A charming French hotel with understated elegance, and a restaurant that is one of the best I have experienced.

We have dined at a number of Michelin restaurants in our city of San Francisco, and you look for unique and pleasurable food, excellent ambience, and top notch service. This place checks all the boxes. (It reminds me very much if the charming and well appointed places you will find in Napa Valley)

You dine on a patio overlooking the stunning views of the private gated grounds, and you feel at peace. The sun sets and the subtle patio lights come on, and the staff starts with a glass of champagne and a bottle of Châteauneuf-du-Pape we ordered, and they continue this elegant dance of serving our food and wine, where every detail and need receives attention.

There is not a stuffy vibe to be found - the staff was warm, hospitable and kind enough to bridge the gap between English and French (I speak some, but not enough). What a memorable experience! Oh, and if you happen to be coming via helicopter, they have a landing pad onsite.

It is rare that the actual experience of a hotel surpasses the expectations set by their web site, but that describes our experience here. This is a beautiful property -- great rooms, very comfortable and luxurious, nice (though limited) public spaces, uncrowded pool, and the setting is one of the most beautiful we've been to anywhere. The web site really doesn't do justice to the property. The food has also been excellent, both at breakfast and at dinner, though the dinner menu is limited, so for a stay of more than a few days you might plan to try other places some nights. The setting for dinner on the terrace is one of the most spectacular we've experienced anywhere in the world. And the service has been very friendly and responsive.

Highly recommended; we hope to return again some day soon!

We spent a few days at the Bastide de Moustiers in July 2020. We absolutely loved the place. We usually go to hotels like Aman, Belmond, or Four Seasons. Not at all the same kind of place. It is more "rustic" but you have all the necessary refinements. First of all, food is amazing. Having dinner on the terrace is really a nice experience that one is happy to repeat night after night as the menu evolves every day. The one star michelin is very well deserved. Breakfast is also great. You generally have it outside in another part of the hotel and can ask for many different things (not a buffet). We liked the pool. It is very peaceful and big enough to have a nice swim. Lastly our room was also nice. We had a small stone house for ourselves, adjacent to the garden and the bed was very comfortable. We rented the electric boat on the lake, which was a very nice experience. The chef had prepared lunch with delicious desserts for us. We also had half a bottle of wine to enjoy and the lake to enjoy. There are many things to do around the hotel. We will be back.

We stayed three nights and really enjoyed our visit but the service was average even if extremely friendly. We were disappointed by the lack of attention to details expected for this category of hotel. Not sure we will visit again.

The room was very nice decorated, with our own terrace.
The gardens from le bastide with all the herbs are wonderful.
Unfortunately we had a lot of flies in the room and it was difficult to get the right temperature.
The bathroom had a shower in the bath, which was n’t very comfortable while the bathroom was very big.
The beds were perfect.
All in all we had a pleasant stay.

We visited La Bastide De Moustiers during our 2 week travels thru Provence, what an experience!! We stayed at La Bastide on my birthday and was treated like a king! Great table in the front of the restaurant with incredible view, food was absolutely delicious and the wine was well paired with the meal. All the staff was kind, helpful and considerate. The room was beautiful. We will repeat the trip to Provence in the future and will for certain stay at La Bastide De Moustiers again!!

We had a wonderful stay at Bastide de Moustiers last September.
Food was excellent, room (Bastidon) was superb. We stayed 2 nights only but it could have been much longer as the area is really pleasant.
Only drawbacks was night service cancellation due to Covid-19 and laundry was also not possible which is a shame.

I am French-American. I know good food (see my review on l'Abbaye de la Celle). I had eaten at la Bastide 12 years ago with my husband. It was wonderful. I had always wanted to go back and stay there.
1) The food is poor (we ate there two nights in a row and both agreed)
2) The hotel rooms are TERRIBLE! Extremely small (we stayed in TWO different ones--"Amande" is barely ok and "Lavande" is a dump). Incidentally the pool is freezing (for the price it should be warmer).
The younger staff was nice enough but a girl at the front desk who came from Saumur was mean and wouldn't bother to look up twice the forecast for us. Worst of all, when we left and they saw us carry all our bags, nobody was there to smile at us or help us!
3) We spent 1000 euros for 2 nights and dinners for all this wonderful treatment. Another example of their cheapness: we didn't want to have a 5 course dinner each night. I just asked for a course less and they subtracted 4 euros! I don't really care about the money but I resent their attitude. They also could offer you tea anytime, especially when you're tired after a long trip or coming back from a hike, but no! (They counted absolutely everything.)
The town is beautiful, just go to a hotel where they will actually appreciate having you come stay, not just for your money. There are places like the Ostape Auberge (which is not run by Ducasse anymore but by wonderful people) where the staff are generous (they don't nickel and dime you) and attentive without being hypocritical.
I'm so glad we didn't stay there an extra night like we intended to. I was on a waiting list and they let us believe there was a chance when there was none because their policy is to charge you unless you cancel a whole week in advance. So of course nobody cancels and we were led to believe it was possible.
All in all a very bad experience. Go to Moustiers but not here and don't let yourself be influenced by the name Ducasse.

First of all, I would like to thank you for the time you have given us, and to share your comments with the entire team. Good things:
Warm welcome. Polite young staff. Very pretty bedroom with fine linen and comfortable bed. Well-appointed bathroom. All in excellent condition and spotlessly clean. Lovely view of the hills around Moustiers from the garden. The garden is handsome and the accomodation elegantly arranged between a few freestanding little 'cottages'.
Not so good things:
The local setting is surprisingly 'suburban' with houses nearby and visible from the garden.
The bedroom and bathroom were lovely - but worth 320 euros for one night, room-only price?
We were there (booked one night only) on a very warm late-May day but there was some rain. The swimming pool had been covered and the pool enclosure locked and it remained so. The (light & intermittent) rain also caused the hotel to close the bar/restaurant terrace tables, leaving a very small windowless indoor bar (seating maybe 8 people) as the only apparent space to sit other than our room. Venturing out to the little 'private' seating area outside our room, we were disappointed to be just a few yards from a very noisy mechanical 'thing' hidden in shrubbery (? the main air conditioning outlet for the hotel).
However, these niggles were insignificant compared to the dinner. We chose the 'menu de la Bastide' (68 euros per person + drinks). It was very dull and, in our opinion, not as good as ordinary suppers we cook at home. It included a starter of some scrambled egg with mushroom and a main course of a pork chop with some unripe peas. I had also, three weeks earlier, booked a fish/seafood main course for my partner (who does not eat meat). They confirmed by email this would not be a problem. On the night however she was offered "a plate of vegetables" for her main course. When I politely reminded the staff that the hotel had confirmed a fish main course I was told that "Monsieur Ducasse only serves country food at Moustiers, you should stay in a hotel on the coast if you want fish"......!!!!!
We chose not to stay for breakfast the following morning and instead checked out early and had excellent coffee, orange juice and croissants in a cafe in Moustiers, total 8 euros .......
In summary - pretty place, nice staff. Classy bedroom and bathroom. Very expensive. Apparently expect to have to remain in your room if there is any rain. Easily the most disappointing one-Michelin-star meal we have ever had (and not as good as many non-Michelin-star meals we have had in southern France).
And, a PS, I wrote a polite letter to M. Ducasse afterwards explaining our disappointment and asking what had gone wrong in the kitchen that night. Of course, the letter may have been lost in the postal system but 5 weeks later I have had no reply.

I have terminal cancer and my sister treated me to a trip of a lifetime to France. We had booked La Bastide months in advance and had emailed the chef twice as to my dietary requirements since I have special needs. They responded by stating that they would be more than happy to accomodate my needs...great. We had booked for 3 nights and arrived to be put into a room where there had been a fire in the fireplace a few nights before but apparently no one had bothered to air out the room. Due to my health we requested another room but were told they could not accomodate our request due to a full house..we figured we would see how the room faired after airing it out for a few hours and sleeping with the windows open. We went to dinner at which time I was served a bowl of steamed rice and steamed vegetables...are you kidding me (80Euros)?! We spoke to the chef after dinner to see if he could be more creative ( I have to eat Vegan these days but other 5star chateaux had been awesomely creative)...he replyed "I cannot compromise my kitchen or the style of Alain Ducasse"...they should have stated that before we had booked there! We went to our room after dinner and decided to book other lodgings in the Gorge the following day. Our sleep felt like we had been smoking cigarettes all night. The next day the staff groveled to keep us there but sorry Mr. Chef with major French attitude we were not going to spend 500 euros a night to be treated like crap. Overpriced and not a great place even prior to our treatment. This was my sister's 7th trip to France and even she was shocked by this awful customer service.

Easy 10 minute walk up to the hill town of Moustiers--but there is nothing up in the town that is at the same level --not that its mediocre in town, there's lots of solid options--it's just that the food at la bastide-is just on a whole other level--

Sorry, but I wasn't there in February. I can tell you that the roads were good roads and I can't imagine snow in the south of France, but maybe there is. I can tell you that the place is likely to be sleepy then, as it's a summer vacation area. We were there in May and it was heating up, temperature and tourist-wise. Really a wonderful area to hike and to sight-see. Fewer people there is probably a good thing, so brave the weather and go to La Bastide!
