and the paths from the garden lead directly down to the sea

This small 4 bedroom B and B is run by the most charming couple whose local knowledge and obvious pleasure in looking after their guests added immeasurably to our three day stay. Its location is THE BEST in the whole of De Kelders and Gansbaai and from our bedroom, the small garden and the private cliff top paths we marvelled at seeing whales for the first time. All the facilities we needed were available and lunch and dinner recommendations proved faultless. We owe Gerhard and Alet a huge thank you for looking after us so well Cannot recommend this delightful place highly enough

We stayed here for 1 night on our 4 week trip in South Africa. The weather wasn't too great (very windy) so the boats for white shark diving did not go out. We still enjoyed our stay here b/c of the magnificent views from this B&B and the super close proximity to the ocean (it's literally right outside your door!). Gansbaai is a small town, located at the coast of SA. De Kelders is a very nice place to stay with exceptionally lovely hosts. We stayed in the Elmien room, which has a view of the ocean. The room wasn't very big, but definitely big enough for us. There is a comfy bed, a large closet for your clothes and a small desk. Bathroom was en-suite with a nice shower and all was very clean. The B&B sleeping area is separated from the hosts' living area. Breakfast and welcome takes place in the common area of their house where you'll have the most amazing view from a living room ever: a panorama window overlooking the ocean. We even saw some whales passing by! We made a short walk along the shore and the area is breath taking! But what makes this place most special are the wonderful hosts: Gerhard and Alet are two wonderful people who take excellent care of their guests. We had several nice talks with them about Gansbaai, SA, their house (which they build!) and the history of the region. They take great care of people, and serve a good breakfast (complete with fresh eggs and bacon baked by Gerhard) in the morning. Toast, coffee, tea, jams, ham, cheese, fruit, cereals, yoghurt: everything is there. The location is safe and it's a short driving distance from the few restaurants Gansbaai has (we recommend Rosemary's which has lovely food). The hospitality and views are so nice here, we will def be back! Rooms are very affordable too - overall a great bed and breakfast.

Staying with Gerhard and Alet is certainly a pleasure. Their local knowledge is great and they are so informative and helpful it saves a lot of time, particularly when they go out of their way to make bookings for boat-based whale watching and/or shark cage diving The location is absolutely superb and the views are simply stunning. The rooms are squeaky clean and more than comfortable. The breakfast is superb. As a tour company we'll continue to use them while in the area
