This is a fantastic location for absolute silence and pure night skies. And, though, it is very close to Monsaraz and the Alqueva’s astonishing ‘big lake’ and its amenities. You should also take a good while for go looking for the megalithic sites – menhirs, dolmens, cromelechs in the middle of nothing, just agricultural land. The property Monte do Laranjal...

I had a wonderful time at Monte do Laranjal. I spent two nights there. I had just arrived in Portugal the day before and this was just what my boyfriend and I needed to start our trip. The resort itself is very well kept. The rooms are very cute and there are a lot of personal touches. The pool is...

Situated just below the pretty hillside village of Monseraz this Bed and Breakfast far exceeded our expectations. Lovely hosts, comfortable and spacious room with breakfast on the terrace overlooking the pool and Monseraz. Couldn't fault anything about this wonderful place set in the Alentejo countryside. An added bonus was the lake and the views of it and surrounding countryside from...

My husband and I could only stay for one night as this wonderful boutique bed and breakfast farmhouse, we wish we could have stayed and explored the area for longer! Our room was beautifully decorated, with traditional hand painted furniture. The village Monsaraz is close with some lovely restaurants and well worth a visit, especially at sunset. From the time...

This bed and breakfast is at a 2 minutes drive from the beautiful village of Monsaraz, which has awesome views over the surrounding landscape. At the breakfast table you can admire Monsaraz on top of the hill. The owners are very friendly and helpful. They respect the privacy of their guests. We were there for 2 days and had the...

If you are exploring this area of Alentejo, or just getting away from the city lights and noise, don't even look for hotels - consider Monte do Laranjal, a charming and homely bed-and-breakfast farmhouse, nested at the foothills of beautiful Monsaraz.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Monte do Laranjal is situated at the foothills of Monsaraz, a medieval town in the Alentejo region of Portugal near the border with Spain (16km from Reguengos de Monsaraz and a 40 minutes drive from Évora).Monte do Laranjal is an old farmhouse, which was used in the past for rearing sheep and cattle and for producing cheese. Though inactive until recently, its century-old buildings were restored by the present owners and converted into what is now a family house, with an area reserved for our guests. Come and stay at Monte do Laranjal, for a genuine experience of the Alentejo, with all the comfort and hospitality you are accustomed to.The shores of the Alqueva, the largest artificial lake in Europe, are a mere 800 metres away, allowing for unforgettable walks, boat rides, fishing and many other water activities. We also have a certified organic vegetable production, an orange grove and many fruit trees. “Since we are tall, we asked for a larger bed, and Astrid recommended a room with two twin beds next to one another. It was well worth the upgrade, we slept very comfortably. The room was also very comfortable with the air conditioning.”
